Nerf will make actual firearms before they make a half length dart blaster.
Edit: Yes, I'm aware they did make one, but it took them HOW LONG? Plus they haven't made one since the Stryfe X and the Stryfe X is a terrible value.

Why I'm not into gel blasters:
    1. Prep time. Most of my blasting is spur of the moment office-wars or messing with the neighbor's kids or helping them mess with their own blasters.
    2. Personal Preference/Mess. I just prefer to be smacked with darts or airsoft ammo than splatted. Don't want the gel/water in my face/clothes/skin.
    3. Accuracy. I enjoy the feeling of nailing a well-placed shot. All the gel blasters do the 'accuracy through volume' thing.
    4. Ammo types. In backyard games and such, we often come up with different rules for Mega Darts or shields or whatever for fun. Gel blasters only have one ammo type.

I'm not entirely sold on gel or airsoft because, like you said in (I believe) your Worst Of 2021 video, the big appeal of foam darts is the reusability of the ammo. I can collect all of my darts and use them again later after dumping a few magazines on a target. With gel or airsoft, I don't have that luxury.

To each their own; as much as I like foam flinging, I would honestly rather wait 3-4 hours to prep biodegradable gelsoft rounds than rummage around during/after every battle to pick up darts or foam balls.
My only real problem with gelsoft is that most of the blasters offered on the market are milsim/firearm replicas, which is really cool but can easily lead to a lot of misunderstandings, false alarms, and possibly even tragic accidents.

    • @jasonschwartz9481

@@theoutlawking9123 yeah. If I'm going to play nerf or gel it's going to usually be with a group of friends or my kids. So, we'll plan out the night before in many cases. For me, gel can be used with half length nerf though. Basically, a different weapon class. We'll use the $50-$60 Nexus pro style as our base weapons. One player on each team will use a swift with the upgraded springs as a "sniper" class. And, one on each team uses a gel blaster as a support/suppression class. It seems to work. They have slightly less range than the base 140-150fps Dart Zone "pro" style blasters. But, can be tactically used if you get behind a good position or high ground.
I find them useful and fun. But, almost always exclusively with half length blasters too. If I use them alone, it's just with my kids and in a semi small area.

The battery for this is LiPo. Seriously. Hasbro. LiPo all your blasters. Release a cross-platform standardized rechargeable LiPo battery pack compatible with all the blasters. People will pay a bit more for it. Stihl makes yardwork tools that run on battery packs, and the same battery can be used on all the power tools. People buy the tools and then a few batteries to run them and have some extras on hand to charge while others are in use, and Stihl makes some decent money that way.

In my experience with the SplatterBall SB1200 and reading a couple of things, the gearbox does not complete its cycle if there are too many trigger pulls in semi auto. This can cause jams and ultimately breaking- like my last SB1200. What I'm getting at here is I'm guessing the reason why they decided a slower rate of fire on semi auto is for the gear to catch up and the trigger pull to not interrupt it.

Sure, this category has higher capacity or performance or whatever. I would still lean towards this for the shell. Not only is it slick and handsome, it is also very clearly Not A Real Gun. A few too many gel blasters are modeled on actual firearms and without orange tips for my comfort. This thing, I could actually feel comfortable taking it to a park.
Splatterball is also probably a good pick, I've just seen too many that are just a Skorpion with a drum mag and not much indicating it's a toy.

Gel balls are 98% water and 2% polyacrylamide. Polyacrylamide is a polymer that is formed from units of acrylamide, a known neurotoxin. However, Polyacrylamide itself is not considered to be toxic, but is a controversial ingredient because of its potential ability to secrete Acrylamide. Polyacrylamide is of low toxicity but its precursor acrylamide is a neurotoxin and carcinogen. Thus, concerns naturally center on the possibility that polyacrylamide is contaminated with acrylamide.
It looks like a disaster waiting to happen to me.

it's an attractive package. the feeding problems, and amount of wobble in the ammo container is completely unacceptable at that price point. still very unsure about this entire product category. my thoughts will be massively swayed by what the gellets are made out of, if they're non-hazardous throughout their entire life cycle, and if they decompose readily

I think we were all right to expect very little from this. I don't think anyone even expected this to hit the averages in performance, design or even consistency. this is the second review I've seen now that's said, "Yeah it looks cool but don't pick it up. it's too expensive and under performs". I expect them to lose money from this and I'm jut hopinf we don't get more half assed and foam flingers like we saw in ultra and elite 2.0.
I also don't expect gel ball blasters to catch on becuase they are illegal in a lot of areas. I have shot gel blasters as they seemed very similar to airsoft. I shot one that were replica firearms and functioned pretty much the same. I found it really cool but it was somethign with fleeting excitement. I also keep hearing stories about police confiscating and arresting people with them.
