  • Lightburn is making an update on their upcoming 1.5.00 release that allows the user to enter the material thickness and the laser nozzle will automatically set the focal distance based on the number entered. Yes, this will work with upgraded laser nozzles as well. Pay attention the video as it shows how to adjust the settings for this.
    UPDATE: American photonics states the Offset value of their lens is 3mm, but I mistakenly spoke about the Fiore nozzle offset. Per Andy Fiore the offset value should be .5mm if you use a loose lens in his setup or 1.5mm offset if you use the AP magnetic lens

    i just reread Andy’s website for his newest nozzle setup. If you use a loose lens then the Z home offset will need to be .5mm where if you use the AP magnetic lens with the Fiore setup will be 1.5mm. So long story short, don’t use the 3mm offset if you’re using the new Andy fiore nozzle.

      So if I have the fiore magnetic lens and nozzle I should make the z offset 1.5mm instead of 3mm correct?

      @@EdmondsWoodshop Think cause people are gonna miss put in numbers and crash heads. And I don't think everyone's z home is the same height. I know when I turn on my machine and use my block to get my engrave or cut height the Ruida doesn't seem to read the same distance all the time for each one. Was the main reason I went to using a block to get the heights and not 17-material.

      @@EdmondsWoodshop sorry, I may have asked the question wrong. If using the Fiore lens holder w AP magnetic lens, I know the focal distance was supposed to be the same. I haven’t measure and compare the lens barrel length (maybe it doesn’t matter) but the configuration you showed for the APC includes that 3mm delta. The Fiore (I thought) was the same as stock…so, the z offset change wouldn’t be needed for the Fiore setup. Clear as mud? 😮

    the update is awesome....but it is a beta, strange things can happen - I have had the "auto" focus randomly quit working - then randomly restart - after I had gone in and return all device setting back to prior and even the machine setting - the device setting all magically rechecked themselves, but and started adjusting - but of course the machine setting was still back at 0 - but hey that's beta for you

    Which omtech co2 would you recommend for a first laser around the price of an omtech polar ? I was about to pull the trigger an a polar but now I'm wondering if I should choose another of omtechs offerings. Space isn't really an issue but I also don't want a HUGE one. I Primarily want to do work with hats, doing leatherette, acrylic patches etc, and eventually I want to be able to take on large orders. Also interested in doing tumblers; and would like the option to work with other things if desired since I'm just starting out. Thank You!

      @EdmondsWoodshop  7 місяців тому +1

      As long as your 12 month license hasn’t expired by the time the update comes out, you should be able to update just fine. Each lightburn license has a 12 month timeline that allows you update anytime an update comes out. It’ll still work even after the 12 month key expires. You just won’t be able to update after it expires.

      @@EdmondsWoodshop What I find annoying, is that from what I gather, if you use Windows, software is included but if you use a Mac you have to have Lightburn but you still pay the same amount for the cutter? Maybe I'm wrong but that appears to be the case. I wouldn't need design software, I have oodles of that, all I would need is to control the cutter.

    • @EdmondsWoodshop
      @EdmondsWoodshop  7 місяців тому

      @createinspain that’s not correct. Whether you have windows or a Mac you still have to pay for the lightburn license. You can use lightburn for free for 30 days by going directly to their website, but after that you have to purchase their license
