Always look forward to toaster Tuesday 👍🏼 mechanic since 88 drums are easy just double check your progress by looking at other side of car ✌🏼 see ya next week bro
you can remove those two springs with a large pair of pliers also................straight on, grab the top (on sides), put other hand behind to push on pin to hold it in while you push, then push spring down with pliers and give it a twist.
I think that is how I remove them the first time I tried to do the shoes, but then could not get the springs back on. I ran to the store and got the brake shoe spring tool and had them on in seconds.
I had 'fun' for a couple hours trying to figure out why the drum wouldnt go on after the new shoes were put on only to find out the shoes were made too thick at the factory just enough to not work. Got another brand from a different store and they worked fine. I hate drum brakes.
When you're doing the brakes you put the wheels on and you adjust it from the inside with a quarter turn and that'll give you enough to stop evenly on both sides , because when you put the rims on makes the brakes feel loose because you're adding the weight of the tire and rim.
@@ExtremeDailyDrivers put the round clip that spins at the very tip of the needle nose vice grips. Then once your pin is through and spring is on use those to compress the spring and twist on the clip.
@@ExtremeDailyDrivers but you showed me the super easy way to replace and reset a wheel stud. If it wasn't for your video I would've been stuck with the old knowledge of a laborous manual method 😅 you have shown me a better way 👊🏾
I'm replacing my rear lip and bumper with the stock bB one (gives me a license plate relocation) and also a bB rear hatch. Also clearcoated my drums after stenciling bB logo on it lol.
Hmmm. Ok I see, you changed the drums but not the brake shoes. I took those off & put new ones on but I'm having a problem with the part itself. Its not a good fit, like they are engaged so I doubt the car will be drivable. I am trying to check my manual about size specs and not having any luck. Orielly & Advanced seem to carry the same size shoes but it is not fitting right....do you have any experience with this? ... I may have to go to Toyota for parts....
@@ExtremeDailyDrivers I couldn't find it. I searched...are you sure you recorded it? Anyway, it was a exclusive part issue. Toyota break shoes worked like a charm & installation was super easy.
Drum brakes aren’t hard. But it’s best if you watch someone else do them first. I don’t have that tool. I use basic pliers. The only other tools that I use are; flat blade screwdriver and good needle nose pliers. Take the spring off the bottom first. THEN take off the two nuts. Then the assembly comes off easy. Disassemble and reassemble the top springs out on the ground
Great tutorial dude, changing the brake shoes always sucks. The drums look sick. I like how clean and slick they look, I went with a matted black on mine but like the was the silver stripe pops! Right on man, looking forward to next week's vid!
The back seat is indeed the best part of the car, and I can't think of any other car on the market, especially in this size and price class, that offers a back seat that spacious. Too bad I never get to sit in it. BTW, you told me to "please unsubscribe", but I was never subscribed to begin with.
Did my drum brakes a few months ago. The spring was a pain,if there is a tool to make it easier.im buying one next time. Also had to do some bending on the spring arm so it would contact the ratching part of the adjuster
Yo playa...well, we too old to paint drums red, unless you match front...good job, yes...tedious... enough people have rims and neglect the backdrop ie brakes n rotors... idea...pop off glove box handle, gold backdrop to match centre console...one love

Like your videos bro your content is great 👍 new to the channel I also have a scion its a xa any ideas on how to convert drums in the back to rotors? Have you ever thought of doing a conversion
Hey thanks for subbing, and welcome to the channel!! Lots of people ask about the rear conversion, but it's not easy and there is no clear cut way to do. Did I mention it's also totally unnecessary in these cars? Yeah, there that's too. So I won't be upgrading any time soon. Thanks for watching!

I can’t speak for anyone else, but I’m super excited about the rear lip and can’t wait for next week! 🤣

Thanks .. grea video!!
Always a great day when I get motivation for my XB! love you man, and it's cool to know you're in the same groups as me.
Thanks Man!
There is a wrench for adjusting the ebreak and you can adjust the rear breaks by backing up and pressing on the breaks.
I've heard that before. Are they supposed to be self adjusting? How does that work?
When you're doing the brakes you put the wheels on and you adjust it from the inside with a quarter turn and that'll give you enough to stop evenly on both sides , because when you put the rims on makes the brakes feel loose because you're adding the weight of the tire and rim.
That makes sense. When you adjust the brakes, should there be some drag?
Yes , a quarter turn with tire's on
Is the lower grille on a 2005 xb supposed to be shorter in length than the upper?
I never used that tool for the springs. I teched for 5 years and always had better luck using needle nose vise grips.
I'm trying to imagine how that would work. Do you compress it with the video grips and turn it with the pliers?
@@ExtremeDailyDrivers put the round clip that spins at the very tip of the needle nose vice grips. Then once your pin is through and spring is on use those to compress the spring and twist on the clip.
