YES! I would say that! @11:18 😆 You know me so well, Dave. Love your mom, too!
In my family quilts were only tied. My grandfather would go get a bundle of men's suits from the rag man and bring them home to my grandmother to make bedding out of. She would cut as big a piece as she could. Her objective was to keep her five children warm. My grandparents were poor and only had a wood stove for cooking and heating. I had one of those quilts until I had a house fire. My grandma was five foot two on a good day and she would hold a quilt up and go "that's long enough." My six foot two husband didn't think so!
Yay! I love Mom appearing on the show again! Great to see quilts from different generations.
What a treasure, the quilts and the history your Mom has about them. Shows why labels are so helpful.
If it's over 100 years old it's antique. Less than 100 years it's vintage. I ended up with one of my Grandmother's flimsies and finished the quilt. It was on my couch for years and then I gave it to my adult granddaughter last year. I found an unfinished quilt in my Mother;s stash that she was working on when she passed. I finished the blocks into two quilts for my Granddaughters. I labeled it with names and dates for both of us. Thanks for sharing your family quilts with us.
loved the wedding quilt and maybe even more the note. 5 gallons of honey, a saw and an applebox of canned food. So great 😂
Dave's craft mom is a dynamic episode co-host. I really enjoyed the two of you sharing these amazing quilts. ❤
Love the Overall Sam and Sunbonnet Sue quilts, but that triangle quilt has me swooning! The note is priceless! @25:56 Edit: The binding my have been replaced later when the original wore out.
Hi Dave's Craft Mom! How fortunate you guys are to have these great quilts in your family. Beautiful. Tongue pop transitions are the BEST Dave. Cracks me up every time.
Ohhhhh--love the butterflies and Irish chain. LOVE this video! Thank you, Dave and Dave's Mom!
Your mom is a natural in front of the camera. Love watching the two of you together!
I also have a 50 states embroidery quilt from my great grandmother! She embroidered all of the state flags and even included US territories at the time she made it.
I'm imagining that someday one of my grandchildren will be critiquing my quilts on the future version of UA-cam. Pointing out all my mistakes and guessing at my thinking processes!
They didn't wash quilts as we do today. However, they did sun and aired their quilts. The main reason was because they did not have an easy way to wash and dry quilts. Mother did not want us to sleep directly under her quilts without a sheet and a cotton flannel blanket between us and her quilts. We also were not supposed to sit on any quilts. Mother never bought any batting to use inside her quilts. She used old blankets, old winter underwear, old wool socks, and many other items for batting.
Check out museum flags sandwiched in glass. They are molding and rotting because condensation stays inside, moves between fabric and glass and gets yukky. Have spacer between front glass and fabric. Put breathable backing. Keep out of direct sunlight to keep mold at bay. Sew the fabric to a frame. Add new frame on top of that both sides. Leave space front and back. Or just tack it to a wall and let it be.
Watching now! I had to pause at 8 minutes to say I DO LOVE THAT ONE! Okay--watching more and will probably keep commenting. 😆
Hallo Muttie Dave aus Deutschland!!!!Regarding the the almost 200 year old quilt, any quilt museum would be happy to receive it. They would also preserve it and show it, too.
Lovely to watch you both looking over family quilts.
How wonderful to have a family history in quilts available to enjoy. I have one that my mother was given that has fabrics from the early 60s. I don't use it, but it is on display in my home. It reminds me of my mom. Thanks for sharing!
"Why is the butter flying?" 😂 That can be a quilt name.
Loved this walk down your family's Memory Lane! Currently, my whole life is revolving around the documentation process and completion of quilts started by my grandmother and several other generations even further back. If I don't take the time to do that right now, the information will be lost.
I have one heirloom quilt from the 1890s. It's binding consists of the raw edges of the quilt sandwiched between two pieces of 3/8" grosgrain ribbon, one ribbon on the front and the other on the back. I want to try using that method one day.
❤Kris would definitely enjoy this video. Beautiful vintage quilts! Even though I am not a fan of the tie quilting, they can still look great. Thank you both for sharing them.
Wonderful collection & fun to see you two together again!
Lovely to see Mom again!! ❤
What a collection of love. How lucky you are!!!
Mum is a joy to watch. Love the quilts. Love the butterfly one. It would be fun if you guys get an expert to look at them
Thanks for sharing your quilts and your mom….❤️
Dave and Mom! I was so excited to see that you posted another trunk show! So amazing and some lovely quilts. You are so adorable with your Mom when you started debating borders vs just make the quilt bigger. I enjoy all of your videos and look forward to the next one.
My Mom added a hand written label to our old quilts - and her own - with their history as was told to her by their owners. For example, my Grandparents wedding quilt, date and occasion, and maker. I’m so grateful for her wisdom in doing so now that it’s nearly a century old and she’s gott dementia. The history lives on and makes it more of a cherished heirloom as a result of knowing the story 🥰 Great video. You two are adorbs….
Hello Mom, great to see you and all your treasures. 🤗🤗🤗
Great show thanks mum and Dave😊
This is fantastic! Thank you for sharing your family quilt history! It was amazing to see those quilts. And the bloopers at the end were great! ❤❤❤
You two are adorable! Thank you for sharing that little piece of your story.
