I don't think the visor up top is just to block out sun though, it's got other safety purposes so it may not be very dispensable in that regard@Blackout_CDXX
No, No, No!! there are three main reasons to justify the shape of an offroad helmet! 1st of course is to prevent the sun to blind you, but not so much inside the trees, switching dark or sunny spots, ruther than riding uphill and having the sun straight into your eyes! 2nd reason and most desirable, is that the shape of the offroad sunvisor in cooperation with the helmet chin wich are quite far from your face, they are preventing the branches of the trees to hit you directly on your eyes and your face. it works like a splitter. 3rd reason is, when you have another bike in dirt in front of you and this bike accelerates, you can decline your head instantaneously and use your sunvisor as a shield to prevent some rocks to hit you on the face directly. also the chin has this pointy shape to recochet the rocks better. sorry for my english,is not my mother language.
The peak on a dirt helmet isn't for sun protection, it is for guarding the rider from roost thrown up by riders in front of them. When a rider in front of you throws up some mud and crap, you put your head down to catch that on the peak so you can still see through your goggles. A lot of adventure riders use a 'dual sport' helmet with a peak thinking it's for sun protection, but for them, the peak is just marketing to sell them a 'special' helmet, lol.
It's actually really good for low sun. And you use it for small tree branches and bushes ect, same deal as roost- head down to protect face/ stop lens getting scratched
I recently switched to MX helmet and goggles for supermoto. I set my Full Face aside and washed the liners. Today I tried on the Full Face for a bit of fun and I don't miss it at all. Perhaps if I race a 1000 I'll get the Full Face out again. but for now, goggles all the way.
I'm struggling with this choice. Dunno what to do. Temperatures here range from 5-30 celsius with all conditions. I don't mind getting wet etc and the decreased weight and increased ventilation appeal to me. I would also be in the city... it seems like the right move but I'm worried about getting too cold. Any thoughts?
The front shield of the dirt bike helmet is also to protect your face and goggles from roost. Just look down to avoid getting hit in the face by mud or rocks
Yeah I bought $79 full face motorcycle helmet. I race indoor go karts a few times a year and I want to get back into ATV again. It's DOT approved and it' all I really need. I had no access to a helmet when I rode a Honda ATC and I definitely want to be prepared next time just so I can be safe.
I have a Tenere 700 and ride 50/50 on paved roads and dirt roads. I prefer a street helmet. No problem with dust, rain or wind and the helmet has an integrated sun visor.
All true & Dirt bike helmets are a pointer shape at front , as to turn the head sideways, on forward impact , chin bar & visor /peak collapse reducing impact forces .
I ride an hour highway (I-95) each way, to work and back daily, at about 80mph (limit here is 70, yet I still get left in the dust frequently). My f700GS has an 'upright' position. My Bell is a race helmet, but my neck doesn't love the strain of wind buffeting when not tucked. When tucked I can't use the mirrors. Am I just screwed or does anyone have advice? Thanks from Daytona Beach, Florida.
I wear glasses so a street helmet is best for me off-road since i can just raise the visor a bit if it fogs up. I only do trails no tracks so no worry of roosters.
Actually sunvisor is there couse dust kicks up onto your googles, and when sut hits them you cant see... so you adjust your head so the peer blocks the sun.
I see so many people using a dirt bike helmet while touring on adv bikes, which to me doesn't make any sense. I mean if they're on the highway why wear a dirt bike helmet?
I like the offroad helmets better but the only issue is that the visor is a real pain when riding on road. The wind pushes your head back because of the visor and needs to be removed. It is really tough on your neck.
ADV helmets have both sun visor (vs face sheild)AND reguar flip down fce SHIELD (as opposed to VISOR) Now the REAL reason for visors on dirtbike helmets motocross in particular was ro deflect ROOST! yes works for sun to bah blah but ROOST will fricken runin your day! Wherer is it loamy mud or dirtclds with hungks of gravel you NEED a visor! Only motocross racers univerically know their worth and purpose,,everyone ese is guessing
It depends, if you go slow most of the time, its not silly to use offroad kind of helmet. Its easier to breathe while still a full face helmet. Especially if you can find one with integrated visor
mountain bike full face helmet tons on ventilation and most likely under 2 lbs u don't even know u have it on. really good fo daily long distance driving.. downsides don't look as cool :(
I would agree, but the ventilation is nice, no fogging and u can always breathe and be nice and cool, the only real downside is the wind drag at speed and the wind sound. If u had to choose 1, I’d say the street bike helmet is probably slightly a better option, unless u go city speeds alot, and where u live is mostly hot
I love the look of off-road helmets

You know very much.
You should start your own youtube channel.
Obviously a big visor guy.
@@jimlee3725 Maybe he doesnt want his own you tube channel but he,s right .The op makes good points but sadly misses a lot..
All good on the English except "instantaneously"... Many people say this but they are all wrong. The word of choice is "instantly "
@@GreatBirdOfHopeare you indian ?
The motocross visor is for protection against flying debris, branches, etc.
Yup for roost and mud protection and to stop direct impacts to the face. No one cares about the sun ;)
Exactly. If you show up on a MX track with rooster down, so it blocks view- everyone knows- new guy on a track.
@@the_h15z Never ridden a track at sundown? With a visor still hard to see the track.
Why is it bad to use googles for that? And is it worth paying extra 60€ for the integrated visor?

