The remake is amazing and Bill did a good job at being terrifying but people need to stop saying he is better when he hardly had any screen time at all, no one can hold a candle to tim curry and thats a fact!
I am aware and i am speaking for the part 1 of the remake so i wont judge too much till part 2 comes out but compared to the original, tim was the bigger star than the kids themselves whereas the new one focused mainly on the kids, also i didnt like the fact bills version was scary on sight, not exactly alluring to kids when its job is to feed on them, tims it was scarier imo because it was jolly on sight and when it transformed into something terrifying, it haunted you more
Josh Souleater It shouldn't look scary on sight. If it actually wants to catch kids it's disguise should be believable, not have a demonic look right off the bat.
Skarsgård did an amazing job too, people like me just hold Tim Curry's pennywise close to heart cause most of us were young when it came out & its nostalgia.
He's the only thing that keeps this movie alive. It was groundbreaking for it's time, being the first film to show such a significant amount of blood on television, and Tim Curry is fucking I-CON-IC in this role. Joshua Mattel yeah the mini series did not age well, I saw it for the first time a few days ago and it was just kind of dull when Pennywise wasn't around but I have no doubt that when it came out it was the thing to see and the thing to talk about.

A part of the new Pennywise (Bill's) that I really liked was the way they nailed his unpredictability and the fact that he was really just "attempting" to act like a clown, whereas Curry's version actually seemed like a clown. The scene where this sticks out to me is when he's talking to Georgie and he sorta forgets the clown persona he's trying to put on for a moment as he stares at Georgie with a creepy, hunger-driven look almost as if he's drooling at him in a trance. Just shows how creepy his luring techniques are, and what he's actually thinking behind that smile..

Joshua Mattel I have to disagree. The movie just has the basic outline of the children portions of the novel. As someone who read the book I hated the treatment of Mike Hanlon. Still a great film but the miniseries was actually closer to the novel.
Wes Stewart the mini series was most definitely NOT closer to the novel. Only way is the storytelling part of going back and forth between multiple timelines. And tim currys pennywise is so far from the book version, it's not even a competition. It isnt a creepy killer clown. It is a demonic entity from another universe that tries to act human, taking the form of a clown, but fails miserably. Like the new version. There is absolutely nothing funny about It in the novel. The mini series was a joke, nothing more than a cheesy soap opera filled with stars of that era. They need to remake "the stand" and "the langoliers", as well, since those 2 were also completely butchered.
zimvader25 Whatever dude. I thought it was awesome. It was pretty damn scary considering the fact that it was on ABC in 1990. The miniseries streamlined the primary story and it worked. If you don't like it, fine. But don't disregard Tim Curry because you don't think he was accurate.
I saw the new version and something about the new clown was so inhuman it just wasnt as scary at times. Those kids were also 10x more badass than the ones from the miniseries.

Olivier Bertrand Olivier Bertrand You're actually right, coming from someone who has read the book... I think overall, Skarsgard had the right idea and ultimately killed it (in a good way lol) but Curry was much better at manipulation/being more human-ish at times.
Like in the novel. Tim curry put on a good daytime made for tv performance, but his "It" wasnt even close to the novel. In the novel there is nothing human about "it". It tries to act human taking the form of a clown, but fails and just comes across as a demon TRYING to act like a clown. Not actually acting like one, as curry played him.
Fair point. It felt like the cockroach from MIB wearing the skin of a guy. I guess it wouldn't cut it now even if "It" was a thing, kids would flip it off and walk away.
This freaked me out as a kid so damned much I can't even explain. I feel like the producers told Tim Curry to be "a scary clown" and he heard "please terrify an entire generation with endless nightmare fuel," and he was all, like, "okay then hold my beer..."
Stinky Bacon that's what is wrong with it. It looks scarier. This pennywise actually looks like a clown, which is why Tim Curry's Pennywise is actually scarier. With the new Pennywise, you obviously know that the clown is a murderer and literally looks like the work of the Devil. The 1990 Pennywise looks like your ordinary clown, which is much more scary and unsettling if you ask me
Life Hacks UA-cam Dude with the Rock Well, 2017 Pennywise’s attire is literally what clowns looked like in Elizabethan Times. Also, how is a clown supposed to scare you? Pennywise wants to scare you before he eats you, otherwise he doesn’t have much power over you. How is him making jokes about a balloon supposed to make me scared?
