ASHENS Made Me Do a LIVE TALK! | "Videogames are Weird"

- Yes, thanks to the mighty Ashens I ended up doing a talk at people for PlayExpo Blackpool, specifically centred for a generalised audience around "Videogames are weird" with a heavy leaning on my own background (PC and DOS). Here, I've reduxed the talk into a more manageable form (It's still 50 minutes though because waffle) and you can watch the original here: • Play Expo Blackpool - ...
Special thanks to @mamehaze for his work on putting this together, and a big thanks to @TimberwolfK, @ashens and @MoreFunMakingIt for providing their video intros. There is a video intro missing, that was due from Kim Justice, but as she was there in the crowd she was just going to do it live... And then we didn't even get to that bit because we ran out of time, so that was fun!

Those game boxes art was incredible! Wow. We didnt get stuff like that in the states...
I throughly enjoyed this hybrid - thingy-me-Bob. Hope Ashen's throws more sickys in the near future.
I was in the audience when you did the talk. Really enjoyed it and you did a sterling job!
Thank you!
Been watching YT vids in a private window lately because my Adblocker recommends it as a workaround to their stupid adblock-killing nonsense they're pushing hard right now, so I haven't been commenting on anything lately, but just wanted to write one here letting you know this was great! Ashen's video on Hareraiser (The Worst Game Ever) is one of my favorites from retro gaming UA-camrs, as it's fascinating and funny, and I was wondering why he didn't do many of these talks anymore. I'm super happy he got in touch with you and Mamehaze because you guys fit in fairly expertly... except for the time limit botch, I guess, lol.
The tone of this was just as good, and the information and jokes hit just as hard as his Gallery of Shame presentation from 2019. Even the volunteer section was fun - I thought it was going to be a "Here's some box arts, here's some game screens; can you match the game screens to the box arts that supposedly represent them?" game, but the way you went with it was even funnier. Seems like a great time in person, and I really love how you filled it in with direct feed, properly produced video here for us who don't live in the UK and couldn't attend such an event in person. Awesome job, dude! Super entertaining stuff! I hope you earned some subscribers!
Thank you buddy!
Thank you, I'm glad it came across as a bit of fun, because that was definitely what we were going for. I'm an emulation developer by trade, rather than an entertainer, but to an appropriately geeky audience it can still work I feel, there are plenty of silly stories to tell and it was nice to do something less serious for a change.
I used to love Mined Out as a kid! Also love how anarchic the 80s were when it came to game design, they sure did give us the bait and switch with coverart at times though, anyway this is the first video I've watched of yours and I like your dry acerbic humour, right up my strasse, great presentation too you're both naturals and didn't look nervous at all 👏
Your gaming life mirrors mine to a tee.
I was a spec kid, then weirdly we had a brief family dalliance with an Atari VCS 2600, then I was a Nintendo nut (also brief fling with a Game Gear to my shame) before moving towards the PC God hood.
I did my best to explain that the game was older than her, we made do with what we had, you used your imagination and that she should get off my lawn!
We fired up the Snes the other day for a game of classic Mario Kart, but my stepdaughter (who was raised in the era of the mighty Wii) almost had a stroke over (in her words) how baby the graphics were.
Bloody kids!
My daughter did the same with MK, haha
I watched this. You are a pretty good public speaker
Im from the states so we did the atari and NES more over there, but I have emulated some of these, and some were strange AF
Thank you for the talk. Its nostalgia/interesting/humor overload
This is great!!!!!
In the middle of ripping up a load of kitchen tiles and removing the glue stuff...will have to come and finish watching this later
It's a solid entertaining presentation, you were well deserved to be chosen. Of course, completely left to dry by the technical issues, but you handled it calmly and worked around the limitations. Your next one will be even better
Fun time :)
Good one! I want to re watch it tomorrow. Is there any chance for Monster Munch Halloween Special? I love this series!
Well she's at the age now where ahe just wants to hang out with friends or sulk in her room, so that could be tougher!
Fantastic. It was obvious you felt out of place in front of an audience, but you are just a natural entertainer and nailed it.
I was triggered by the Kong box art at the end, which will undoubtedly send me down a rabbit hole.
I remember studying that image in 1998 while in detention in my school library.
I was learning BASIC at the time, and am sure it was in a book about programming, but I haven't seen that image anywhere else until today.
My brain snapped onto it and did the slow zoom in to a dutch angle thing as 25 year old memories bubbled back up. Weird.
Anyway, great work.
Thanks for recapping the talk as an episode for those of us trapped on the Internet to see.
I hope you pick up a bunch more subs from this.
Ashens is a man of impeccable taste (despite his apparent pica).
Thank you! It was certainly a challenge.
Ooo be nice if you can catch a bit of ashens audience and they come here to discover the wonderful stuff you do!
Quite good
Watched the whole thing in one go. Would’ve easily enjoyed 3 hours of this kind of nonsense. They should invite you again and make it longer 👏
I'm having Déjà vu!
Equaliser did have an evolution in it...the purchaser of that game evolves into a bored person.
I have to wonder if this was Stu's plan to give you more exposure.
the last thing we need is Rosey Exposing himself!

6:09 just follow the example of Scott Ross. Create a memorable title for your obscure game videos with a catchy opening jingle and also create a popular video series that goes along on the same channel and your obscure games videos would be way bigger. And also have a personality. (Not that you don't have one but have a more interesting one. That didn't sound quite right. I like your channel but don't try too hard, be yourself and I better stop writing now...)
