- The British Army Challenger 2 DTT (Driver Training Tank). This vehicle is based on the Challenger 2, but the turret has been removed and replaced with a weighted structure to house the training instructor and other trainees. These vehicles are based at The Armour Centre in Bovington, Dorset, where trainees learn to operate armoured vehicles.

Drove it in about 2000. Even balanced it on the knife edge at bovvy. Good fun
Sounds awesome!
The DTT is also the same weight as a conventional turret . That's what all the angled steel plate is below the windows .
Great info, thanks!
True but , it has no "Chobham" or Dorchester armour. Instead it is ballasted to weigh the same as the conventional C2 so the trainee driver gets the "feel" of the gun tank.
The Commander has an override that can stop the vehicle if the newbie is getting out of his depth or in danger of accidents.
Do they cut the power of the engine to simulate a fully loaded and battle ready vehicle? (apart from the false turret weight)
Great question, I’m not sure on that I’m afraid but hopefully someone knows!
No. The tank weighs the same as the standard gun tank and has the same CV12 1,200hp engine.
LOVE your vids. Take care and thank you!
@@thewomble1509 Thank you, much appreciated!
Has it got a towing hitch? If so it could double as a heavy tractor for the engineers or artillery.
Thats Bovington
Sure is
"interesting" 🤔
