Thanks for the walk through. Two months ago, I replaced the starter in my daughter's 2002 Camry LE, while it was parked in her high school parking lot. Today, I was semi-blessed in that my 2006 Sienna starter failed while my Sienna was parked in my garage and not in a Walmart parking lot or my workplace parking. This job was similar to my daughters '02 Camry starter replacement accept there were more connectors to undo and re-connect and also a transmission sensor to avoid damaging. Your video helped me to see what stages of the repair I needed to be cautious about. I'm glad I was not over-confident, after doing my daughter's starter but, instead I referred to your video to avoid marching foreword in ignorance. Thanks.

Thank you for your 'how to' video. I also appreciate you telling us the socket size as you walked us through... I didn't have to "try" 3 different ones on each bolt head! lol.!

Thanks Brian for a well done video. I managed to get down to the point where I had successfully removed the 2 bolts holding the starter motor to the bell housing. But I could not get the starter motor front flange/pinion gear assembly to break free from the bell housing. I tried hammering the tip of a thin bladed screwdriver into the seam between the front flange and the bell housing, without success. I tried hitting down on the rear end of the motor yoke assembly (where the carbon brushes are located), without success. I tried levering a crowbar under the same rear end of the starter motor and prying up from the transmission housing, but no success. This is an 18 year old Sienna, located in eastern Canada and it is -20 F outside, so it is hard for me to work. The seam is now soaking overnight in PL100 spray. In your video, your motor just pops off. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Update. As I was able to determine that my solenoid was able to extend the bendix pinion gear when current passed through the solenoid, so I concluded that my only problem was that the heavy gauge braided copper wire running from the solenoid to the motor was broken in two. Fortunately I was able to unbolt the motor yoke assembly and take the motor apart and install a new set of brushes which came with a new braided copper cable ($15). So in the end, I didn't have to disconnect the bendix gear assembly frozen to the bell housing. If it had been necessary to separate the frozen parts, then I would have made a tool from a flat plate of steel with 4 holes drilled in it (2 threaded and 2 unthreaded) and I would have taken advantage of the existing 4 holes on the front flange (2 threaded and 2 unthreaded) in order to insert into this plate properly sized bolts in a manner to pull one frozen part away from the other, much in the same way that so called "jackoff" bolts are used to pull off a brake rotor when stuck to a wheel hub.

It looks like there been so many owners of the Toyota Sienna Starter problems. I purchased one not to long ago like in the year 2016 or 2017 and right after I purchased it from a car dealer lot the starter failed the next day. I had to purchase a starter and pay for a tow truck so it can be towed all the way to my house. I called the dealership where i purchased it they didn't want to pay for the tow truck even if it was towed to their own shop and since the incident happened to almost closing time on their end it was going to be to late. Anyways, i purchased the starter and my dad put it on the Van. I called the dealer and told them that I had already purchased the starter and they told me to bring in the receipt and they Will refund me the money for what i expend. Anyways, Is anyone having problems with the Stick that it can be switched gear from P to Reverse without stepping on the break or having the car engine on?

One thing that turn a wrench is a so called mechanic that does not know what size fasteners he's working on! You keep on referring to the 6mm hex screws as 10mm bolts. Really! If you go back and check you were using a 10mm socket/wrench to remove a 6mm fastener that has a 10mm head. So don't say your removing a 10mm bolt for the newbie's out there. They may not have any wrenches to start their project then go down the their local hardware dealer and buy a 10mm socket/wrench and what do you think they would fell like when they go to use their new purchased tools to start their job. Someone's going to be pissed off! Just say'n . Other than that you did a great job on the replacement procedure!