Nice trunk show! I have bound my quilts like the ones that didn’t have fabric binding by putting two edges together and sewn together. Goes fast & is easy. Love you & your mom! Thank you for sharing!
I’d find the 3 best Sams and the 3 best Sues and frame 3 sets of pairs. One for each sibling.
Loved this video. You and your mom are adorable together ❤️
The 50 states quilt is amazing , how about redo it , keep the blocks give it a new look , kind of makeover .
Love this video! And you and your Mom!
Great video, I love looking at old quilts. I’m half way through hand piecing a triangle quilt just like the one you showed. I’ll be sure to put a label on it 👍
Nice to meet your mother. Loved the old quilts! Thank you!
Thank you for the trunk show Dave and Dave’s Mom!
I loved the stories behind the quilts. There are no quilts in my family, they were not saved when they wore out. I make quilts for my family now, so in the far future their descendents will have stories 😊
This video made me promise to myself, put a label on all my quilts. As of now none do.
Wow Dave’s mum, that’s a wonderful story.
I hope you maybe sew labels on the ones you know the story.
My mom sewed our clothing when we were kids. Unfortunately she did not know about quilting. I learnt when I was 40 and first quilt I made was half hand and machine blocks. I’ve made over 30 since then. I spotted your moms 2 Ladoro pieces behind you and I have both. Bough5 mine when I lived in Rhodesia and I was 17 years old. Of course I still have mine. Making quilts for others is very hard as everyone has different tastes. Those are beautiful Victorian quilts.
😂😂it’s 2024 now😂😂
Beautiful quilts and memories
❤
Hello Dave and Dave’s Mom! This has been a treat!
Of all the quilts I’ve made-including baby and wedding quilts-I’ve only labelled one, and that’s my latest-a quilt that I donated to our local hospice. I’m self-taught and have never been a member of a guild. I don’t even have local friends who are quilters. I wasn’t even aware of the importance of labelling quilts until I started watching UA-cam creators during the pandemic.
Yes, Dave, you’re correct! They were originally called flutterbys!
Please, Dave’s Mom. We want to know how many triangles are in the quilt.
Thank you, and stay well!

I love the 30’s triangle quilt the best!!
This was really fun to watch! ❤❤❤
Beautiful quilts ❤
What a fabulous and funny trunk show you 2 get along so well together you should do video's more often 🎥 Hello Dave's Mum - greetings from across the pond 🌍
Yeah, definitely cut up some of those old quilts squares and frame them to make artwork out of!
I love when you guys collaborate. I’m sure your mom just loves that you appreciate quilts as much as she does! I also love that you still have your Christmas decorations up in May! (Just kidding-I know you shot this back during the holidays!) happy quilting!
OMG! Happy Mother's Day to Dave's Craft Mom!!! My mom got me hooked on this channel by showing me the Catzilla video. I think I watched it 15 times. The quilt is amazing and the story is SPELLBINDING. My mom was giggling a lot. 🥰
LoveDaves Mum! Im Australian so shes a mum
Thank you for sharing!
Loved the video, Kris O’Neill should analyze a few of them and see what lessons she can learn. U need to get together with her for a video!!!
thats a good idea and might be coming down the line 😉😜
Great idea for a video.
I have bought old quilts and they used old clothes sewn together for the batting.
Dave, please take note! Please put even a basic label on your quilts!
Folks in the future will thank you!❤❤❤❤
LOVE THIS !!!! Your Mom is delightful !!!!!
Thanks for sharing the rich history of quilting in your family. Great quilts are always accompanied by great stories.
Fascinating! The stories about them too!
These quilts are amazing. Could you not try and re-use some of the designs and put them in another quilt? If anyone could tackle it, it would be you.
How fun is that?!❤️💕💚👍🏻
Love this it was so interesting loved the history
Welcome to Dave’s mom
My sister and I went to school in dresses made out of feed sacks. Those dresses were comfortable and lasted a long time (and were handed down). My sister got my hand-me-downs; and, other family members got my sister's hand-me-downs.
This is spectacular. I love seeing all these quilts! You and your mother film so well together.
You are a lucky duck Dave! Your mom is fantastic! Loved the trunk show! Thank you so much!
This video is priceless-Your mom is a dear 🌷 Thank you for this video post
Dave, I love your Craft Mum
Fabulous
Btw I looked at the 50 states album, I like the font on OH best, kinda funky!❤
Great video!
How fun!!! Thanks for sharing this time with us! Great to see you again Dave’s Craft Mom.
We LOVE Dave's Craft Mom!
Thanks❤
❤ clap clap clap
It looked like the capital for PA was Philadelphia and not Harrisburg! And Louisiana had New Orleans marked and not Baton Rouge! Maybe the person who created the designs didn’t know all their state capitals? lol…. Love the state quilt and practically every other one too!
I had to double check with google maps but Baton Rouge and Harrisburg appear to be marked correctly to me 😜👨🏻 Philadelphia is on the far eastern border of PA and New Orleans is farther southeast :P
You lucky
🎉🎉🎉
❤
"They should come from the 1900s..."
Ouch.
lol surely we can't call a quilt from the 2000s "vintage," it has to be at *least* from the 1900s :P
