of course it is. a lot of ads are. i just saw one youtube for a shampoo bottle that fixes hair loss. if that worked, influencers wouldn't spend 4,000 dollars going to turkey to get a surgery when a shampoo bottle that costs 24 bucks magically grows your hair back. I think all ads ideally should be obsolete, that if you want to buy a product, you just research for it yourself online instead of being interrupted in the middle of a video with an ad for something you most likely won't get.

The reason Japan attacked Pearl Harbor is because the U.S., Britain and Netherlands launched an oil embargo on Japan in 1941 due to their actions in China. At that time Britain controlled Malaysia and the strait of malacca, the Dutch controlled Indonesia, and the US controlled the Philippines. As a result, Japan had no way to import oil from anywhere to propel their economy and war machine. The only two options for securing oil were attacking Russia, or attacking Indonesia.
Indonesia fit their broader vision of an Asia for Asians led by Japan, so they chose that option and preemptively struck out against the US to buy themselves time to conquer south east Asia (which they did)
Their hope was that the US would not commit to a total war with them over Pearl Harbor and they could secure their gains in South East Asia.

I recently started reading an article about Liberalism in Korea and there was a footnote that said
“Min Young-Hwan did not know that President Roosevelt had already made a secret pact with the Japanese that the United States would not interfere with Japan's control of Korea in exchange for Japan's acquiescence of the American control of the Philippines. Min committed suicide in 1905 when he could not prevent the treaty in which Japan took away the sovereignty of Korea.”
And I thought of this video. I hate that the US only turns a blind eye to something if it befits them. And I hate that I have to go out of my way to learn things like this. The history I learned is so sugarcoat it’s sickening.

Johnny I ask you as an Australian to fix this massive error in your map. At 3:33 you show the entirety of the South Eastern part of New Guinea as occupied by the Japanese, including Port Moresby!! This is incorrect! Australians, Papuans and American airmen fought tooth and nail to defend the Owen Stanley Range and the approach into Port Moresby along what was known as the Kokoda Trail - and importantly we didn't fail in this endeavour! It's a disservice to the sacrifice made here to present the map like this. What's even more insulting is that this error is still present even by 10:19 when you're talking about events in 1944 and 1945!! How do you think a good portion of the convoys were raided around Rabaul without the vital airfield in Port Moresby?! This video will be seen by so many people so I implore you to make the necessary changes, please. You have a duty when telling history to get it right, even if you're not specifically mentioning this campaign. If you're making a 'MAPPED' video the maps have to be at least correct. I apologise if I may seem rude, that is not my intention, I am just simply fed up with the history and sacrifice of nearly 10,000 brave men being ignored. Please make the changes Johnny. Accurate maps can be found on the Australian War Memorial Website or alternatively through Dudley McCarthy's official history which is free to access on the Australian War Memorial website.

It's amazing to see how the US and Japan, after a brutal war, have built such a strong relationship. It shows that reconciliation is possible, even after unimaginable suffering. It's also worth remembering the reconciliation between Germany and France. Even after a devastating war, they found a way to move forward together.
Thinking about the conflicts in the Middle East, it's clear that both Arabs, Palestinians, and Israelis need a similar path toward peace. We can learn from the past, like prioritizing common goals and building trust through dialogue, to help everyone move towards a more peaceful future.
The US-Japan relationship is a beacon of hope, but we must remember that lasting peace requires courage, perseverance, and a willingness to compromise from all sides.

    • @grubmg

I totally agree - but just let it sink in what the US had to do in order to get the Japanese people to reconcile since the Japanese were hell bent on continuing the war even at the expense of their own population. Cutting off supply chains, hundreds of thousands of civilian casualties and two nuked cities.
When the world remembers what it takes to get suicidal nations to reconcile it might allow Israel to actually win the war so that we can get there.

