Your best solution is actually having a good feral cat and skunk population in your area. Skunks and cats on their own will fight racoons- but they will team up on racoons. There was a documentary years ago in a town where people were mad that there were 'too many' feral cats and skunks around and they couldn't figure out why one didn't take care of the other. So they set up tons of cameras. Come find out the kits(baby skunks) and kittens would play together and the cats just felt they were stinky kitties. Eventually the town relocated alot of cats and skunks and then they got a huge boom of racoons that caused more problems then the cats and skunks being around.

@@exdus235 they never bother us, we find them entertaining, and we don't use the deck so we've just let them be so far. I have a feeling they'll probably move on when we get the apple trees taken down in the spring.
There's a raccoon that LOVES my garden. He brings various different girlfriends around, treats them to all the almost-ripe fruit or vegetables that my mom plants, then does ~natural~ things directly outside the window that faces my dad's reading chair. Whenever my dad tries to scare him off, his girlfriend ends up fleeing, but he just makes eye contact with my dad, hisses, then starts licking his nether regions. Also, when he steals our fruits and veggies, he never eats the entire things. He only ever takes one bite out of every single one, ensuring we can't have any even if it means he's wasting them. The only reason we keep him around (although the otters are trying real hard to get rid of him) is because he likes to eat the goose eggs that are laid in our garden, and we have decided that he's better than the geese, since they keep killing the ducks that try to live there too.
