Lyrics:
I stand at your gate and the song that I sing is of moonlight
I stand and I wait for the touch of your hand in the June night
The roses are sighing a Moonlight Serenade
The stars are aglow and tonight how their light sets me dreaming
My love, do you know that your eyes are like stars brightly beaming?
I bring you and sing you a Moonlight Serenade
Let us stray till break of day
In love's valley of dreams
Just you and I, a summer sky
A heavenly breeze kissing the trees
So don't let me wait, come to me tenderly in the June night
I stand at your gate and I sing you a song in the moonlight
A love song, my darling, a Moonlight Serenade

My mom passed away tonight. She was 98. This was her favorite song. We played this song on our phone, put it next to her ear, she took a deep breath and then she was gone. I know that she felt safe and at peace.
I am so sorry for your loss.
May your dear mother rest in peace.
My deepest condolences about your mom. RIP
Oh gosh, that is beautiful. What a way to go. Surrounded by loved ones, being serenaded by Glenn Miller. Rest in peace, Sylvia's mom.
I am so sorry for your loss, I bet she was a wonderful woman.
Makes me nostalgic for a time I wasn't even born in.
Ok! It’s not just me! THANK YOU!
Beautiful comment 😊
I get that feeling too! You wanna be in the center of where everything is worth to explore.. im not sure that is the exact description but ppl who know what i mean they just know
Perhaps in your past life Signore

This song will play at my mother’s funeral tomorrow. She was 101 yrs old. 😢😢😢
❤❤❤
As old as the Queen Mother 😢
My condolences 🙏

My condolences 🙏
When my dad came home from WWII this song was on when he passed the statue liberty and it was the first song my mom and dad danced to when they met. Both are gone now dancing to this song in heaven. I love you mom and dad
This is beautiful, thank you for sharing ❤️
This moved me. ❤
Beautiful story thanks
The first time I heard this I was sitting in my grandfather's lap as a little boy of four. My grandfather was a veteran of the Pacific Campaign during World War II born in 1922. We used to solve crossword puzzles together and that was always our thing. I'm now in my 30's. Hearing this always harkens back to some of my earliest memories of my grandfather. He was a skilled carpenter and machinist in particular but understood all trades. He sadly passed away due to injuries he sustained in a car accident in 1998 when I was 9 years old. To me, he typifies the Greatest Generation who fought to end fascism and forge a better world that we enjoy today. RIP Perry Howe
May he rest in Gods care✝️
What a bold man comments like these melt my heart ♥️
Greatest generation, you got that right !
I have the same memories of grand parents. Wishing I could have had more opportunities to spend time with them.
My parents loved all of the big bands from the 1940s. It certainly was the "greatest generation". I hope more and more younger people realize the huge sacrifices that men and women have made over the years to protect our freedom.
This comment warms my heart and always know your grandfather was a hero who saved many
This is one of the prettiest tunes ever written!
The standard of the swing era's sweet music.
This is much better than Artie Shaw's "Begin The Beguine." So perfect for a slow dance.
I agree!! Prettiest song EVER! I play this song for my friends, and they look at me like I'm nuts! I'm thinkin' if THEY don't love this song THEY'RE nuts! 😊
@@johntiggleman4686 Why is it better?
@@Coowallsky Just my humble opinion. BTB is great as well.
My 91 year old grandfather passed away last year and this was one of his favorite tunes! I listen to it all the time.
Sorry for your loss! But that’s really sweet

Ever feel when you hear this that you've missed out on an gentler age of romance and social solidarity? I do.