@@RealMikel It was more than just helping you economically, MacArthur rebuilt your whole society. MacArthur punished Japan for its past militarism and expansion by convening war crimes trials in Tokyo. At the same time, SCAP dismantled the Japanese Army and banned former military officers from taking roles of political leadership in the new government. In the economic field, SCAP introduced land reform, designed to benefit the majority tenant farmers and reduce the power of rich landowners, many of whom had advocated for war and supported Japanese expansionism in the 1930s. MacArthur also tried to break up the large Japanese business conglomerates, or zaibatsu, as part of the effort to transform the economy into a free market capitalist system. In 1947, Allied advisors essentially dictated a new constitution to Japan’s leaders. Some of the most profound changes in the document included downgrading the emperor’s status to that of a figurehead without political control and placing more power in the parliamentary system, promoting greater rights and privileges for women, and renouncing the right to wage war, which involved eliminating all non-defensive armed forces.

    • @johndoe9200
      @johndoe9200 5 місяців тому +3

@@RealMikel By late 1947 and early 1948, the emergence of an economic crisis in Japan alongside concerns about the spread of communism sparked a reconsideration of occupation policies. This period is sometimes called the “reverse course.” In this stage of the occupation, which lasted until 1950, the economic rehabilitation of Japan took center stage. SCAP became concerned that a weak Japanese economy would increase the influence of the domestic communist movement, and with a communist victory in China’s civil war increasingly likely, the future of East Asia appeared to be at stake. Occupation policies to address the weakening economy ranged from tax reforms to measures aimed at controlling inflation. However the most serious problem was the shortage of raw materials required to feed Japanese industries and markets for finished goods. The outbreak of the Korean War in 1950 provided SCAP with just the opportunity it needed to address this problem, prompting some occupation officials to suggest that, “Korea came along and saved us.” After the UN entered the Korean War, Japan became the principal supply depot for UN forces. The conflict also placed Japan firmly within the confines of the U.S. defense perimeter in Asia, assuring the Japanese leadership that whatever the state of its military, no real threat would be made against Japanese soil.

On July 23, 1941, five months prior to Pearl Harbor, President Roosevelt put his signature on an operation plan for the firebombing of Tokyo and Osaka via American volunteers armed with American weapons stationed in China and was in the process of moving assets to China apparently for this end when Pearl Harbor occured. You can find the document at the national archives. Also there's the Mccollum memorandum which lists various aggressive actions to be taken against Japan in line with point 6 of the memorandum: "It is to the interest of the United States to eliminate Japan's threat in the Pacific at the earliest opportunity by taking prompt and aggressive action against Japan" before stating plainly "If by these means Japan could be led to commit an overt act of war, so much the better. This lines up with other documents, leaked (or were declassified, idr) a few decades back. Military Intelligence and Roosevelt knew about plans from Japan to make big hits on some 4-5 US territories in their range (including bases somewhere around the Philippines, other islands far south of mainland Japan, AND Pearl Harbor. They wanted a reason to get us more invested in the war, and practically slapped a target on the base in Hawaii. This was chosen as it wasn't too far off to send support as other US bases were, and was 'close to home' enough to get the backing of American citizens to start retaliatory attacks against Japan and bring us into the war officially. Battles went on for years, elections happened, Roosevelt left, and Truman was brought in. Being unawares of the machinations of the previous administration, Truman was left being urged by other politicians and military personnel leftover from Roosevelt to sign the papers that launched the planes to Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
That said, despite the planetary chess game, these actions did help lead to the ending of the war. And, arguably, saved countless more lives than those that would have been lost in an invasion, or those lost to the bombs, had the war waged on for months and months longer. It *was* inhumane, it was dirty, the US citizens were played just so we could 'test' out new toys out on people... But, it was effective. As Oppenheimer said: "I am become Death". Nations were appalled at the devastation wrought by such weapons. Prompted by this, and his soldiers will to keep fighting despite it, Emperor Hirohito later signed papers of surrender, to save more of his people needlessly dying, helping bring in a close to the war.

He used to tell stories on how fearless the Japanese were, they respected eachother, but because of the wrong ideology of the time most of the Japanese soldiers didn't treat the locals faily. If they treated better than the British, the entire country would fight for the Empire of Japan. But, for a time they did, until in 1945 when General Aung San switched sides to the Allies. My grandfather fought the British and within a few years he was fighting the Japanese. If Japan had won we would have our monarchy back, a Burmese Prince was already arranged, but since Japan lost the war and Myanmar got out of the Commonwealth of Nations, the British made sure we plunged into a Civil War without end. Even more interesting was the people who fought for Allies consider Japanese to be an Asian and thus didn't wanted to fight and also consider World War 2 to an issue away from Indian affairs and thus didn't wanted to participate in it but once they realized that Japanese were brutal. They changed their mind. The opposition to Indian taking part in World War 2 stopped.

