    This is a spiteful attack on ‘the little guy’ - spiteful and stupid in the failure to realise that being asset rich does not give you a millionaire lifestyle; sell productive fields to pay the tax - and severely dented, or down the pan, goes the means of your livelihood. OK, some very wealthy people - not ‘real’ farmers - are using the exemption as an IHT loophole, but out the baby goes with the bathwater if the new legislation is used as a blunt instrument to cosh truly real farmers.

    This has really got to most of us. It's repression of the little person by the condescending elite, Animal Farm writ large. 'Work harder, Boxer.' I have never been so angry. These farmers have created our land. Why can't politicians see that 'farmers doing their bit to help the NHS' will be temporary, fleeting. The land, however, is forever, and it will be fragmented under this vindicitve, downright stupid budget. I talked to a farmer the other day, and she was near tears. She said, 'There will be plenty of this.' Then she drew her finger across her throat. In the west country town where I live, the talk is all of this, and depression hangs over every corner and every shop and every field.

      And no wonder considering the inundating flood of EU regulations that made no sense in a British farming context, the bureaucratic self-enriching circus of bureaucracy that meant farmers’ wares were always competing against cheaper goods shipped in from abroad and sold at rates that they could not match, while being forced to pay for and douse their lands with chemicals Brussels nitwits with no understanding of the nature of, well, nature (but with an interest in the stock price of said chemicals) had decided should be used.
      I bet you don’t have an inkling of the realities of rural life.

    • @whitegoose2017
      @whitegoose2017 2 дні тому

      @@Zenocrate Exactly. They don't understand. I'm not a Brit, but I understand that whatever works in Brussels or southern Europe might not be the right way to do things here. My country is the northernmost country in Europe. Regulation from Brussels in relation to agriculture is very unfair. We have the shortest growing period yet we have to play by the same rules that the Poles or Germans who live in a much warmer climate. Also an incredible amount of energy goes to just heating up during the winter, so we don't freeze to death. Should we be punished for excess CO2? According to EU, yes.
      Here it's commonplace for almost every house to have a fireplace to warm up the house, but there's probably regulation coming down from Brussels soon that says you can't do this anymore. And to be honest that's the most insane thing that has actually been discussed by the green radicals.

    It's as plain as day that this is about punishing and extorting farmers who aren't traditional Labour voters. Labour think that it's a win-win situation - basically by doing this they're not losing any of their loyalists. However either they fail to consider cause and effect, or they don't care and it's actually part of the plan. A lot of these farmers will lose the farms that they've managed for decades or longer and they'll be bought up by the huge corporations who already own virtually everything. Once the corporations own everything, monopolisation will take its toll and prices will go up as food quality goes down. They'll destroy British agriculture forever and we'll all suffer. But the MPs won't care because they all live in London and think that non-London types simply don't matter.

    trouble is... Gove. How am I supposed to take anything seriously he says about class or 'peasant's revolt' when he oversaw the fastest transfer of wealth from the middle and working classes to his pals? He was there. He had a voice and a vote... easy to say the right thing when you have no skin in the game.

    I don’t understand why farmers’ land assets should be taxed less than people who have parents that own businesses that includes expensive assets. Both scenarios can lead to a family business not being owned or kept within the family. Why is farming considered different?

    Wealthy land owners should pay their fair share of Tax, it should be 40% like everyone else!
    Working in a rural community I know that the richest people in the countryside are the farm owners and that’s not through hard work, but through being born to a wealthy farm owning family. So what if wealthy land owners cannot pass on all their wealth to their children, so that they don’t need to work (most wealthy farmers hire workers to do the work for them). inheritance tax on farms, reduces their value and gives real working farmers the chance to buy the land, which will drop in value as a result.

    Is there any reason why a farm cannot be sold to your child(ren) for say £1? Or, you enter into a wager (then 'lose') and it becomes a debt of honour?

      If you inherit a farm and you don't have cash in the bank you will need to sell off a chunk of land to get money to pay the tax.

    You would think that the core things any Gov needs to do are to ensure that the country has secure food, water and pharmaceuticals for medical care. These are all essential, more than anything else. Take any of them away and people will start dying and make COVID seem like a summer camp. It doesn't take a genious to see the wars and other things recently that could interupt the ability to supply enough food for the UK. Add to that the fact we have twice as many people as the landmass can support and you can see how precarious the situation is. Removing many farms is going to make that situation far worse. Idiocy that is almost unparallelled.