Very much for sun .ever ride west before sunset? it is a must
Why is it called a sun visor
I'm not first im not last but when Mike on bikes posts I click fast
You're right. Looking at EUCs lately. I really needed to know that. There really is always something to learn. Thank you.

On the freeway is it annoying with goggles?
you cannot tell me what to do
*proceeds to drag race with off-road helmet

Almost completely perfect. need to talk about weight of the helmet in racing - especially dirtbike
I've been waiting all day for someone to upload good content
0:45 dude take you’re mouth guard off from your goggle haha😂😂
huh?
It's a nose guard but yea
I use a dual sport helmet, not as good as a street helmet at high speed with more buffeting but I seldom ride for hours on highways.
Short and helpful. Thanks for the upload
I hate the hassle of goggles I was considering wearing my street helmet as I can just flip the visor instead of struggling with goggles.
I just bought a street helmet for atv riding lol
The black sleekness of the street helmet is badass!
Also makes you invisible
Great stuff! A lot of people don't know the difference. Awesome stuff!! Love the videos and the info!

Lessons never stop...
Don't stop paying attention! Thanks Mike!
I dream of having the agv pista helmet. It's so extra expensive in India.
i am also from india, better to buy from online stores😂
The agv pista is expensive no matter where you buy from, that helmet costs a bomb!
good to know, thank you 🤙🏽
Video laid out very well. Good stuff.
Straight into the video... That's cool.. n nice Explanation
Which one is best for touring and safety point of view.. Dirt bike helmet OR ful face helmet as u showed both helmets on video .. 🤔
I have a Tenere 700 and ride 50/50 on paved roads and dirt roads. I prefer a street helmet. No problem with dust, rain or wind and the helmet has an integrated sun visor.
Idk bout the race vs street. Ty
Those all are good points, but weight could have been mentioned. Also the peak has a couple of other uses aswell, than just blocking out the sun.
This man about to get schooled on what roost is lol
All true & Dirt bike helmets are a pointer shape at front , as to turn the head sideways, on forward impact , chin bar & visor /peak collapse reducing impact forces .
you don't know jack about the "sun visor" on the dirt helmet man lol

I think they’re few helmets designed specifically for naked and upright bikes. Shoei nxr, Arai qv pro
I wear glasses so a street helmet is best for me off-road since i can just raise the visor a bit if it fogs up. I only do trails no tracks so no worry of roosters.
The visor is really about roost protection
I wore an aria street hamlet going off road a lot and basically it really doesn’t make a difference the dust doesn’t go in at all
Try riding a dusty motocross track at high speeds with other people in front of you and you’ll notice the difference
Good work!
I am looking for a helmet for my e scooter. Is an off road helmet a better option with prescription lenses?
Very informative video thank you 💯👍🏾🏍👍🏾💯👍🏾🏍👍🏾💯👍🏾🏍
I need a helmet for riding quad on street
Drifting is physical but I dont like those goggles... what should I buy?
Does the sun visor really work though? Lol
Actually sunvisor is there couse dust kicks up onto your googles, and when sut hits them you cant see... so you adjust your head so the peer blocks the sun.
THANK YOU , now I know!

Do you go to buttonwillow just to film episodes, or actually get some seat time in? lololol 🙏 thanks Mike!
Love from India 😍🔥
Does supermoto need turn signals?
I like the offroad helmets better but the only issue is that the visor is a real pain when riding on road.
The wind pushes your head back because of the visor and needs to be removed. It is really tough on your neck.
Nice bro
But the dust piles up all over the goggles. It’s a real dilemma.
I ride KTM adventure. 390 looking forward for a helmet does not have a peak
What kind of helmet is that white one ?
Bell
When you shooting video
On your camera HRD mode, bz destroyed your face in backlights
So pro 👍👍👍
Is there any noise while recording audio in off road helmets
air income is huge, so must be
It’s probably irrelevant to u now, but for anyone wondering, yes there’s way more noise, a lot more air flow but way louder
This type of helmet is there in Idaten jump
motorcross helmet is more better than road helmet from my experience
So wait I can wear an atv helmet at high speeds on the road and be just as safe as a motorcycle helmet?
Street helmet name ?
The one in video? I think it's an AGV Pista series

no way? it has also a visor right?
dust could get in from the vents and the bottom to the eyes
Does men wearing specs has difficulty wearing goggles helmets?
I use motorcycle helmet on my dirtbike. Better air flow and built in goggles
Noice.
Dirtbike helmets are lightweight...atleast most of em...
Hence proved that its silly to buy a dirt bike helmet for riding in the streets just because ur ride a dirt bike.
It depends, if you go slow most of the time, its not silly to use offroad kind of helmet. Its easier to breathe while still a full face helmet. Especially if you can find one with integrated visor

Why do gs riders wear goggles when they're mainly on the highway
Cause they look better 😏

"If you look at a steet bike helmet, it has no way to seal the outside environment from your eyes" . Ummm the visor does that job
