Caribou is an magician imo. He’s timeless music just makes me happy for decades, while being so „simple“. He probably learned some crazy algorithm for making bangers while studying mathematics. Remember seeing him on Radioheads in Rainbows tour in Germany. I was blown away by the drive of he’s music. Just couldn’t sit still😅
@@aminabelkh3659 yes one of the best lineups of my life. I mean In Rainbows and Swim are up there on the top for me. Timeless classics with a lot of great memories.

@@BrodieChree Correct… 20 years is two decades. You could even call it one score if you like. But it actually came out just over two decades ago. And you know what, I still miss it. That’s not a criticism of this song. It’s ok if this is your preference. I’m just saying that I miss that era of Caribou. A musician who’s talents have spread MORE THAN two decades, 20 years, one score or whatever measurement of time you’d like use.
@@douglasl2409 I too prefer the 2003-2007 era Caribou, thought that Swim got a little too four on the floory and then Our Love was even more dogmatically electronic. Suddenly was quite an interesting left turn towards the more avant-pop style songwriting, but the latest single releases indicates that another full on dance album is in the works. I guess one just has to accept that if Caribou does any non-dance music nowadays at all, it's whenever he feels like doing that, regardless of what the old school Caribou fans might wish for.
No reason to miss it, we still have it. I love it all from Manitoba to Caribou. It's pretty clear this band prefers house and garage to "indie rock". I really liked Manitoba's "Up in Flames" and Caribou's "Andorra", but I fell in love with Swim. I'm a lifelong electronic music lover, so it makes sense that Swim is what lit my fire.
I think Up in Flames might be my favorite Caribou release because of its mystical psychedelia, but I think people too easily assume that his later dance music is like phoned in or easy to make just because it's repetitive or because there are fewer stems in the recording. That is unfair to Dan because the level of ultimate craftsmanship has never left. He has always been about the perfectly-crafted mix. I listen to tracks like Daphni - Cloudy and I hear the absolutely impeccable mastering. The microtuning. The vivid sense of soundstage. The hi-hats entering 2/3rds of the way through the song that are so well recorded that I can almost see them. Not to mention that dance music, especially House, is all about those special feelings of unity and timelessness on the dance floor. It's emotional music. And as African musicians have known since time immemorial, repetition helps the dance become a trance. As a drummer I'm sure he's keyed into that.
I miss the start breaking my heart era… especially pauls birthday and mammals vs reptiles… but the name broke my heart does sound similar to the name start breaking my heart right?
Dude seriously, you used to make good music. The remix of pump up the volume tanked, & this is cheesy as hell. It could've been so much better knowing what you've done in the past.
I normally love Caribou, and the last album was some of the best work he’s done. This is really disappointing though, especially after how good the previous single was. I reckon if someone could change it from 45 to 33rpm it would sound a whole lot better.
What an appropriate title. Broken heart indeed.... Seriously, what in the everloving hell happened to Dan Snaith? A string of BRILLIANT albums (from UP IN FLAMES through to ANDORRA, and parts of SWIM) followed by.... this. This dross. Where t.f. is the *melody*? The actual *songcraft*? This is embarrassing trash. R.I.P. Caribou
Isn't my cup of tea either but I'm not sure he was making music specifically for you. Awkwardly though your formatting didn't work, do you want to try and resubmit the comment?
Different perspective here: first time im kinda excited about an electronic album in the last few years. Not because of this single specifically, but because of the general poppy/dancy direction and the fact that it is being made by a 'lauded' artist. Might have a mainstream taste though 😛
Damn, he put his whole Cariboussy into this one!
