Coach Tab said it correctly in his interview of why Philippines Gilas seems to.lose and never get over the hump against power teams like New Zealand, SoKor etc. He said "Because we are doing the same thing all the time even though we know what the problem is" that's the sickness that we need to overcome. Real progress happens when you do things and approach the game differently from the last time and not just be content with the last result.

Chot Reyes seems to think of himself as better than he actually is. His style simply wouldn't cut it in the international stage. I've seen Baldwin's Gilas team and I know that team can compete with the best of them. Our players are talented. Kouame, Ramos, and Ravena, especially. They just need a system that actually works.

PBA should be aiming for international level, but they remain old school. Its time to advance with the world. Our players are getting taller and more athletic but without the proper program in place and PBA always getting in the way and hampering Gilas advancement, we will remain a wash up.
That is why the pba will not progress if they will not adjust to euro style plays. The Philippines have good players but the coaching style is isn’t really good to be honest. If you want good coaching and better competition go to the us, Europe or Australia don’t stay in the Philippines because you will not get any good competition.

@@krishyyfan5153 we have kai 7’ feet , and bunch of 6’9 and taller younger generations. We never had taller players before, our usual centers were 6’5-6’8. No, I’m not joking! We saw the potential with coach tab and the younger gilas boys

Exactly the same old GILAS we saw always losing and choking in Offense and defense. SAD to see after we made progress with Coach Tab and here we are again with Coach Chot with his system that doesnt fit international play.
Now we can see the difference of coaching of tab and chot. What a downgrade decision by SBP. But still it is safe to say that this team is not the best, hope we send the best team as possible in asian cup.
NZer here - the more games that Gilas can get, the better! Our Tall Blacks used to be stuck in the *Oceania* division and that was no good for them - only serious competition was Australia. Now we're in Asian division and we get *great* competition from teams like Korea, China, Japan etc. That has helped us HEAPS! Oh, and get into 3x3 (3 on 3) - that's a GREAT way to increase the skill level really quickly! We put quite a lot of emphasis on 3x3 and I'm sure it helps big-time!

New zealand is just a super power team not only in asia but in world cup also. They toe to toe against Brazil, greece in world cup and beat turkey and montenegro. But philippines can beat them if the proper coach will coach them with the help of the best players in our country. SBP, please put Coach Tab Baldwin back at helm. This Chot Reyes system is not fit for international competition. It makes players look awful. Kouame was a monster in Tab’s system. Here he had a difficult time. Everyone has just clueless and doesn’t have plays
No matter who's coaching or having the best possible lineup available Gilas is still not up to the standard of international basketball. Your players need to go to Australia Europe or U.S and train/play under their system to greatly improve starting from a young age.

Luka Doncic also was at Real Madrid's youth academy at a very young age. Right on most part but Chot has been playing Dwight as a guard all the way, he’s been using his 3 guard lineup this whole window except for moments in the India game.
The complete lack of ball movement is disturbing. They pretty much relied on isolation from the 3 point line in the 2nd half and hedging on rebounding the misses with this UNDERSIZED lineup lol. Chot Reyes has solidified his style as a total circus, just clownish.

This wasn't even the strongest NZ team and yet they dominated the game. Their main players are resting/not allowed by the teams they're contracted to play. Gilas needs to change their system if they are to compete against the best Asian teams. Tab Baldwin was really a great coach for Gilas, his system is world class. Hope they bring him back. Never too late. This team won't learn anything or do any changes to their game , sadly.

I do agree that as a nation of Basketball in order to improve our locals we have to change the whole system of Basketball in the Philippines. What I don't agree with is the height comparison that the Philippines is getting taller. Using Kai and the other uaap players as an example is just an exception and is an anomaly that they are that tall. Remember as a country, the Philippines is still one of the shortest countries in the world. What we as a basketball nation should focus on is skill first and height second because we as a nation collectively do not have. If you search up the height percentile in the Philippines 5'10 is in the 98th percentile, that literally proves that as a nation we haven't gotten taller. I agree with most people that the Philippines needs to resort to a more European\american style of basketball that Coach Tab uses, honestly, that's the only way that we could be dominant in the future against top-tier teams in the world.

Kahit sino pa ang coach diyan sa gilas kung yan ang line up ng player. Hindi parin mananalo ang gilas sa NZ , matatangkad na athletic at maganda pa ang rotation ng bola. Huwag kayo puro sa coach. Kitang kita nman na na-out rebound ang gilas. At kayang pasukin ang depensa.
It's abt their lack of preparation, familiarity, a BETTER coach that can maximize their strength individually and as a team, these group have a great talent but indeed a lack of height compare to their opponents. Sbp was the one responsible for this and Ball leagues in the country on my opinion coz its obvious that they didn't care that much for the country and even for the fans.
This game is embarrassing knowing that the NZ isn't even 50% full force, with that it led me to watch the Korea vs Gilas match-up again and then I realized how different Coach Tab's system to Chot's style. There's no off-ball plays and actions it's pure pick 'n roll then and if not successful will lead to a kick-out pass. I'm not saying this play isn't effective but relying only with it... that's pure guff. This isn't a hate towards Chot but surely he doesn't know how to utilized Centers and Forwards. Hopefully Kai doesn't end with Chot in the big stage because he'll end up being a pure screen(er).
First time that i wish that Gilas wont win just because of two simple reasons One is to have the realization that the system they are running are already obselete and Full of Crap and politics. ive zoomed in and noticed the foul calls were too thin.. sometimes barely no contact felt at all. i think there is something needs to be improved in the officiating.. this is crazy

