  • In this video, we dive into the fascinating world of welding and fabrication as we craft custom shelves using patterns and jigs. Join us on this journey where precision meets creativity!
    We start by discussing the importance of patterns and jigs in welding and fabrication projects. These essential tools ensure accuracy and consistency throughout the fabrication process, enabling us to produce high-quality shelves with uniform dimensions.
    Next, we demonstrate how to create and use patterns for cutting and shaping metal pieces. Whether it's marking out precise measurements or tracing intricate designs, patterns serve as our guide to achieving the desired outcome.
    With our patterns in place, we move on to the fabrication phase. Using a combination of welding techniques, we carefully join the metal components together to form sturdy shelves.
    By the end of the video, you'll not only have a newfound appreciation for the art of welding and fabrication but also the knowledge and confidence to tackle your own custom shelving projects using patterns and jigs. So grab your safety gear and join us as we unleash our creativity in the workshop!

    Nice job Brandon. Learn something still after many years. I bet I would have less neuropathy, arthritis and tendonitis if all the modern tools were available at a reasonable cost 55 years ago. Keep up the great teaching. You're needed greatly in the days of non education institutes of indoctrination. Thank you! 👍👍

      You are so right David. Plus guys around our age probably pushed our bodies harder than this generation does anyways. I remember in school we had home economics. We learned how to sew buttons back onto our clothes, put a patch on worn jeans, balance a check book, work with tools. Things that actually mattered in real life and I'm seeing the indoctrination first hand watching our grandson in public schools. It's discouraging for sure but we try to keep him grounded in real life and hope and pray he stays on that path.

    Wow, Brandon, what an education!!! I think you should start a welding/fabrication school and charge for your time and expertise!!! There, now I have given you purpose for your reitirment!!! Start planning now!!! Third career comming up! This was a great job you did and making sure it fits in a house that is not square shows just how important pre-planning and measureing is!!! Looking forward to the finished product!!! Be well, be safe, be Blessed!!!

    Hello again from Canada Brandon. As always, your videos are both informative and engaging. Stupid questions on reckoning for inside corners that are not 90 degrees: can you at some point, explain what you were doing with the compass to get the carboard template perfect? I have dealt with this before but with a lot of fudging and fiddling. You seem to have a nice, neat technique for accomplishing this.
    Second comment: thanks to your video and advice, I finally bought that Evolution mitrering chop saw. What a game changer! First project with it was to build a heavy, wheeled stand. I should add, an over-egnineered stand but a solid platform is a must. And many thanks for the pointers on setting it up. No other reviewer but you, has pointed out the need to make sure the fence is square. In my case, there was not enough slop in the bottom tabs to make this happen so I had to carefully file them down to make it all work.
    Keep 'em coming Mr. Lund. I learn something new every time I watch your videos. Today's video on the importance of templates is no exception.

      Thanks man and congratulations on that new saw. That will give you years of trouble free service. That saw is the Cadillac of saws! I will do a video on using that compass. Thank you for the suggestion. Have a great weekend!

    Hi Brandon.
    Enjoyed this vid. I have a question with regards to penetration with regards to the various welding methods. Eg... Which weld gives deeper penetration.."stick vs mig vs tig, etc." and versa visa?

    • @BrandonLund
      @BrandonLund  5 місяців тому

      For the given process, each will produce simular results if setup properly. I chose MIG over tig or stick because it's fast and produces very little spatter.

  • @nelsonglass6
    @nelsonglass6 4 місяці тому

    Question… for this type of work, would tig be cleaner?

    • @BrandonLund
      @BrandonLund  4 місяці тому

      Cleaner meaning no spatter to clean up, but the labor would be 3x more for the same visual result.

    Brandon cpuld ypu measure length and just use an angle finder instead of templit or will tjat not work

    • @BrandonLund
      @BrandonLund  2 місяці тому

      I could but I wanted to make sure everything fit perfectly and the templates really help ensure that the finished product will mirror exactly what the site conditions were.
