    Thank you for all the very kind comments about our film. I am pleased to say that Cyril and Daisy are keen to make another film in 2018, and a script has been agreed. We are going to make a start in the spring, and hope to have it ready to release in the Autumn.

    The railway and your videos of it are remarkable. How comforting and relaxing to watch! Such a clever narrative - and even with still model figures: totally credible; I envy your skills.

    Thank you once again for all the kind comments. Plans are well under way for a new film, as soon as the dreary British weather takes a turn for the better. Cyril and Daisy are most gratified that their stories are being shared by new Canadian friends. They already have their scripts for the next film. The pages are blank, but they still require some time to learn them.

    Thank you all so much for your very kind comments. Cyril and Daisy are currently enjoying a post-production holiday at Broadstairs (separate rooms at Sea-view Villas Boarding House). We've copied your remarks onto a postcard and have forwarded them to their landlady. Cyril is most depressed at the parlous state of English cricket, and like Mr Bloodnock, blames it on a surfeit of green wickets. Daisy has her eye on the young Nottinghamshire cricketer, Harold Larwood, but feels that he'd be more effective if he bowled a bit shorter!

    Hello, I recognize your Director class loco ( Bing for Bassett lowke ,Sir Sam Fay) , it's a one of my late fathers ( Arthur J Ambrose) that I painted and lined for him when I was a young man in the early 1980's. The boiler bands were in fact paper coloured with black biro pen ; the rest of the lining was done with a bow pen and the whole paint job clear lacquered. I would know it anywhere and it's so nice to see it in use all these years later.

    • @lizstrange468
      @lizstrange468 5 років тому

      Thank you Richard. I'm always very pleased to discover more history of my locos and I've always thought the paper boiler bands most interesting! Did your father actually build the loco incorporating some old B. Lowke parts? Delighted that you have seen the old loco again and that you were able to identify it. Peter S.

    • @richardambrose3642
      @richardambrose3642 5 років тому

      @@lizstrange468
      Hello Peter and Liz,
      My Father acquired the loco as an unbuilt and unpainted box of bits, including the body and tender. I do not believe that there were frames or wheels etc.
      Any missing parts would be scratch built with the exception of the wheels. The boiler bands were executed in this way as I didn't paint the bicolour black and white lining at all and my father didn't possess the skills to paint them on.
      I have one photo of this loco taken in the mid-late 1980's which I can scan and send you if you are interested.
      Further to my earlier assertion, I estimate that the loco was built and painted in the latter half of the 1980's; I was still a teenager; 18 or 19 years old.
      My father passed away in 2006, although he had already sold or given many of his finest locos away by then. It was the only Bassett Lowke loco that he owned, as far as I know.
      I remember that the loco was adapted to also run on battery power and a small switch was fitted in the cab, I think.
      I was unable to find your site anymore?
      Thank you for your reply, I am pleased that the loco is cherished and run regularly. I look forward to seeing more of your excellent films, should make any.
      Kind Regards
      Richard

      @@richardambrose3642
      Dear Richard,
      Very many thanks. All that is most interesting. I understand that Bassett-Lowke produced a basic kit for ‘Sam Fay’ in G.1 but this ceased around the first war. After that, appropriate castings were still available, albeit not in kit form. I’m most grateful to you for telling me about your father and the history of the loco. I love the paint finish and have from time to time endeavoured to do some light retouching. Interestingly, I’ve never been able to match the paint colour! The loco is certainly one of my favourites and is a very good interpretation of the prototype.
      I’m sorry that I have had to discontinue the website. The providers took to increasing the charges year on year and as it was never a commercial enterprise, I fear it became too expensive to keep.
      So glad you like our little films. I will try to include ‘Sam Fay’ in the next one.
      My email address is: peterhstrange@hotmail.com and I would really love to see your photo of the loco if at all possible. With best wishes, Peter S.

      Hello John, thanks for the question. Cyril and Daisy are indeed back and have learned their lines. We are producing a new film which, if all goes as intended, will be out in early December. Our aim is to produce one film each year, and that seems to be about as much as our dusty imaginations (and the demands of the real world) can cope with! Cyril is very excited about it, but as usual, Daisy is taking it all in her stride.
      Best wishes all, Duck End Pictures

    I'm very sad to report that my great friend and one half of Duck End Pictures, Peter Strange, died suddenly on Sunday 19th April. It was Peter's beautiful garden railway in Oxfordshire, and his ever growing collection of exquisite Bassett-Lowke rolling stock, that inspired the 'Cyril and Daisy' stories.
    Over the years we had enormous fun together, spending the winter months creating the stories and planning the filming sequences, building sets and filming indoor scenes. By May we were ready to move outside and play with the trains. Together we sometimes laughed till we cried at the absurdity of the adventures of these two little people. We always felt that the fact that they couldn't actually move required extra thought and informed our creativity. The films were a genuine collaboration; we each contributed in our own way. I will look back with great pleasure on the fun we had together.
    We were always very pleased to receive positive comments about the films - so a big 'thank you' for making the effort to post on here. It was good to know that there are others who shared our whimsical sense of humour. Sadly, there will be no more Cyril and Daisy films. However, I have two sequences nearly completed from our next film which I will edit and post as an unfinished project in the next few weeks.
    Paul Rhodes

May he rest in peace, stay safe, and best wishes to your family and his.