They got the resources from the Dutch East Indies, Philippines, China, Korea, Malaya etc. Those islands (Solomons, Wake, Guam, Caroline Islands etc) were defensive outposts to expand the perimeter they could detect incoming attacks to the South China Sea, Philippines Sea, Java Sea etc. which were where the trade lines bringing all the oil, rubber, tin, steel, food etc back to the home islands were. There's no resources on any of those tiny atolls. They conquered those colonies after WW1 and pre-WW2 to build up that defensive perimeter. They were initially getting resources from China/Korea/Manchuria, but that stalled. Then we cut them off from the resources. So, they had no choice but to invade the places with actual resources. Sorry the replies to you are so inane, so far. I will only add that the Soviets did not invade the Japanese home islands, nor did they need to consider a naval option. We need not examine all the diplomatic and military records of the time; if we just looked at this Johnny Harris video we're all supposedly watching, we would see that Japan held large swaths of territory on continental Asia right next to the USSR. The Soviets did invade, but they just took Manchuria and thereby "getting to Japan."
To "yes and" your actual point, it was not just that the USSR invaded Japan, but up until that point, Japan thought the USSR could help negotiate a conditional surrender as a neutral 3rd party.

    • @pdpgkeeper
      @pdpgkeeper 5 місяців тому +1

If you looked at Soviets’ actions and motives 2-3 decades following their campaign against the Nazis, they were clearly about to go after Japan’s territories beyond what you might be expecting. Japan can’t survive if they are cut off from resources outside of their current borders. Bombing alone would’ve taken longer for them to surrender. Again, crazy to fathom, but just look at the casualty rate when they were not responding to the allied forces’ demands for surrender.

I feel like there needs to be more context on some of the points he makes. first a huge reason why America ceased trade with Japan was in large part due to the awful war crimes that the Japanese were inflicting upon the Chinese. So the embargo was extremely justified.
Second the attacks on Pearl Harbor was mainly the cripple the U.S fleet station there was in the hopes that the U.S would just roll over and accept the changes when the Japanese take the Philippians and other European colonies. Also the attacks weren’t as bad as many people thought a main contributor to this was the fact the attacks took place on a Sunday when the ships were in sallow waters. So many sailors were off base at the time of the attacks which really limited the number of casualties. In addition many of the ships that were damaged would be refitted and repaired and would take place in future battles. Also the submarine base and major naval fuel and repair depots wasn’t damaged. So while it did cause damage it wasn’t to the level that was hoped for.
Third the battle of midway was not really to take the island from the Americans as it was a little to far for Japans liking and not really seen as part of their sphere of influence rather it was to destroy the American carriers that were proving vital to American victories over in the Pacific.
Fourth the Japanese were still very much in the mindset that battleships were the way of naval warfare as they were thinking of past victories in the Russo-Japanese war. So the thought that carries were going to be the way of the future didn’t fully set in quite yet and even if it did Japan mainly built its navy with that battleship mindset.
Finally the other reason why the Americans used the atomic bomb was that the Americans estimated that an invasion of Japan would cost anywhere from 250,000 to a million American lives and as many if not more Japanese lives. Also Emperor Hirohito delivered two different versions of his surrender speech the first for the home front that detailed the atomic bombs and not mentioning the Soviet invasion of Manchuria and other to the soldiers which mentioned the Soviet invasion of Manchuria with the bombs not being mentioned.
(Note: in the interest of trying to keep this somewhat short there are some details I didn’t fully go into. If you have questions go to Potential History and watch the Pacific series it is a really good 4 part series that everything I said in more detail.