The older I get, the more I begin to appreciate the music of my parents generation. I hated the stuff back in the 60's. After all, I was part of the Greatest generation! Yeah, right! and I turned 70 TODAY! and I love this music, now!!!!!!
grew up on this music love lots of other kinds.
I so agree with you. I’m72 and loves these songs. My parents must have listen to this
Ummm, you're a Boomer, dude.
@@jamespfitz and? 🤨
@@ihatemyf_ther He means that they are baby boomers not the greatest generation. After the war, their parents came home, got married and had a kid. That kid would then be a baby boomer, not the greatest generation. They are called baby boomers because of the boom the population experienced worldwide.
There’s something about this piece that always makes me cry. I have no idea why, it’s just such a beautiful tune....
Exactly the same,really dunno why...I'm 43.
They play it at the end of the glenn miller story when Colonel Potter from mash finds out he died in a plane crash
19 year old here, I am right there with you! Something about this piece, especially when it’s played through a phonograph, stirs up inexplicably powerful emotions, and I can never fully understand why.
Me too.
Someone else here said, "Makes me nostalgic for a time I wasn't even born in." I agree. When this song was popular America was at war and each moment was precious because it might be your last ones. Americans had survived the Great Depression and when it was finally winding down, they found themselves in a new, world war. That generation had mighty stuggles but they overcame them thru a firm resolve in themselves and their way of life. I hear this melody and I think about brave American men and women and I thank God for them. I wish we had such men and women now.
No doubt. IF this isn't played at my wedding. IM NOT GETTING MARRIED. plain and simple
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣👍
My wife and I chose Sinatra's version as our first dance. Very classy.
I support this.
I should have played this song at my wedding and a few other 1940s romance tunes;. my mom would have appreciated that.
I've said the same thing. I don't want any song made past 1962 at my wedding
My grandfather was in WW2 he won a bronze star in the army in the pacific and he always listened to Glenn miller brings back memories
This was the first dance I had with my wife at our wedding. When we first started dating, she showed me a Glenn Miller cd of hers and I told her I knew who he was. She didn't initially believe me until I started naming of songs of his. I think that's when she knew I was a keeper.
That's pretty awesome story. Thanks for sharing
That’s an amazing story, hopefully I can find myself a women who also enjoys music like this also playing this at my future wedding would be awesome.
I love all of his music just love dancing to this music
Funny. I just looked this song up for our wedding playlist (a few months away) and finding my soon-to- be he was a trumpet player and loves this music too was a huge selling point for me! ❤
I’m hoping me and my boyfriend dance to this at our wedding :3 (fingers crossed)
today marks 7 years since my grandma passed away. I hope she’s dancing with grandpa to this song in heaven. she is missed dearly🤍
I’d love to hold my Nana again and dance slowly to this, it was her favourite. Love you forever Nana
My Mom and Dad would dance to this song in our living room at night. I would sneak down the stairs and watch them dance and kiss. I still get teary eyed every time I hear this song.
❤❤
Aww that’s a lovely story

My Gramps 94 years young and when I play this for him.... He closes his eyes and smiles.
Grandma too. They still together after 75 years can you imagine being married to someone for over 75 years.
Yo. Go over there and play it for them this Christmas. I challenge you & they will love it. ❤ Merry Christmas
Back then sure but today...
Hell no.
It's that kind of attitude as to why marriages don't work. 100% from both parties. If you're not willing to do that, find one that you will.
Enjoy them and treasure them while they're here
My Nanna and Grandad likewise were married 76 years, my Grandad died in 2018 age 98 and my Nanna died in 2019, 5 days short of her 95th.
I hope your Grandparents are still doing well!
God bless you, and may He bless you and your family with good health for many years to come!❤️❤️🙏🏻
My dad was a teenager in the 40's and he used to tell us stories of how he and his buddies and all their girlfriends saw big bands like Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Artie Shaw at Wampler's Lake Michigan whenever the bands made a stop over between gigs in Chicago and Detroit....dad knew and loved all these tunes...miss u, Pop.
My Dad did that too in PA -- they would go to various ballrooms around southeast of PA and see all the big bands; it would get so crowded they would not dance, but just stand there and listen. Dad had his own little big band club in the Army when he was overseas in WW2. Anytime I hear Glenn Miller I think of my Dad and I hope there is plenty of Glenn Miller music in heaven -- if so he will be in paradise. In a little outfit newsletter it said that if anyone liked jazz they could come to their meetings but that they DID favor Bing Crosby over that new kid Frank Sinatra. To them, Bing's crooning went with this music.
My parents too….this is so beautiful it’s hard to listen to without tears.
a while back.. I bought an old Bakelite radio from a sale.. when I got home.. I turned it on and this song started to play 💖
i had a similar experience in October 2019, got a mid 60s bakelite radio from the thrift store, took it home and found a radio station that played the oldies, I heard everything from the Orleans to boogie woogie bugle boy at some point or another, sadly the station shut down around a year later but I'm very thankful for the time I spent with it, it introduced me to dozens of songs I might have never heard otherwise

