I only have a few of these DualDiscs, but the DVD side is actually music videos. Bon Jovi, Ben Folds, and Weird Al. I always thought it was an excellent idea. I am from the "MTV Generation" where we were used to getting videos along with the hit singles, so it was an interesting concept to have them all archived on a single disc. It was something I actually imagined way back when I experienced my first CD+G in 1991, an Information Society disc. Then it became a reality, if only for a minute. :)
I just discovered DualDisc today while looking at an old Neil Diamond CD. In the case was a promotional insert telling about his next release, "The Jazz Singer" coming out on DualDisc. I had never heard of it before today.

What are your thoughts on the Mini disc? Also I noticed that behind your record player you have an EMS parcel! Maybe from Japan. Do you mind me asking what was shipped to you?
What cd players do you know of that are compatible with DualDisc? I'm trying to purchase one to rip a couple dualdiscs that I have, but I can't find anything.
Sony killed Dualdisc, They never added hi-res audio, and used terms like "entire album in PCM stereo" , "entire album in enhanced PCM stereo", "entire album in LPCM stereo" , "entire album in enhanced LPCM stereo", "entire album in enhanced stereo" when describing the DVD layer, and of course ALL of those terms meant the same thing. And the lamest I saw was "entire album in 4800 hertz". Sony actually released a statement in Britain that said they were not going to add hi-res audio because they wanted to protect their investment in SACD. I speculate that Sony felt threatened because all the other labels were supporting it, so in true Sony fashion they release more titles than anyone else just to kill the format. After all, people who purchased Sony titles did so expecting better audio and when they didn't get it, they stopped buying it.
I have 12 of them and I really liked the format and the sound of most of them. But with the availability of hi-rez downloads the "convenience factor" got the best of it for me to.
Oof I'm trying to collect all of those right now. I just need Speaking In Tongues onward and I'll have a full set of all the original releases, European CD/DVDs, and these DualDiscs lol
DualDisc = Cd + SACD > CD layer Vs. SACD layer = very small difference, almost imperceptible, in favor of SACD, it sounds litlle bit finer and not worth the money to pay for it > dead format. But... but if you have money for better equipment and music format (to some extent), it will definitely sound better... once, now, in the future, always.

Anyone know how to rip the audio from the dvd side ?

I have and I dig the Talking Heads on DualDiscs and they sound great, ripped with DVD Extractor to play in flac ..