Bloo95 it's unsettling and out of the norm. That's why it's scarier. It's something that's not supposed to be scary, but is. The design for the 2017 movie looks like a demon. It looks scary and it is scary, but it is not as scary as the original Pennywise
I hate how since the remakes came out, SO MANY people just want to trash this movie now. I've loved this movie since I was like 4 or 5 years old and I just can't believe all the hate it gets. All i can think is, "To hell with that scummy nonsense from others. I don't go on Remake videos and trash those movies, why is that happening here on miniseries videos?" I just will never understand that.
#3 (4:16) From what I understand from looking into the lore of IT - having never read the book or seen either adaptation due to being a wuss when it comes to horror - this scene actually alludes to the fact that IT is a primordial being presumably older than the universe itself, and that the human mind can't comprehend It's true appearance.
digifreak90 yep, the book even says that right before Georgie died, that Pennywise changed his form, and what Georgie saw broke his mind. And the end of the book dedicates a few chapters to the perspective of IT, which are very insightful into its true nature.
digifreak90 you haven't seen either. One? What have you been doing for the past forever? Not even read the book? But you watched the lore? So many questions
Has anyone ever seen the mini-series Storm of the Century? I remember every line said by Andre Linoge played by Colm Feore. “By and large, the good is an illusion. Little fables folks tell themselves so they can get through their days without screaming too much. Your town is full of adulterers, pedophiles, thieves, gluttons, murderers, bullies, scoundrels, and covetous morons. I know every last one of them. Born in lust, turn to dust. Born in sin, COME ON IN.”
There's a rumor that he actually was supposed to be the voice of Joker but he got sick and they replaced him with Mark. WhatCulture has the video about it if you want to look it up.
idius11 if I remember correctly Tim Curry was approached to voice the joker but he was deemed too scary for the kids so Mark Hamil voiced him which I don't know ow if that's any less scary to be honest.
"You grow up, you stop believing." I always (believed) that's why I will always consider this movie scary. Plus the music adds a very creepy atmosphere, for me anyway.
Tim curry didnt try so hard, that's what made it scary. Its as close to the real thing if pennywise did exist. Not all of that taunting, cgi, bullshit. I will take 90s subtle mature horror over jumpscares and running at the camera any day. If only we had the technology to do the 1990 film the way it was done now, but with Tim Curry, would have been perfect. Also why does pennywise in the new movie look and sound like bugs bunny half the time?
Tim Curry was fantastic for his generation, but to watch it nowadays, it's just comical & dated. Bill Skarsgård has done a brilliant job & made this role his own, the movie has moved on with the times & stayed true to it's horror. Both are great for what they are.
Livy Avalon which is exactly how pennywise should be. It isn't a demonic killer clown, like curry played it. It is a demonic entity from another universe that tries and fails miserably at acting human by taking the form of a clown. There is absolutely nothing human about the book pennywise. At all.
Oliver James McGregor did you just insult and praise the original in the same sentence? That's retarded the movie will never be as good as the miniseries as the movie was more modern horror than a Steven king novel try again
mysterious stranger that's a matter of opinion & you're entitled to it, but personally, if given the choice between original & modern... I'd choose the modern version every time as it appeals to me more.
Oliver James McGregor I was hoping Bill's had more dimension to the clown. His sewer scene was brilliant but the rest not so much. Just a bunch of jump scares and screaming. The projector seen would of been amazing if he would of at least cackled in laughter but NO just a silent jump scare while the kids did the screaming.
I really didn't like how Pennywise was portrayed in the new movie. In the 2017 version, Pennywise came across as a dumb animal who only eats kids out of necessity. Pennywise was constantly goofy and never really appeared to have any thoughts beyond instinct to eat. You couldn't tell if Pennywise was ever pissed off or scared or anything, only if he was hungry. Also its deadlights form looked so underwhelming and was like a couple of floating orange dots. At least Tim Curry lulled you into a false sense of security with his humor before suddenly turning all evil and killing you. Like when he kills the girl on the tricycle or kills Georgie, he suddenly turns mean and sinister, whereas Skarsgard's Pennywise was still smiling even as he was biting down on someone. Curry actually made IT out to be a calculating evil being with actual thoughts. Also, Tim Curry's deadlights form was WAY better. Compare how he floats around as Deadlights in the sewer and sucks up and eats Belch and turns Henry Bowers crazy in the 1990 version to the pathetic deadlights Pennywise showed in the new movie. Seriously, the new Pennywise is so overhyped it isn't funny. Tim Curry was way better as Pennywise on film. Also, wth was with the movie kills being censored? It's only an R rating because Eddie and Richie make dick measuring jokes and say the F word a lot. The kills in the movie are practically just as censored as the 1990 minseries version.