My parents wedding song. This song was also one of my Dad’s favorite songs to drum to.
Gets me teary every time I hear it
I was 5 years old. In 1949 I was flying with my parents from Yokohama to Southampton in a Sunderland Empress Flying Boat. We stopped at many ports including Hong Kong. My parents were hosted at the Peak. There was a party with music. I was already in bed but I sneaked out to the corridor and looked down at the dancing guests. My parents were in each others arms moving together to the music. They looked happy. This made me feel happy and safe. Later I would learn that the music was by Glenn Miller and my mum and dad were dancing to this tune.
Watching this on the eighth anniversary of my Mother's funeral. My younger brother (also now departed) and I chose it to close the ceremony but we didn't tell anyone else. We were a bit nervous but as the opening chords played you could see everyone was smiling - perfect send off to a WWII veteran and a sadly missed Mum. They had to play it twice. Thank you Glenn.
May she Rest In Peace and what a beautiful send off
I also used this at my father's funeral ceremony.Great minds think alike.....🙂
This was played at my Nan and Grandads funerals, they were married over 50 years and both loved the song.
Not to be macabre but if our lives are like movies and there are credits THIS is the song I want to play!
This is sad yet so beautiful. May they rest in peace, may we all be reunited in Heaven when our time comes. 💗
From a time when musicians needed work ethic, brains and talent. We'll not see his kind again.
What you on about? Music is better then ever now a days because we have evolved from such classics. If you can't find any good music from today then maybe stop listening to the radio. Thanks to the Internet more people than ever before can learn and make music so you shouldn't be starved for options. This is the kind of song 10 year olds play when their first learning how to play the trumpet. Humans are so much better at everything now and we'll keep getting better
@@obsoletechannelarchiveModern music can be good, but certaintly isnt better. Glenn Miller deserves more respect than being labeled as 10 year old trumpet player...

This is the type of music I wouldn't mind hearing coming from next door on a rainy night.
This Glenn Miller song “Moonlight Serenade” was one of my Mom’s favorite songs.
She Loved Big Band music as a child in the 30’s and a teen ager during WWII.
She and my Dad would listen to Benny Goodman, Gene Krupa, Woody Herman, Spike Jones, The Dorsey Brothers Big Band, Buddy Rich and of course Glenn Miller.
She’s the reason I’m a drummer.
I had this tune playing for my Mom & Dad on their 53rd wedding anniversary.
My dear Dad passed in 2006.
Last Wednesday June 5 in the early morning at 2:53 my dear sweet Mom went home to be with Christ Jesus and reunite with my Dad.
I so wish I could have played Glenn Miller’s “Moonlight Serenade” one more time for her.
She loved it so.
Thank You Mom & Dad for being such wonderful loving godly parents and Thank You Lord for magnificent beautiful parents.❤❤🕊️
One of the sweetest songs ever played..
When I die and fade into blackness, I hope this is the sound I hear infinitely.
Something about this Melody is hypnotizing and mesmerizing. It soothes, and calms you. I just see black and white movies, and city lights and ballrooms.

