It's funny, you've convinced me to buy an RC Booster. The Carl Martin is very good but this is the best video I have seen showing how the RC Booster improves the sound. Thanks!!
no problem. I think you're experiencing what I did. I'm giong to try and do a new pedalboard demo this week...keep an eye out and you can hear how I'm getting these sounds now.
@kj677 Thanks! The amp in this demo is a 1971 Fender Deluxe Reverb with a Celestion Greenback speaker in it. I've actually bought a SUhr Badger 30 since then and I'll update the video in a week or so.
Hi Mark, i just ordered a Barber Dual Unlimited hoping to get a fat n' compressed mid-gain tone for some solo guitar work. My only fear is the pedal to be a bit dirty... from the demos i've heard it seems to get a lil bit too dirty on the highs... just wanted to hear from you how this pedal sounds like. nice gear btw, Luís Ferreira
Just wasn't working with the rest of the gear I have now. Too much crunch, too fizzy on the high end and I wish it had a mid control to work with my Suhr Badger 30. I just don't want to spend another $200 on the Vertex mod to change all that and the Barber UNLTD actually sounds better for my purposes. :)
Thx for the reply. I was just wondering because your demo sounded good on this end and also I just got the new single unit box and I was having a problem making sound the way I wanted. It seems to need a certain amp to take care of the high highs and the low lows. Anyway, thx again. Ps love the suhr badger.
I don't think it can support the organic richness from that pedal. Also, when you back off on the volume even on the overdrive side its still really marshall raw (kept note it does clean up but not super clean). This pedal also has a lot of low end, kind of like your playing threw a closed or open cab. My recommendation is only get this pedal if you are looking for a cranked marshall sound. Honestly, it probably beats the Purple Plexi 800 with the boost and second channel for overdrive.
What a great demo! You and Pete convinced me to buy this pedal! What amp are you using and what are the settings to get that beautiful jangly clean tone? If you don't mind me asking. Thanks again for the great demo and helping me make a great purchase!
Thats a pedaltrain 2..I have a pro now but I haven't done a video for it yet...I've actually completely redone the whole rig this month and even the Plexitone is for sale at the moment. I think I accidentaly marked your first comment as spam from my stupid phone, btw...
Based on another video I saw for the Carl Martin it didn't seem that it really changed sound all that much regardless of how the knobs were set. What was your take on it in actually using it?
In my opinion purple plexi 800 way better. And I'm not a big lovepedal fan either. The only pedal that really beats any high gain pedal out there right now is the JHS angry charlie.
Mark Wein i see. thank you. i ve been thiking about to buy plexitone+blues jr 3. i hope it will be great. and i have a fender road worn telecaster deluxe but actually it is not a telecaster :) it has two humbucker and its sound like a gibson.
Very cool! To be honest I've replaced the Plexitone with a Wampler Pinnacle Deluxe....a little more amplike. The plexitone had a little too much high end for me live.
hmm. i dont know much about that pedal but i will search. I have one more question. Is it possible to play metal music with blues jr. with a metal pedal(metalmuff etc)? Like iron maiden dream theater metallica megadeth.Im not sure. I am going to buy a full tube amp probably 15w or 30w . I havent decided yet. I also like to play blues rocknroll hardrock. Because of this i dont want to buy a metal amp. What do you think?
The Xotic RC / Barber DD combination was the best combination for the heavy drive. It made the Plexitone sound flat and compressed by comparison.

Thanks Tig! I actually wore these shoes because I knew I'd be doing a pedal video today. Couldn't find bunny slippers big enough. :p
Nice comparison and review.
Oh, and nice shoes, too!

actually the RC Booster is still there, I replaced the Barber DD with a Barber UNLTD and the Plexitone is now gone :)
@emilkeyb yeah...its a Guyatone Wah Rocker....I like it a lot although I don't really have too many places to use it tastefully.

@javierlima13 Thanks Javier! Guthrie is a big favorite of mine lately, too.

What is the signal chain order on your board? Are you using the ep boost and rc boost after the barber and Bb preamp?
Hey Mr. Wein , let me know when you wanna sell that guyatone wah rocket.
How is it on the overdrive side? Do you think it can substitute my lovepedal eternity?
did you say the plexitone is for sale??
what is the purple stompbox? is that autowah? sorry for my bad english
Mark, why is the plexitone gone ? If u don't mind me asking.
What speaker in the amp?
Cheers
Rocker
which amp did you use in this video?
It should be my 1971 Fender Deluxe Reverb - I did the video a while ago sao I'm having trouble remembering.

Sorry to be so annoying. I know its such a chore to watch free videos of folks demoing their gear.