DerekWilderGAMES I also didn't like that the time was changed to the 80s instead of the 50s/early 60s. Henry Bowers being a greaser kid> the white trash version.
IT is a predatory, trans-dimensional demon that pretends to be human and fails miserably at doing so. Also, are you really trying to say the 2017 film that opened with a young kid having his arm ripped off is as censored as a film that faded away from any scene when Pennywise began to show his teeth?
Joe morgan Because fake crying, getting his butt kicked the entire movie, and dancing a jig on a circus stage really makes for a scary entity. For an R rated adaptation that's supposed to be scary, it fails in all levels.
MrGamer 2023 Really? The miniseries wasn’t that good. But it wasn’t supposed to be it was an ABC special Tim Curry may have just over performed for this role. Ha maybe hes just too good. The new Pennywise couldn’t pull off the so funny its scary thing like the old one could but the miniseries as a whole is kind of doo doo.
Tim Curry didn't have CGI to help him play the character. The new version used heavy CGI and when it wasn't using CGI, it just looked like a normal guy dressed as a clown which was a big difference from how he looked at other parts of the film. I'll take the Curry version.
TheRage1581 because cgi was absolute shit in 1990. Tim curry was really good but the rest of the movie was terrible compared to the new one. This new one is also more based on the original book
I always look at that moment as Georgie gave him a new "catch phrase" sort of thing and Pennywise was just happy about it. And them kills him of course.
zimvader25 Disagree. I reckon the maniacal mirth Curry imbued Pennywise with was more true to the book. In the book It enjoyed itself immensely when it was scaring the bejabbers out of the kids. I love the new movie, and Skarsgard did a great job, but the insane mix of humour and pathos from Curry is far more unpredictable and terrifying.
Macdaddyrick123 the 90s miniseries is just a terrible cheesy soap, with terrible cheesy soap acting. The kid actors of the miniseries were just absolutely awful. Specially Georgie
This the kind of content I like to see 👌Recently saw a video that said something like "reasons the new Pennywise will make you FORGET Tim Curry's Pennywise" Like no, fck off with that negativity, both actors did a really good job. But I'll always choose Tim Curry cause my childhood, man.
Both actors did an amazing job with their interpretation of PennyWise. People also need to keep in mind an R rated movie adaption is going to have way more space to creatively play with than a two night TV adaption, which is heavily censored, due to the moral filters of the time. Plus, CGI has come a long way since the to adaption...but kudos to both the actors. Each one entertained, and creeped out, their viewing audience.
Tim Curry's pennywise is like jack nicklsons joker twisted campy, upbeat, corny humor. bill skargards Pennywise is like Heath ledgers joker more gritty, unpredictable, darker with ocasional dark humor that's meant to terrify

I say Tim Curry was like Jack Nicholsin as joker and Bill Skarsgard was like Heath Ledger. Not better just different.
TheTatermeister Yes!!!
Bill made me cringe with every line in his dialogue he reminded me of lex luthor in the batman vs superman movie.
Sure a great clown whatever. But we can never forget how good he was as Concierge service in home alone 2.
Bridgeville Bulldawgz58 there is far more than that to Tim curry he's a legend
mysterious stranger oh I understand
And in that one he is scared away by a pool inflatable clown quite ironic
Whatsa Matta! Store wouldn't take your stolen credit caard?
I can tell Tim Curry was having fun, doing this. After all, he does love to play villains. He finds it to be more liberating.
This freaked me out as a kid so damned much I can't even explain. I feel like the producers told Tim Curry to be "a scary clown" and he heard "please terrify an entire generation with endless nightmare fuel," and he was all, like, "okay then hold my beer..."
They both did their parts well but I did prefer the original since he was comical but also creepy
Pate Gaming sorry but no
The new pennywise is wayyyyyy scarier by so much
Just leave the nostalgia and embrace the new
Stinky Bacon that's what is wrong with it. It looks scarier. This pennywise actually looks like a clown, which is why Tim Curry's Pennywise is actually scarier. With the new Pennywise, you obviously know that the clown is a murderer and literally looks like the work of the Devil. The 1990 Pennywise looks like your ordinary clown, which is much more scary and unsettling if you ask me
Pate Gaming. Yeah Tim can go from being funny to being terrifying, which will catch you off guard.