These are the words spoken by a Japanese at the witness interrogation of the Tokyo Trial conducted after the Pacific War.
"Who do you think is the most sinful war criminal in this war?"
"That's the President of the United States, Truman."
"Read this. It says like this. " If the Japanese people cooperate in the war with the army after the gun, they will bomb all of them, regardless of old people, children, and women. So pray for peace and create the momentum of the anti-war system." It says.
This was issued under the name of President Truman. What is this? Under international law, it killed hundreds of thousands of non-combatants despite the provision that non-combatants should not be bombed. It's a violation of international law."
"That's right. Can you say that it is justice by killing innocent civilians with the atomic bomb and killing 200,000 people? Truman is the biggest war criminal."
"There will be a part that the Japanese army did bad things during the war. However, it is very possible to infringe on combatants due to the excitement of the battlefield. Of course, it is an abominable act, but these accidental incidents and planned massacres are fundamentally different."
"Truman's act is the first-class act of war crimes. No matter how the victorious country today detests this, it cannot be exempt from receiving a historical judgment by a fair third party and future human beings. The president of a country dares to commit barbaric acts, and there is nothing to be ashamed of. It's embarrassing that we fought against such a person."
At that time, the prosecutor said.
    " No, no, that's just a threat, isn't it?"
At that time, he said this.
"What are you talking about? Threat? It's not a threat. Actually, I would have done it according to this leaflet. What did you do to Hiroshima? What did you drop in Nagasaki? You did more than what's written in this leaflet. Therefore, Truman's act is a first-class war crime."
"Why don't you judge me as a war criminal? This war was started by the Manchurian Incident. I'm the one who caused the Manchurian Incident. Why don't you judge me?
There's more. It seems that the United States is trying to go back to Japan's war responsibility for a long time, but when are you going to go back?"
In response, the presiding judge replied like this.
"It's all the wars of aggression that Japan conducted. If possible, I would like to go back to the Sino-Japanese War and the Russo-Japanese War."
In response to the presiding judge's words, he replied like this.
"Oh, then bring Perry! Japan was closed to the country. It would be Perry who forced it to open the country!"
This court record will be destroyed later and will not be engraved in the history of the United States or the history of the world.
However, in the very honest wording, no one knows that the presiding judge calls him "general" as the trial progresses.
From here, it's my personal opinion,
First of all, Western countries such as the United States and the United Kingdom are blamed for coming, and we are the only ones who don't understand the meaning of being judged. France still calls Japan Jap.
What Western powers have done is "exploitation" and "incarnation of evil". I think the Japanese people in the past who imitated it are also crazy, but as far as I am concerned, I was only in line with the "opportunism" of Western countries, and I also have an opinion. The current Japanese government is like an American dog. I haven't forgotten Joe Biden's gaffe. Use Japan as a communist breakwater and move the country as convenient for the Japan-U.S. Joint Committee. This shouldn't happen. Japan is not "independent" yet. It's still an American puppet. Asian discrimination has not disappeared. Even if you live in Japan, black people put their middle finger on us and say, "Fuck Japanese, die!" He rants and doesn't follow the rules. I know that not everyone is like this, but "When you enter the township, follow the township." It's also the case of sexual assault conducted by the U.S. military in Okinawa. Everything is an action and a word or action because you look down on us.
Don't lick Japan. Everything is triggered by you, Western countries. If you're going to criticize, do it. But it's the same as justifying the history of our country.
If you still say, "We didn't do that," return all the civilian lives that died in the large-scale bombing.
If you can't do it, reconsider your past and think about it.
You don't know why I'm going so far. Because I've only experienced "winning".
If you get carried away, don't forget that your feet will be swayed.
If you notice the sins of your own country, there should be no discrimination. Well, there's discrimination because you guys haven't noticed.
I'm not picking a fight. I just want you to notice.
If we call the enemy evil, whether we are not doing it or not. And what does the beaten side think? The most important thing is to think about yourself.
After thoroughly examining the information, I want you to think again about whether what you did was really right and what the mistakes of the past were.

Important dynamic to also remember in this war was that the US up to the A bomb had only been fighting the Navy of Imperial Japan. The army was still in China, conquering more and more of it. When the offer to surrender was first sent out, the Imperial Japanese army was like why, we're winning! The inability to control their army and navy is one of the main reasons why surrender with the Imperial Japanese was so gosh darn difficult.
