I got two of these old 16 feet tarpons. I bought them because I was going on assignment to Ingleside living in Rockport back in 2011. My dream was to hit the close rigs. Unfortunately I never got to the rigs but I did fish the bays and breakthrough the surf plenty of times. Ty you put that bug in me, WHAT! Still on the bucket list for my son and I to get these Tarpons offshore to a rig. Enjoy Kevin, nobody can keep up in a headwind.
The last two numbers of serial number indicate the year model of kayak. Not too long ago I picked up an old Tarpon 160i... then and older Ride 135 with wilderness Rudder. Well that rudder is going on the 160i and ill be paddling that rocket ship through the marshes!

Hi Ty, very interesting? I've been paddling a Tarpon 120 and 140 for about 4-5 years now. Trident 13 before that. Have looked at buying a pedal type kayak for about 2 years and have not been able to pull the plug. I've got the cash for a Hobie, but everytime I go fishing in my Tarpons, I have a blast and catch fish! Funny seeing you hard core You-Tube kayak guys go from paddle to pedal and now back to paddle, LOL! Welcome back to the Tarpon family. Stay Safe!

I got lucky and was able to pick up an older Tarpon 16 for $100 it was in pretty good shape only needed a good cleaning, some handles, and a few minor screw holes on the deck filled. The paddle keeper and stakeout pole holder are great ideas. I would love to see how you set up the cockpit. Any ideas on how to access fishing tackle while in the boat? Reaching the hatches while in deep water doesn't seem possible. Do you just keep a small tackle box in your life vest?

the seat area looks like a bathtub with no drainage. how much water does it retain and how do you manage?
it gets water in it... this is a summer time yak for sure... we wade and stay wet most of the year her in South Texas cuz its hot!!! not a dry boat by any means...

HEY JEROME! no idea! those older boats are hard to find parts for... I did find a hatch cover at the corpus christi ocean kayak dealer one time.
fire the video guy. The focus and point of these reviews is not the person talking, but letting us see the kayak. Also the person is panning the camera (probably a cell phone) too fast. Maybe a re-shoot with someone different doing the camera work?