3:18 the moment that scared the ever living crap outta me at 7 years old and became my favorite horror film
And the end of the book dedicates a few chapters to the perspective of IT, which are very insightful into its true nature.
digifreak90 I've heard he's a multi dimensional being
digifreak90 correctamendo!
He was in Derry before Derry was Derry.
digifreak90 you haven't seen either. One? What have you been doing for the past forever? Not even read the book? But you watched the lore? So many questions
"A Little Young Fore Yea Ayee Richiiee?!?"
Nick Mattio *WAHA WAHA WAHA WAHA WAHA*
This is why I'm subscribed to your channel...
Karma Queen And we love you for it, broham.
Bill Skarsgard is good, but Tim Curry's Pennywise still haunts my dreams.
Both guys who played Pennywise did an excellent job.
I agree I would rather them be both unique in there own way (which they were) then be the same I love them both
Has anyone ever seen the mini-series Storm of the Century? I remember every line said by Andre Linoge played by Colm Feore.
“By and large, the good is an illusion. Little fables folks tell themselves so they can get through their days without screaming too much. Your town is full of adulterers, pedophiles, thieves, gluttons, murderers, bullies, scoundrels, and covetous morons. I know every last one of them. Born in lust, turn to dust. Born in sin, COME ON IN.”
I loved it because my mother enjoyed so much. It was great
Gabriel Bryant Give me what I want and I go away.......
I loved it too
Gabriel Bryant watched it and read the book
Gabriel Bryant I love storm of the century one of my favorites damn now I want to watch it again 😆
I loved both versions. Tim Curry's Pennywise was funny yet creepy
2:29 "Oh look, it's a beautiful Tim Curry tonigh--AAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
"Excuse me, sir. Do you have Prince Albert in a can? You do?! Well, you better let the poor guy out! WAH HEH WAH HEH WAH HEH!!!"
Never gets old. :D
Tim Curry should have played The Joker in Batman The Animated Series Hamil is good but he could have nailed it as well
There's a rumor that he actually was supposed to be the voice of Joker but he got sick and they replaced him with Mark. WhatCulture has the video about it if you want to look it up.
idius11 if I remember correctly Tim Curry was approached to voice the joker but he was deemed too scary for the kids so Mark Hamil voiced him which I don't know ow if that's any less scary to be honest.
At the Canada expo the other day Tim Curry said himself that he got bronchitis and they fired him for Mark.
J Double C no hamil is the only joker you speak blastphomy against the joker shame on you Tim curry or not the joker could not be replaced
mysterious stranger let's not forget mark hamil played the role of Luke Skywalker for years
Pennywise was having a fun time up there
Tim Curry was just having so much fun here
Both were great! Tim Curry is a legend and what he did was pretty amazing.
Tim curry forever! !!! The only one the original and the best! ❤
Tim Curry anyday 👍 got to have scary and humor to it. Can't be all dull
Tim Curry was amazing as Pennywise .. He owned it ....
BRILLIANT,. goosebumps at every scene. and that after seeing the film 8 times or more
Tim Curry was brilliant in anything!
This movie terrified me as a kid. I was obsessed with IT ever since.
Brilliant acting by tim curry he is very scary in the part of Pennywise.
Everything about IT will forever hold a place in my heart. That's what it comes down to ... for me
wow, i really thought this movie was scary?
Cory F the showers scene freaked the f*ck out of me as a kid.
"You grow up, you stop believing." I always (believed) that's why I will always consider this movie scary. Plus the music adds a very creepy atmosphere, for me anyway.
Never lose the fear. You stop appreciating greatness. Watch it alone in the dark with headphones and he will still scare you
#6 scared me so much when I was a kid that my mum had to sit in the bathroom while I showered for a month
CuriousPirate There was only like 3 jumpscares. For a horror movies nowadays that's the perfect amount.
mature???? ba ha ha!! oh thats hilarious
the new movie was absolute dogshit compared to this...
Fake News 😂🤣😂🤣😅😂🤣😅😅🤣🤣 that's the funniest thing I've read all week.. thanks for the lols
cattyfinns funniest part is it's true
The way he says girly boy and does that wave thing is priceless, I lol every time
I love this one & the new one!
I freaking love him.
Tim Curry was fantastic for his generation, but to watch it nowadays, it's just comical & dated.
Bill Skarsgård has done a brilliant job & made this role his own, the movie has moved on with the times & stayed true to it's horror.
Both are great for what they are.