I see an open window in Paris, with rain falling and dripping down the sides of the window, it’s 1am and the sky is dark, but the city is very much alive. I am in bed with my lover and all is well as this quietly plays.
I think it is partly that da-DA-duh-DA-duh under the melody...it just walks along like footsteps and supports the melody. It's lovely really. Now I want to hunt up a full orchestration just for another fun listen. It is also fun to listen to George Gershwin himself play Rhapsody in Blue. Gives it extra meaning.
I was at the funeral of my grandfather and they played this song at the ceremony,i instantly started crying..coz it’s so beautiful and will now always remind me of him♥️
My condolences.
Goodnight everybody.
Thanks! 😊
Love from the Philippines! 78 and still listening to Miller's signature song.
hope you'll have a happy life, gramps
listened to this for the first time when I was 8 or 9 in a car in the rain with my mom. Still young at 14, but this song hasn’t aged a day. Beautiful as ever. Hope you continue to enjoy this song as well.
Magandang Umaga!
Old songs are better than modern
Real
I used to have a cassette tape of old Big Band music and this was one of the songs on it! I was born in 1983, but I was raised to appreciate older music, older movies, older times and older people who blazed the trails we take for granted. 😊
Bless your heart
Then you had smart parents lol, I was born in 2007. My parents have shown me old music, only on the radio, everything else I’ve seen myself. But dad has told stories and influences me to keep looking into older things
18 years ago was hurt bad in a patrol in Iraq hit a IED . They sent me to Germany to have surgery and recover. The wife came over to visit and this song was playing on radio when she walked into the hospital room the thoughts of that day come back even today when this song is played . Side note to story is my Son is 17 years old another reason to love this song !!!
Where has all the good music gone... I'm pretty sure that this type of timeless piece of art is and always be one of a kind

This was my grandparents "song". They started dating during WW2. Every wedding, in their house, etc they would dance to this song. They're both gone now, but everytime I hear it I think of them, miss them and miss a time I never knew. ❤
I close my eyes and see my parents slow dancing to this, great memories from childhood.
This is the music I play on my old phonograph when my house is all freshly cleaned and the candles are being lit 🥰🤤❤
Yes, again, somehow this song is always wonderful even on the 1000th playing. He wrote the perfect song.
This song is so calming and no matter what age, I’m a teen and still like it
I cant for the life of me not to cry when I hear this most amazing song, it was my beloved mama's favorite and even though she's been gone since 2004, I can close my eyes and see her smile, that beautiful smile everytime she would hear it..I am crying now as I listen to it as well, oh my sweet mama, I love and miss you every day, and will continue to do so until I see you again, until then,
Thank you for loving me, thank you for all you did for me, and it was such a blessing to have you as my dear Mother..may our Father continue to hold you in His loving arms always and forevermore..🙏❤🙏

I can see the whole platform rising from under the stage at the Warners Strand in New York City with the whole band and Glenn Miller out front playing his trombone. What a thrill!!!!
Great song from the good old days
Lucky you..I was born in Brooklyn NY in 1949...but I watched alot of old movies so I knew about Glenn Miller...watched on TV...WPIX...the Early Show ? We had a Dumont TV

How can you not love a sweet melody like this 💖
I was born in the 80’s and this song made me feel nostalgic, I don’t even know how! I can almost feel the 50’s NYC vibes.
This was the 40s I think but I still know what you’re saying

This was my great grandmas favorite song. Makes me feel like I’m six years old in her living room again
This always reminds me of the beach in the 1950’s or a small 4 room house in the middle of tall grassy hill. There’s nothing else. Just a house with a blue sky and grass surrounding it. This song gives me a warm feeling.
This music prompted me to title my book 'Moonlight Serenade - Secret Skies over Bletchley Park' the story about the D-Day Landings 6 June 1944
This song is sooo good, can't wait to hear the version of it they're using in Bayonetta 3
Great music and song of Glenn Miller. I was not even born when this song was composed by GM.
This was played at my mother's funeral. Glenn Miller was one of her favorites. She didn't know who I was at the end, but she sure knew Glenn Miller. And thanks to her, now I do, too.

He fought in the pacific and freed so many people from tyranny. He served in WwII, Korea, and Vietnam. He truly was a part of the greatest generation that ever lived. I grew up in the S.F. Bay Area and my dad actually went to the Golden Gate theater and listened to Glen Miller band in person. He used to tell me stories about the Big Band era. He passed away 10 years ago and I miss his stories.
I first heard and played this on Clarinet in a jazz big band at a Saturday music school when I was 14 and I've played Clarinet since I was 9 and without music I'd be dead! I still play in bands and grateful I was reminded of this beauty again in band yesterday. Glad my 10 year old son has been exposed to real music from birth and ever grateful for my life with music.
