Maybe it's just nostalgia talking, but i really think that these small sets capture the essence of lego more than all the £200+ sets 'made for adults'. There's something nice about getting a small £10-£20 set with decent minifigures and builds, and sometimes animals. I particularly like the small city and minecraft sets which have come out over the past 1-2 years; the cheapest minecraft sets are always super cute and great value, and you can get some really neat animals in the cheap set like seals (60376) , red panda (60424) etc in the city sets. It's important we don't forget small sets, especially as most of the social media coverage is for the huge sets which a lot of people can't afford/don't have space for.
You are quite right! It's those small and affordable sets are making Lego what it was and what it should be: A Toy for children! For ordinary peoples Children!
I think the Creator 3-in-1 is my favorite Lego series, it just feels so quintessentially "Lego" to me, to have an assortment of pieces and instructions on how you can use them to build different things. I wish more channels covered them, or even gave ideas on how else to build with them!

THe part was mostly used for this one set, and it's not really core to the build or anything.) so they removed them and added two parts to the bone build to compensate. however THEY DIDN"T CHANGE THE BOX ORINSTRUCTION BOOKKLET PICTURES. This can be clearly seen at 7:26 by comparing the top of the t-rex's hind legs in the box and built model. I bought a copy of the set, thinking i could build the bonsai rebrickable model, and discovered that the box had lied to me (fortunately i had two of that part in my spares, having previously bought the set.) The lego 3 in 1 T-rex is all right, but I really like their jurrasic park baby Ankylosaurus & baby T-rex sets. (they are 10 EUR more expensive though.)

The fact that they STILL haven't updated the box photo on the Mighty Dinosaurs set irks me. (Look at the connection between the legs and the body on the T-Rex - the original build has Hero Factory arm/leg extenders there, which increase the stiffness of the joint and thus can hold more poses, plus not having them leaves the Triceratops build with short hind legs. I bought the parts separately so I can match the original.)
I enjoyed this video, but one thing stands out to me..... The theme is how affordable these sets are, but you don't mention the price of any of the sets! Are they $30? $40?
They're in the $10-$35 range. Dobby is the most expensive at $35. Size of the box is a decent indicator here. If it looks like a stocking stuffer, it's likely $10. Small gifts are $20ish. Biggest boxes here are $30ish.
As far as I've seen, the US$ retail price is usually the same number as the Euro retail price here in the Netherlands/Europe (so a $20 LEGO-set in US typically costs €20 here in Netherlands). Not always, but often it's a good indicator. The small sets in this video (Policecar, Electric Sportscar, Unicorn, Space Shuttle, Spiderman vs Miss Ock/Venom Ock, Boba Fett microfighter) are all €10 in retail (in some shops even €9 , and with a discount campaign even less than that). Mandolarian N-1 microfighter and the Dinosaur set are each up to €15 , Burger Truck and Spidey/Hulk/Rhino Showdown are each up to €20 , Dobby and Super Mario Bowser Car are each up to €30 , and the Obi Wan Jedi Starfighter ranges between €27 and €35 in retail. There are many more cool and playful LEGO sets in these price ranges, this video is just a (very limited) selection. I hope that helps.
I’d be excited if you made a skillshare course or some more youtube videos about how to make some creative LEGO models, like you used to in the past. This is what made your channel unique and different from other LEGO reviewers in my opinion. 😊
Fair point: people often misemploy that term. That said, Lego quality has markedly diminished in recent years, with the brittle brown bricks, missing pieces, color inconsistency, etc. It's not what it once was :(

