    When docking your boat attach lines fore and aft (before reaching the dock), approach slightly bow in (45 degree angle or less) and secure a line from the bow (front of the boat) to a dock cleat and put engine in reverse, keeping it at idle and turn the wheel towards the dock, it will pull the stern back into the dock, holding it there while you tie up the stern line to a dock cleat.

    About 50 years ago I took a free yes free boating course from the Coast Guard Aux. We learned how to get the bow in put out a short line then use it as a spring. A little reverse and the motors would pull the stern right into dock. That's how deal with that wind and current.

    Are there any cleats on those docks? It appears all there is are the pilings. It sure would be nice to have a few heavy duty cleats on the dock between the pilings.
    That being said, years ago I practiced throwing a lasso, a very useful skill in boating. I could stand in the boat and drop a loop around one of those pilings from 10 or 15 feet away. A very handy little trick.

      @falsedragon33 2 роки тому +3

      I think the same. I suppose this is why fishermen wake up so early. To avoid these people. It's really simple too. Approach at a 45 degree angle. When the bow touches the dock, tie off the 45 degree bow cleat to the dock. Steer away from the dock and reverse. The boat will pivot on the cleat, and the boat will suck up against the dock. This is the only way I can dock on a 6mph river. If I acted like these fools, I would be out many boats, and a few lives.

Connect your strap and safety chain and pull out. Then you only occupy the dock for as long as necessary. But that’s not how it works over there in Florida.

    Unloading and loading your boat can be very easy... to unload remove all straps and the front cable, (THIS IS NOT FOR ROLLER TRAILERS) tie a (dock) line (10' to 15' in length) to the side cleat on the dock side and have your partner walk beside you and onto the dock while you back the boat into the water. Only back far enough to start floating the boat, then hit your brakes and the boat should float free. Have your partner tie off the boat to the dock. Add more dock lines as needed.
    **VERY IMPORTANT** IF YOU HAVE A ROLLER TRAILER (ROLLERS ON YOUR TRAILER) KEEP THE FRONT CABLE ATTACHED OR YOUR BOAT MAY ROLL OFF THE TRAILER WHILE YOU ARE BACKING DOWN THE RAMP!
    Loading your boat, back your trailer into the water leaving the boat trailer fenders out off the water, most folks back too far into the water, (if your fenders are under water you are too far) causing all kinds of problems. Simply drive your boat onto the trailer, it will usually self correct when it slides up the bunks, if you are slightly off center. You may have to goose it slightly to get it all the way on the trailer. Have your partner connect the cable to the front and winch it tight, now pull the boat and trailer out of the water.

    4:12. Captain manages to snatch Failure from the jaws of Success. All he needed to do was keep astern for another one or two seconds. His helper then ties off his line on a cleat or bollard. Captain then goes slow ahead on Sbd engine. The boat will pull into the dock and sit there all day as long as the motor is slow ahead. It's almost as easy as falling off a log. I dunno what makes these Captains so obsessed with lines from the bow. They aren't much use on their own.

    These Boat ramps should have "ramp Officers" during the hours of operation.
    Their mere presence would help the Safety of the ramp.

    That was crazy dangerous with that kid! If he bump that into gear or slammed it forward someone could get killed. The kid was raising and lowering it and the captain put it in gear so for sure it was running

    Blows my mind how many people dont carry a boat hook on a boat. You dont need to bring it right up to the dock in windy weather. You can be 10 foot away and just grab it with the hook.

    ‘’She’s waiting for something to go wrong’’ way too many people have this mindset and if you meet someone like this, avoid all contact.
    These people are energy drainers.

      I don't have any experience with this size boats, but where I grew up and was boating with my parents if you see it coming, you grab a hook and be ready to intervene. My dad always had a hook on a long pole ready to intervene when necessary. It would also help to pull in the boat when you end up in a situation like the boat in the video, where they have to be helped by the jetski.
