Yellowtail Fishing 40 Miles Offshore San Diego

- I went on a solo fishing trip on my 22 foot Seaswirl Striper boat in search of Bluefin Tuna while trolling the Nomad Madmacs. The tuna didn't want to bite, but I was able to find some good California Yellowtail fishing action on a kelp paddy that I found. I fished it by myself until a couple of boats noticed I was hooking up and came over to join in on the fun. The fish were biting flylined sardines on a circle hook using 25 pound test.
The 2023 San Diego fishing scene is already heating up and it's just getting started! Can't wait to see what the rest of the season has in store for us.

Great video bro! You're on fire. Madmacs bluefin last week and kelp paddy yellowtail this week. You're a beast. Fishing hard is paying off. Great work. Would love to do a collab vid chasing big bluefin after I get back from Baja. Keep doing what you're doing. I love it. Tight lines my man.
Thanks man! Lets make it happen! I'm loving the Baja videos you got going on. Headed to Oregon this weekend, and busy the next, but if the fish and weather line up I'll hit you up very soon.
This is awesome, nothing like sharing the wealth!
Yeah man! It comes back around.
Great solo trip, it only gets better from here 👍
Gotta love it!
love that your out there solo having a blast! i personally dislike the other boat pulling up to your school in order to find fish..... there's a whole ocean and they decided to stop on top of you to fish ...
Thanks! Yeah, I saw them coming from a ways out , which is why I was in a hurry to get that second one on the boat haha. I knew they saw me bendo and it was just a matter of time. Ended up being 4 boats on it in a matter of 15 minutes, and the bite died. They way I look at it I had two on board, and everything else would've been a bonus at that point! But i agree, a patty with no boats in sight is ideal 😎
Love the positive attitude and community love. Keep it up, good sir!
Thanks! I've checked out a few vids featuring you guys. Good luck this season!
THANKS SD,, always love seeing the action!!! rrrrrrrrrr CAPTAIN.. Thanks for being safe....
It was awesome!
Nice work, going solo .. That’s is my bucket list hooks trolling for blue fin tuna , yellow tail .. from Nor Cal
I find it to be pretty relaxing haha. The trolling thing is new for me but definitely something else to try and figure out it's been fun.
Nice Yellowtail for early season. 👌
Thanks! Going to be an awesome season
I was out there the day before you and got only 1 bonito :( glad to see it started picking up after
Well that looked like a fun solo trip. Nothing better than a few yellowtail runs to start and end the day. Yeww 🤙🏻
Patty hopping is the most fun fishing.
hell yea good shit my dude
Thanks! Been a good start to the season.
god damn! i actually never went to deep sea and is thirsty for some deep sea fishing i might go this summer for it because i recently bought the gear for yellow tail and tunas. bro i just wish i can have my first time fishing with you. you seem like a great guy and experienced for deep sea.
Get out there and try it man! Be careful though it's addictive. I'm still learning A LOT. Loslts of people with more experience than me but I highly suggest getting on some charters and make sure you chat with the deckhands. They know a ton of tricks its how I leaned.
Great video bro new subscriber 👍👍👍
Thanks man! Welcome aboard!
Haha, that didn’t age well. Bummed I missed out that day. Great job!
Haha yeah timing is never my strong suit. We'll get on em soon.

Excelent job brother ,enjoyed every minute you've got such a fun attitude!! Good vibes and million Likes!!
Thank you!! It's hard not to have fun out there!
Good job especially solo bro! We're hoping we can get a window this weekend to head out!
Thanks man! Yeah I heard a few people will be hitting the islands since offshore may be a little rough. Good luck!
Awesome brother, looking forward to getting into some action soon.
I think this might be an epic season.
Yay!!!!
Yeahhhh buddy
slaying
It's the only way!
Well if you ever need a guy to cruz with ill come out and slay with you man you crush it
Thanks man! I'm going to put a "call list" together for the future when I need another person on board.
@@SDKook well I wouldn't mind if I was one of them on that list lol
Consider yourself added!
What's your insta
Nevermind just followed you
All I know if I knew a buddy is going out he wouldn't be going alone unless he really wanted to
Sometimes it's nice to be alone too 😜
Nice!!!! I recognize the Phoenix rod as I have one myself. Just curious what reel, line type. Mono? Thanks again.
Thanks! The reel is Okuma metalloid 5 and izorline xxx 25lb
It's definitely solid!
Good stuff man, the 360 camera is cool. Have any open spots this summer? I'll chip in of course
Thanks! I'm going to start keeping a call list when I need an extra hand on board. I'll add you to it!
@@SDKook Right on, let me know when you need a hand on board!
What kind of Rod where you using I want to go for that kind of fishing 🎣 for yellows and tuna !!!!
I had a Phenix Abyss 15lb to 40lb rod, running 25lb test. It's a great live bait setup.
Awesome, 302 area?
Further, south and west of the corner a few miles. Closer to US waters
sick man, how do you get your camera to follow you around like that? might need to get me one for solo footage too
It's a 360 camera, and when I edit the footage I can make it followel me around.
AMAZING CONTENT LOVE YOUR VIDS SO FUCKIN MUCH
Haha thanks man much appreciated!
If you ever down to bring me along I’ll help clean the boat after and throw in on fuel and bait
Nice! What rod & reel are you using?
Thanks! I was using Phenix Axis rod, 15 to 40lb, and an Okuma Metaliod reel.
How are you recording? Great footage drone??
360 camera on a long selfie stick!
is ur yellowtail rod have an Okuma Makaira?
No it's actually the Okuma metalloid. Much cheaper!
What you need is learn to fly a drone to spot fish from the air, so you don't burn up a lot of fuel.
That would be sweet although I've heard its not as easy as it sounds. Have you tried spotting fishnwith one? I'd be curious to hear from people who have.
What power rod/reel are you running?
That was a 15lb to 40lb rod, very light action, and a Okuma metalloid 5. Running 25lb test.
WAS IT THIS YEAR?
Yes, this was last Saturday, April 28th.
Great video! A lot of skunks great paddy find. Keep them coming. Hoping to get out there soon.
Thank you! It's going to be an awesome season
Are you using a drone?
No, it's a 360 camera with a long selfie stick
Where can I fill out an application to be your fishing partner man😂
Haha! I need to make a list for when I think I'm going solo again.
@@SDKook I’m down brotha I’ll help you out in whatever you need. I actually went out there the same day as you too but the conditions weren’t too great as I got out there a little later.
I’m In. Lol
You are way too chill😂. Sorry I hate boaters that fish for boats. Stay away from other boaters people.
Haha probably wouldn't have been as stoked had I not put two on the deck already 😂
Gaff is to long
Yeah I have a smaller one that I should have used since I was solo.
