The only way to leave was trough exiting the level. I have no idea why this was here but its definitely going to stick with me for a while.

Interesting video but like with the Scariest Mario Rom Hack vid, the distortion effects cheapen the real horror of the game being discussed. Like with a lot of horror channels I see, it's making the mistake of not letting the content stand on it's own, whether that be by creepy unrelated visuals, or needlessly creepy music. Also, I have no idea whether it's intentional or not, but the video feels like it cuts off right as things are getting interesting.
Yo! thank you for checking out my hack, this was a great video! i'm a bit confused about the ending tho, why the sudden ending like that? also this is very important, could you change the link to the game to go to the official release trailer? I always felt that Super Mario 64 content such as this romhack was a perfect representation of how people felt during the worst period of COVID 19, when eccentric people weren’t allowed outside a 5KM distance of their house except for a trip to the shop, and felt trapped in their house. Content like this rom hack and the idea behind it almost represented those people going crazy because of the restrictions set down for everyone

I think I might know why it's called b3313 since this is a creepypasta about a beta of mario 64, the B could stand for Beta. B + (3 + 3) + (1 + 3) B + 6 + 4 Beta64
It's just the build version. It's a common thing for us programmers. When we're building software we just go for b for build, and whatever the number of for build that is. Sometimes it's v0.XXX for when the developer wants to follow a more conventional approach. V for version and 0.X for the alpha/beta builds of your software. Hitting version v1.0 would mean the official release of the software. The bXXXX moniker would be dropped and v1.0 would only be picked up retroactively if there are bugfixes for the game V0.X works particularly well for when you plan to keep maintaining the software you're working on while bXXXX works particularly well for when you plan to have v1.0/the final build of your software to be the actual final build of your software.
@@artstrange3230 alright alright I see you I know basically nothing about game programming and version names, etc. so I'm glad to get clarification still think my thing was kinda clever tho
If you use "personalized" as a stand-in for creepy, then I guess so. But nothing at all is actually personalized about these hacks. It'd be really cool if we got a hack where the game changes based on your specific actions that you have taken, not knowing what kind of weird stuff and scares you can expect.
I think it would be even crazier if there was a random value given to you when you start a file that makes certain paths and events trigger specific to that number. Like undertales fun value or omoris wtf value
can you please fix the description? i loved your video but you have to take action over what's happening, no credit to the team at all and you're hosting an illegal .z64 file on mediafire, i'm trying to help here
Hey man, good luck with your musical career! I just started playing the abandoned version and it is blowing my mind the amount of effort and creativity that went into B3313. You and the team did an outstanding job, thanks for all of your time.
Well that ending was abrupt. This hack similar to the last one does kinda play around with the idea of early personalized copies, and while that one showed anxiety and hatred, this one feels empty and confusing, kinda like a deep dive into someone's psychosis. It's not depressingly fearful like the last one for me, rather exploring fragments of the mind especially during those last parts and overall just the game. The emptiness isn't really coherent for me, I don't know if I should feel afraid or at peace, it's just a really interesting rom hack. It's pretty scary I'll give it that, but I find it much more mysterious and I'm pretty sure I'm not supposed to be following a coherent story only that this is an early version of the game but I find it a lot more entertaining.
We got the 2 OG's, Mario and Sonic, both with ROM hacks and creepypasta's, I am glad to have them and their entire series. Anyway, I hear Mario at my door now.
Liminal spaces are just in-between spaces - places that are traveled through, but never to. Like hallways, elevators, lobbies, or train stations. In recent years liminal spaces have become a common uncanny/subtle-horror setting, as in The Backrooms. This works for a few reasons: many liminal spaces are typically public and have lots of people traversing them at once. Being in a public, typically-crowded liminal space by yourself feels wrong. The in-between nature also makes it very discomforting as a setting because they're supposed to be traversed, not lived in - being in an in-between space, but not having come from anywhere and having nowhere else to go, feels wrong as well.
2:00 That's incorrect. Liminal means 'relating to a transitional or initial stage of a process.' The use of liminal as a word meaning "weirdly empty and nostalgic" is a misunderstanding similar to how people think that 'literally' means metaphorically, while in reality it means the exact opposite. People would loosely throw the word 'literally' into a sentence due to having seen other people use it, and instead of searching up and understanding the definition, they assume it's simply a word that you decorate your sentence with to make it sound funny. A similar thing happened with 'liminal'. From what I know, this misunderstanding about the definition of 'liminal' originates from some creepy images that used the phrase "liminal space" to describe them. This was a correct use of the word, as the images showed places like empty hallways and staircases, which are all places that exist for the sole purpose of transporting you to a room. These places were not liminal because they were empty, creepy, or to some even nostalgic, this is just what people would assume because they did not understand the definition of 'liminal'. You don't make a hallway to store stuff in it, you make it for the sake of transporting yourself between rooms, that is what makes it a liminal space. A playground for example is not a liminal space, it was made for kids to play at and not for the sake of leading you somewhere; it is a destination, not a path. It doesn't matter how empty, dark, or creepy this playground may be, it is still not liminal in design. The definition of liminal that you and many other UA-camrs are describing is incorrect. Quote found from an online article by Julia Thomas to help understand what a true liminal space is: "The term “liminal spaces” refers to places between destinations that aren't meant to be existed in as much as passed through." And as I've also said, it's a space designed as a path, and not a destination. It doesn't mean anything as exciting and unique as many might think, it is just a word used to refer to places designed to be pathways, that is the cold truth.