I was going through your videos looking for a suggestion and decided to comment on the most recent video to ask. I have a toddler who will be able to move out of Duplo soon and I want to build a collection of pieces. I have been telling my wife for years that we should be picking up the large mixed boxes when on sale at Costco, but we have only been buying sets(NES, Castle, SW, etc.) and the ocassional filling up of a large tub whenever I make a trip to a store, usually focusing on weird and unique pieces. But I want to have the ability to start "building" building, with the variety in both color and shapes, to create more advanced pieces, to utilize a large assortment of different utility pieces to achieve creative results, things I see being built by pros. I don't have an issue buying lego, but dumping large sums at once is not really going to happen, so I wanted to like break it down and chip away at it all over time. BUT, I want to start focusing in on what builders to consider to be the primary must-haves when it comes to building essentials and then expand from there. And then after that, the more unique but frequently used building pieces that allow for more advanced effects. I see people with rows and rows of sorters, seperated by color and organized in specific ways, but there's still a limited variety of pieces for each of those colors. It's like.....what are those 30 or so different pieces that are typically repeated and kept in stock when having that? The number of different pieces LEGO offers is mind blowing. It's also about where to buy these pieces and for the best price for people buying lego for that purpose.
When I was a kid I remember buying a Lego Creator 3 in 1 set that featured different planes. I built the main one, but then I really wanted to try out another model. This of course meant taking it apart and then starting over, right? WRONG. I went back to the store and bought the exact same set just to build the other model. Biggest waste of money ever
Nice video! I am currently working on an Animal Crossing full island and the base sets are almost all very cheap but really fun to play with... have you ever tried them? What is your opinion on that?
I had got the Boba Fett one a while back as it was 20% off. The Dobby would fit well with Baby Groot and "Baby Yoda" (Grogu) since there about the same height. and there's Venomised Baby Groot so how hard would it be to do that to Dobby or "Baby Yoda"?
I feel like you kinda missed some great cheap sets (and unique things from these sets too) from themes you didn't cover, like Ninjago, Minecraft, Sonic or Animal Crossing.
Also Technic. Tipper truck and buggy are great value builds. The buggy is insane. You get steering, suspension and even small model of engine. It doesn't have a lot of parts, but it's just surprisingly complex and detailed, while being very tough. Also stickers survive being dunked into water. That's probably not very relevant, but it might even survive a kid bringing it to beach or something.
People: "Lego sets are too expensive." Same people: "Let's waste countless hours watching UA-cam videos and complaining about prices instead of using this time to be making money."
@@TiagoCatarino Dobby was the most expensive at $35. From there it scaled down into the $20 and $10 range. These are also sets likely to be seen at odd stores during the holidays, so the prices and savings may vary.
Yooo love your videos ❤
Great video
People: "Lego sets are too expensive."
Same people: "Let's waste countless hours watching UA-cam videos and complaining about prices instead of using this time to be making money."
Lego camera is $15 and actually has good play value for kids who really like taking pretend pictures.
I think for the way your review style is, you could easily do a video like 15 LEGO sets for $15 or less in 15 minutes
I might do a video of all the affordable January 1st sets!
Great video idea but I wish you had actually told us the price of the different sets
Sorry. Most are $10 or lower though! If it helps
@@TiagoCatarino Dobby was the most expensive at $35. From there it scaled down into the $20 and $10 range.
These are also sets likely to be seen at odd stores during the holidays, so the prices and savings may vary. These are impulse buys, so stores may mark them up a bit, knowing that customers aren't going to compare prices while in the checkout.
@TiagoCatarino can you put timestamps in the description?
also, i’ve gotten the lego titanic a few days ago, and have finished the first box. it is amazing so far!
Aunt Marge’s sock???
I just wanna come back and say: GREAT change from cheap to affordable on the title.
Cheap = poorly created product
Affordable = low dollar amount, but well built
lol, don't think the video title change went unnoticed
Part of the UA-camr life! Changing titles and thumbnails to see what works best!
Excuse me mister expensive sets...
INSANE vid
crazy
DINO!
Why don't you work for lego anymore ?
Todos estes conjuntos lego tao no pingo doce a 50% este fim de semana
Top!!
I see you've changed the title from "cheap" to "affordable" because "affordable" means "it's expensive but you'll be fine"
Amazing video
No kid of mine is getting copaganda from christmas. I may be a nerd but I'm not a bootlicker. Also I don't have kids.
video just released, epic!
Is it a review or an advertisement ? Usually you're more nuanced, with pros and cons in each video. But here you're just saying that every set is great, so it sounds like any other sponsored video.
The main feature of these sets is the low price. So is it appropriate to talk about the disadvantages?
Hard to think of cons for $15
He did say these are *good* affordable sets. He’s not reviewing sets that Lego sent him. Very different type of review.
I thought Doc Oc was a guy and not a lady
*Spiderverse movie; alternate universe version.
@ got it. makes perfect sense.
:)
First comment first like and first viewer! 😊
Thanks for doing this video. I think a lot of people will appreciate it. 🫡
Mind you, I'm not sure how popular Mr Brownlee's ideas will be now. 🫣
