Obviously not the familiar Glen Miller version, but what an awfully fun alternate take!
It's almost startling to hear a tune you've heard a hundred times before played in a way that you have NOT heard before - and it works just as well.

Teddy's touring band, which finally materialised after the pianist's years of leading ad hoc groups for the Brunswick label, never made it big, but the outfit's lack of commercial success does not reflect the quality of the music, as we may appreciate here. Check out the luminaries on the label! Ben Webster would soon move on to the Ellington band and make a huge splash. Al Casey, most closely associated with Fats Waller's Rhythm, can be heard here -- and Heard, too, can be heard, J. C., that is, one of the finest drummers of the Swing Era.

How have I gone 68 years without hearing this version? Never mind, water under the bridge. Miller's has now taken a back seat, imo.

@@swingman5635 Ha! Well, isn't it nice to discover something "new"? I always feel that way, anyway, about a previously unheard gem from the Big Band Era. Teddy had always displayed impeccable musical instincts in his work with both Goodman and Lady Day, so it's not surprising that his own band was top-notch, too.

@@TrombonologyYes,it's always a delight to find a previously unknown version of a classic tune. I've come to realize how prolific Teddy was.

Obviously, Teddy's version didn't sell as many copies as the Miller rendition. 😉

Whoa! As soon as I saw JC Heard in the lineup, I was even more excited to hear this one. Thanks for posting.

Great swinging version but I still prefer the dynamics of the Glenn Miller recording...

Could you please do a recording of "Easy Living". It's Teddy Wilson and Billie Holiday.
