When you have had the duals off on the 4640 are the inner wheels set to 30in rows for planting? Were you moving them also.

Our 4020s had to have the rear tire width changed and the wedges were rust seized by rust. They were frozen to the axles took some heat and patience we also had a 4520 that had the long axles, we had to remove the outer dual evey year in order to cultivate our 38 inch rows so we had to reset the spacing every year in the spring and fall to it got to be a habit. They only problem was after moving the inner wheels we had to retorque those wheel hubs after about 10 hours of operation, one year we didn't and I went to one of the farms with a rowcrop cultivator and when i got their the wheel came off the right side lost two hours putting the wheel back on.
Never made that mistake again !!!
Wish I had a JD 4020 to work my 10 acres. But so far for my 1st Tractor I got a Jd 1020

Different row spacing. I narrow it to 30 inches to row cultivate. Then set them back out to make it more stable the rest of the year making hay on our hills

Does the 4020 have a snap ring? After a little while recheck the wedge.
Unfortunately 4020s do not. That came later on down the road.
Good stuff Travis, them are decent wheels on the back of the 4020, are they 520/70/38's, my sparks are not as good as they used to be👌👍😎
My guess would be 18.4-38 which is a 460/85R38 in metric. That’s what these later 4020s had as an option from factory and anything wider than an 18.4 gets really wide to be in 30 inch rows. The tire you mentioned is a 20.8-38 with a shorter sidewall. Just my guess.