Oliver James McGregor for me Bill's Pennywise mainly screamed in laughter with no really complete sentences aside from the opening scene. Oh well.
"Damnit Bev is that you or the clown?!" Ooooh Pennywise gets around...
The old Pennywise had much more depth to it's character. The 2017 version was just based around jumpscares and CGI.
Fortune FOH.
Fortune Have you seen the film? The film only had 3 jumpscares.
Fortune The old one uses stop motion. Not much better than cgi imo
Fortune the film barley had any jumps cares and cgi lol
Fortune it had barely any jump scares, have you even watched the film?
I love the scene at 5:12-5:33 His smile is extremely contagious & adorable
So comical I fucking love it
Hannah Eyre but if any of this actually happened in real life I suspect you'd be terrified beyond belief.
His voice, movements, facial expressions, amazing Actor!!!!👏👏👏
DerekWilderGAMES I literally couldn't have said it better myself you hit the nail on the head perfectly BEST COMMENT!!!! 👍👍
DerekWilderGAMES I also didn't like that the time was changed to the 80s instead of the 50s/early 60s. Henry Bowers being a greaser kid> the white trash version.
DerekWilderGAMES no sweetie. THE BOOK is and always will be the best portrayal of Pennywise.
" Take your pick except for the one at the end. Thats already taken ". Lol I love that part
IT 2017 was the better film. How ever Tim Cury is the better Pennywise.
Dirk B I guess I half agree with that statement
Dirk B agreed
No 1990 is the best
MrGamer 2023 Really? The miniseries wasn’t that good. But it wasn’t supposed to be it was an ABC special Tim Curry may have just over performed for this role. Ha maybe hes just too good. The new Pennywise couldn’t pull off the so funny its scary thing like the old one could but the miniseries as a whole is kind of doo doo.
Dirk B hahha no bill was bettee
Idk but personally I find the newer pennywise scary for some reason. The old one is just kinda adorable to me, especially in 5:20
legend
Tim Curry was the best! I loved his performances!
Who needs the New It movie? When you have Tim Curry!!!
Perfect Tim Curry character ever!
How did they make his eyes so bloodshot in the sewer scene?
Palpatine Probably marijuana
Palpatine they said it was cause of all the make up that his eyes were irritated
Palpatine IDK but it's awesome
Red contact lenses like they did for christopher lee when he was dracula
I LOVE HIS HAIR! I LOVE IT!!!!
BEEP BEEP RICHIE!!!!!!
"Can't sleep clown will eat me!" "Can't sleep clown will eat me!" "Can't sleep clown will eat me!"
He WAS Brilliant!
He WAS Entertaining!
And FUN to watch!
Hiya Georgie!!!!
Pure genious. A seen the new one last night, all those CGI are no match for Tim's acting
I don't get why Georgie asked if the balloons float? Uhhh Yeah balloons tend to do that.
his expression in his eyes and everything when he said (oh yes they float) is really creepy! he showed true hunger right there
I always look at that moment as Georgie gave him a new "catch phrase" sort of thing and Pennywise was just happy about it. And them kills him of course.
No one will ever out Pennywise Tim Curry.
Harlequill Agreed.
I agree. Tim is brilliant in this role. And in many other roles too, since we are on the subject.
Someone just did. Read the book. Tim curry is nothing like the It from the novel.
zimvader25 Disagree.
Specially Georgie
the library scene and the head in thd fridge were funny af! LOL xD
Although Skarsgård's Pennywise is a lot scarier today, there's just a certain charm to Curry's portrayal that I adore.
I'm still terrified of walking past storm drains even to this day.
now there is no reason to go back and watch the miniseries version. this video contains all the good parts. save yourself a few hours!
The library scene was just too funny
there's only one pennywise tc
yep - bill skarsgaard
cattyfinns he was good but can't compare to Tim curry
Yeah I strongly disagree.. imo curry was hammy and quite ridiculous.. not scary at all
cattyfinns he's ment to be that way to trick children. the other one is to monstrous.
He's not meant to lure them he's meant to scare them as he feeds off fear
How'd you forget the CLASSIC..."Dontcha want it? Dontcha want it? DONTCHA WANT IT?!"
Tim Curry's pennywise is like jack nicklsons joker twisted campy, upbeat, corny humor. bill skargards Pennywise is like Heath ledgers joker more gritty, unpredictable, darker with ocasional dark humor that's meant to terrify
What a comedic performance 😄 I laughed at the new It the whole time.
