      Thanks for the question and for watching. As I was just visiting the city my only ideas are the ones in the video. However Tourism Winnipeg is a great resource …. reach out to them and mention my video. ✌🏽

    hmm...looks like fun!
    I looked into it and technically WInnipeg gave the name "Winnie" to a Black bear in the Winnipeg Zoo. which then inspired a the author's kid, Christopher Robin Milne, to name his teddy bear "Winnie". which THEN inspired the stories...**whew**...
    well, if I'm ever in Winnipeg, I gotta make a Top 5 Millenial-Friendly things to do ;P

      Actually, that is incorrect. Calvary veterinarian Lt. Harry Colebourn purchased the bear cub at a train station, located in White River, Ontario for $20. Lt. Colebourn named the cub, a female, Winnipeg Bear for the town where he grew up. The name Winnie is a nickname, short for Winnipeg. Lt. Colebourn was on his way to Quebec to join up with fellow soldiers heading overseas for WW1. Colebourn and his troop left for England and Winnie went with him on the ship. Winnie became the mascot for the troop, the 2nd Canadian Infantry Brigade. The troop recieved word that they were heading to France and given a specific order the Colebourn could not bring the bear. Winnie was loaned to the London Zoo, which later was made permanent when Colebourn realized just how loved Winnie was by all the zoo visitors. Winnie was one of the most popular animals in the zoo at the time. Winnie was quite tame. Children that visited her at the zoo could ride on her back, and zoo-goers could feed her. Winnie's preferred sweet treat was a mixture of corn syrup and condensed milk. Among the most frequent zoo visitors were A.A. Milne and his son Christopher Robin. Christopher Robin named his teddy bear after Winnie. Then combined the name Winnie with the name of a friend's pet swan, which was called Pooh, to create Winnie-the-Pooh. The first Winnie-the-Pooh book was published October 14, 1926 and included Piglet, Eeyore, Kanga, Owl, and Rabbit, all of which were based on stuffed animals that belonged to Christopher Robin.

    I'm a terrible Winnipegger! I have never been to BDI, but I'm going to have to now. Another classic ice cream spot is about 30 minutes north of Winnipeg, in Lockport. Skinner's, worth a go if you're ever here again. :)

    • @heydanking
      @heydanking  5 років тому

      Yeah, definitely hit BDI ... and I’ll checkout Skinners if I ever get the opportunity!

      Sometimes during the summer it can be humid but for the most part we have a dry heat and dry cold. Temperatures can go as high as around 30C in the summer months and as cold as -40C around January and February. As long as you dress for the weather you should be fine. 😊