Nah.... we did everything wrong from the get go. Gilas(if bs chot stays) is doom... players don't have the right mindset to play better ball and badly needed the guidance of a coach Tab. This young team needs better coaching staffs and more player options other than just some guys from tnt with all due respect to their credentials, they're slow on closing out the tall blacks and lacks too many things. Stats will show why we lost clearly, yes Ramos and ravena good game but still didn't translate into good game. Why? The most assists is 5 for ravena overall, NZL had 15 against 10 again yeah we could say nzl are taller but being quicker to the ball should be our focus this means we didn't move the ball smarter and better. Another is our 20% from the 3s, we badly lost Heading from the start which could or might give us a closer match up shooting wise. Game leaders Ramos and ravena... wiw I don't know if they were supposed to play the 2 spot or 1-2-3??? This is what coach Tab was also pointing, guards should play ball with the rest on the floor engage your bigs on pick and roll/pop, perimeter plays this two did most because our offense is stagnant and didn't really have a stand against the defense of the tall blacks. tnt players didn't really helped this team in any categories, pogoy shot poorly, Williams not a good defender anymore Eram also didn't play well. I think if this set of players don't change their mindset of playing good basketball, they would lose again. I'm not bashing them for putting up a poorly made team coming to this window, but to be honest I'd prefer the Tab Baldwin team over this.

NZer here - the more games that Gilas can get, the better!
Our Tall Blacks used to be stuck in the *Oceania* division and that was no good for them - only serious competition was Australia.
Now we're in Asian division and we get *great* competition from teams like Korea, China, Japan etc.
That has helped us HEAPS!
Oh, and get into 3x3 (3 on 3) - that's a GREAT way to increase the skill level really quickly! We put quite a lot of emphasis on 3x3 and I'm sure it helps big-time!

This wasn't even the strongest NZ team and yet they dominated the game. Their main players are resting/not allowed by the teams they're contracted to play. Gilas needs to change their system if they are to compete against the best Asian teams. Tab Baldwin was really a great coach for Gilas, his system is world class. Hope they bring him back. Never too late. This team won't learn anything or do any changes to their game , sadly.

I do agree that as a nation of Basketball in order to improve our locals we have to change the whole system of Basketball in the Philippines. What I don't agree with is the height comparison that the Philippines is getting taller. Using Kai and the other uaap players as an example is just an exception and is an anomaly that they are that tall. Remember as a country, the Philippines is still one of the shortest countries in the world. What we as a basketball nation should focus on is skill first and height second because we as a nation collectively do not have. If you search up the height percentile in the Philippines 5'10 is in the 98th percentile, that literally proves that as a nation we haven't gotten taller. I agree with most people that the Philippines needs to resort to a more European\american style of basketball that Coach Tab uses, honestly, that's the only way that we could be dominant in the future against top-tier teams in the world.
The main problem of Gilas is the management it self, they never learned 🙄 selfish & hardheaded.... Mr. MVP may be it's time to change the management, they only wasting your money, effort & the skills of Gilas players
This shows that NZ outclass gilas we need more Ramos and Ravena quality. Most of the NZ are NBL.

Kahit sino pa ang coach diyan sa gilas kung yan ang line up ng player. Hindi parin mananalo ang gilas sa NZ , matatangkad na athletic at maganda pa ang rotation ng bola. Huwag kayo puro sa coach. Kitang kita nman na na-out rebound ang gilas. At kayang pasukin ang depensa.
It's abt their lack of preparation, familiarity, a BETTER coach that can maximize their strength individually and as a team, these group have a great talent but indeed a lack of height compare to their opponents. Sbp was the one responsible for this and Ball leagues in the country on my opinion coz its obvious that they didn't care that much for the country and even for the fans.

This game is embarrassing knowing that the NZ isn't even 50% full force, with that it led me to watch the Korea vs Gilas match-up again and then I realized how different Coach Tab's system to Chot's style. There's no off-ball plays and actions it's pure pick 'n roll then and if not successful will lead to a kick-out pass. I'm not saying this play isn't effective but relying only with it... that's pure guff. This isn't a hate towards Chot but surely he doesn't know how to utilized Centers and Forwards. Hopefully Kai doesn't end with Chot in the big stage because he'll end up being a pure screen(er).

Nah.... we did everything wrong from the get go. Gilas(if bs chot stays) is doom... players don't have the right mindset to play better ball and badly needed the guidance of a coach Tab. This young team needs better coaching staffs and more player options other than just some guys from tnt with all due respect to their credentials, they're slow on closing out the tall blacks and lacks too many things. Stats will show why we lost clearly, yes Ramos and ravena good game but still didn't translate into good game. Why? The most assists is 5 for ravena overall, NZL had 15 against 10 again yeah we could say nzl are taller but being quicker to the ball should be our focus this means we didn't move the ball smarter and better. Another is our 20% from the 3s, we badly lost Heading from the start which could or might give us a closer match up shooting wise. Game leaders Ramos and ravena... wiw I don't know if they were supposed to play the 2 spot or 1-2-3??? This is what coach Tab was also pointing, guards should play ball with the rest on the floor engage your bigs on pick and roll/pop, perimeter plays this two did most because our offense is stagnant and didn't really have a stand against the defense of the tall blacks. tnt players didn't really helped this team in any categories, pogoy shot poorly, Williams not a good defender anymore Eram also didn't play well. I think if this set of players don't change their mindset of playing good basketball, they would lose again. I'm not bashing them for putting up a poorly made team coming to this window, but to be honest I'd prefer the Tab Baldwin team over this.
