Good to have you back Rick!
Didn't really go anywhere, just busy with life stuff. Thanks for all of your support.
@@RickLawlerPropaganda I know - but we come accustomed to great weekly content....! No pressure though, I just very much enjoy your output.
Your the man Rick!…thanks again with all the help with my Sheridan pictures. Wes
Wes, glad to have the opportunity to work with you.
@@RickLawlerPropaganda thanks rick
Fired one at a drone for gunnery in early 1980s. It was a blast! 263rd ADA, SC Guard
Next time you do that...I'm open. Just sayin' Thanks for watching.
You did a great job. Got a warm spot in my heart for the old dusters as I was in a duster unit back in the late 70s.
I'm always intimidated when building something that someone like you have served upon. Your comment makes me happy. Thanks for your comment, and service.
Really enjoyed the weathering - thanks for sharing
thanks, Ralph.
Hi Rick. So nice good and interesting model and book. Ciao
Good stuff as always Rick. Welcome back!
Thank you kindly! My friend.
Rick, looks great. One suggestion. Although I never worked on one of those beasts, over there (I was in M113's), I believe those big air filter tubs would have been cleaned, constantly, especially under the dusty conditions. A good NCO would have made sure... And you're so good at representing crew movements on your vehicles. Those things should show evidence... Ralph
Thanks for the tip
Really liké thé weathering with oil, with all the subtil colors of dust, thats really awesome
Thank you very much!
I just found your channel and I'm looking forward to watching some other project builds. I like your short summary approach to project builds. Just enough information and demonstration to get the point. Very nice job on the Duster build.
Awesome, thank you!
Love to see this from you Rick! My uncle had an old story about his friend. His buddy’s duster had a VC skull over the headlight.
There are some pictures in the book of a vehicle with something like that...I wonder if it is the same?
Sublime, as always. Always learn something from your videos Rick. Thank you.
Very welcome
Love Vietnam war subjects🙂 True inspiration. I just wish somebody would build a gun truck. I have books and kits in my stash... all I need is the time to build them!😂
Maybe? Someday? Take care.
Great inspiration as usual Rick!! Keep up the great content!!!
Thanks! Will do!
You make it look so easy and effortless. Kudos on sticking with the kit supplied rubber band tracks and actual pulling them off to look good!
Look forward to see what kind of base you come up with to add this model to.
thanks..yea, that base. We'll see. I have an idea or two, but also some other projects that I need to get to as well.
Very nice subject. I like the application of grime and dirt, coated with some dust and Vietnam mud. ✨👍✨
Thank you! Cheers! I'm happy that you found something that perhaps you can use on your projects
Wow, gonna take a minute to weather like that ,just amazing details, thank you for paying respect to us veterans, salute to you my friend...
Much appreciated. Thank you for your service. I'm glad that you enjoyed the video.
Looks very good out of the box project! I rarely buy anything extra, sometimes make something from scratch / add from bits box. Your end result is just amazing.
Thanks. For me it was good to do an OTB build, I sometimes forget how nice kits really can be without all of the added bling. Thanks for watching and commenting.
I love a great simple out of the box build video like this. Really seems doable to an average joe modeller.
It really is! Nothing very fancy here. Glad you enjoyed the video
Hi Rick, that was a truly excellent build and westhering job on the Duster, not a kit you see a lot of in competitions, well done my friend, very bedg regards from Australia 👍👍👍👍
Thanks 👍 Glad to have you aboard.
I think it's brilliant Rick, the dark color scheme and matching well applied dirt looks like the original
Thank you, Uwe.
Looks great!
Thanks!
Great job!
Thanks!
awesome.very well done.👍🙂
Thank you! Cheers!
Very nice job. Doesn't the AK Interactive book: US Armor in Vietnam have more info on the m42 Duster than the Artillery book?
It might, I don't have a copy of the US Armor book to compare
Amazing. I thought at times the stills of your model were actually photographs from the book. Wow.
Thank you. Your comment is very high praise...thank you.
Awesome build. Just found the channel and subscribed. Do you ever use gloss or flat coats before your weathering steps?
Thanks for the subscribe, I'm glad that you found the channel. I generally do not add any sort varnish.
Great subject and video thank you Rick !!
Glad you enjoyed it
Looks cool.
thank you.
Vietnam vet. Well done.
Thank you, and thank you for your service. Your comment has weight, and I appreciate it.
Hey Rick - what a great video. Apologies if i missed it but can you confirm all the oil colours you used on your pallet there? I saw the Abt 502 dust, olive green…but missed the others. Cheers, Nick.
Oh, let's see. I also used Light Grey (kind of a bluish color), Faded Green, Shadow Brown, Ghost Grey and I think I added Ochre towards the end to enhance some of the fuel stains. The earth colors are for the "environmental" weathering, the greens and such are to add fading or interest to the base color.
@@RickLawlerPropaganda thanks Rick!
Nice👍👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Man I hate that color plastic! Hey Rick I started a channel lol
I checked it out...nice. I hope you have fun with it.
🤝🎥👍
thank you!
Quack quack (no one will get it)
You are correct...no idea.
Outstanding work.
When you were blending the dusty oil paints, did you use a completely dry brush, or damp with thinner?
I believe he applies the oils with a damp brush and blends them out with a dry brush. While he's blending, he wipes off excess oil (that accumulates in the dry brush...filling up with oil as he goes along) on a paper towel to remove excess oil...then blends more, till he gets the look he wants. It's about impossible to get a nice blend while the oils are wet.
So, what I'm looking for when using the oils is the "sweet spot", the point when the oils have leached out the linseed onto the cardboard, and the consistency of the paints are something like butter. At this point just use the oils off of the palette, and then blend with a soft, dry brush. Now...this can change both over time, and upon the desired effects. Over time, the oils will become more dry and so it will be necessary to add a bit of thinner to the brush, mix it into the paints to regain the butter. Secondly, thinners are used to create different effects...for instance...if I want a light, dusty effect I will thin the oils to something like a wash, or I can blend using a moist brush to created different types of blends. It really isn't difficult, just takes a bit of practice and it all really becomes second nature.
