Showing up in an expensive car while wearing expensive clothes and jewelry gives me the impression that I'm being charged too much for the work I need.
The same goes for landscaping as a previous comment stated.

To your point, when we had to hire a landscaper, we ended up booking the guy who was really nice and had lots of good ideas, and showed up in a nice truck and dressed like a guy who does landscaping. We didn't hire another guy who showed up in an expensive car who wasn't remotely dressed like a landscaper (was wearing a comic book tshirt and an expensive watch), and clearly didn't have any personal experience doing landscaping work himself. Appearance does matter sometimes.

Hmmm ... a hard argument to concede but ... definitely some truth to this ... you get hired by people who either like you or who readily see that they can use you.

I feel these points are valid, at the same time they may be true for the luxury market. Outside that luxury market people are not looking to top their neighbor’s wedding or be more flashy or glamorous. The majority of people will never book a luxury wedding or a luxury wedding photographer. It’s so easy to lose sight of reality when the whole wedding photography industry is a luxury market that doesn’t apply to most people.
For the luxury clients though your analysis is sport on!