"Lets talk about the creepy parts of this game", *proceeds to overuse the distortion effect to where it detracts from the actual game*. If it's creepy, let it speak for itself. The constant shoehorning in of that effect is annoying
I'd like to point out that in the mob vote video for the sniffer, tiny agnes states that the sniffer will add new plantS (in plural) to the game, and the vine that is seen in the video is just some concept art. Multiple ancient plants sounds cool.
I want to make a custom cartridge of this game and give it to a kid in the 90s and watch as he plays this game and none of his friends know what he's talking about and him being confused and thinking his game is haunted.
I can relate to this so much, as it happened to me with ocarina of time when you become adult link the very first thing you see changed is the market that horrified me as we were all used to the peaceful market, and when you are at hyrule field and the sky darkens when you approach certain areas, that scared me two, especially when it’s night😣
You are not alone, my friend. It sabotages the message. Is it _really_ that scary a Mario hack when the creator felt the need to 'enhance' the fear factor just to make it presentable as such?
I don't know about you, but seeing stuff about B3313, it gives off a liminal vibe, while at the same time incorporating elements of creepypastas with actual beta content. Unsettling, but pleasant if you ask me..
I swear the first time I played this I got a completely different layout in the castle lobby. Everything seemed darker, there was only the big door in the middle, not even the door to exit the castle was there anymore. The big door took me to Whomp's Fortress but it was really dark. As soon as I entered the level I got a message saying "get star". I walked arround for a bit but the only thing I could find in the level was a coin in the top of the fortress, taking it started a timer and after a while I just died and respawned in the regular castle lobby.
The theory that Mario is in a purgatory is made even more true if you actually beat the ROM Hack (Yes it has an ending except I won't bother to explain it), once you beat Bowser for the last time you get the usual end cutscene, except instead of the credits you'll see Mario fall into a void before getting a game over.
@@toad7369 It kinda lets the air out of the experience, really. Everything that had been building up just goes out the window and is replaced with unsatisfaction & disappointment.
Using a short and little amount of distortion works SO much better than overusing it! I'm distracted, my head hurts and i'm not at all engaged because of it. It's far too much.
1:57 ok, no: “liminal spaces” are spaces built to transport people from one space to another. i.e. the hallways in an apartment complex or a waiting room. their creepiness comes from the fact that so little effort is put into making them feel like a “home”. if you hadn’t provided a completely made-up definition i would have given you the benefit of the doubt that you were saying the beta version felt very much like a transitional stage for nintendo’s game design. that would have made at least some sense. in short, i’m not sure where you get the information that “liminal” means what you say it means, but it’s not true. i feel like you at least owe it to your viewers, as a creator of video essays, to not provide blatantly incorrect information
Whats really uncanny is that Nintendo is still up and going as a company. They are the biggest jerks in the industry. They dont even bother to make good consoles because their IPs carry them.
The reason that us humans are creeped out by being alone, is because back in the caveman days, people used to live in tribes (small groups) and we are probably still used to that feeling because most people live with other people
One time, in a Super Mario 3D Land ghost house stage, at the end of the stage where you go outside and there's a fence and that creepy ghost thing...I swear there was one of those blargh things, like the ones in the desert level, but a ghost like version. It popped up from the ground to attack. But...every time I play through that level...it doesn't exist. There's no such thing. I can't really remember when I saw it...but I could have sworn I did. It was....very weird.
The not polished version of Mario 64 was Nintendo’s okayed to showcase game version, it wasn’t released because it at the time was made with only a few other areas, not all of them though, they were trying to get other regions around the world to show the game on early commercials that were mainly only going to consist of almost finished versions of the game. Miamoto said on a radio type of talk show why they don’t release beta version# if their games, it’s due to having to make games in a kind if software that would onl6 then keep on going through changes so that Nintendo can make areas look better, make they’re audio bits fit in well in the games, animations play accordingly Mainly, it has to do with the software firmware updates that lots of companies try to conjoin with Nintendo’s development hardware, so it’s just that they cannot make able to be played beta versions because their being made on computers to begin with, when their making games, they update the games firmware with changes, tweaks and fixes to software that’s not doing what they want them to do Ultra in example couldn’t support the kind of software that Nintendo was developing, they’re staff were less experienced then Nintendo’s own employees, they weren5 willing to spend a couple years in college to learn how to program games much better, they were going to move on from the gaming business anyways. Silicon Graphics was capable to make Nintendo have really good visuals since Silicon is from Silicon Valley in New Mexico, Silicon Valley is in Albuquerque, Microsoft and Apple b3came businesses there all to begin with, so they’re manufactured chipsets, computers were passed on over to China for software engineers so they would script the software Ultra and Nintendo would’ve looked at how chinas software is currently doing when they keep on getting better development software and they talk to chinas engineers about what’s needed to be added to the software If yo7 guys ever watched MetalJesusRocks video of showing the NTSC version of the N64 DD Add-on, what happened was that people like Kaze who makes really good rom hacks explained that the C language was pretty new to script games with, it was for a while a known only to a bunch of people new scripting language, so many things he tweaked in Mario 64 to make the game do better at weren’t able to be done back then because there older versions of the C language that didn’t have the whole potential to tweak everything with very fast scripts. The NTSC version of the Disk Drives Copyright date was made before the Nintendo 64 was even made yet! Why they started off with making the add-ons first is cause they were going to make disk games for the Nintendo 64, but they wanted it to also play other kinds of games, a cartridge kind of game, since Nintendo was aware that a few years later, Floppy disks themselves were proving to be unreliable or dependable to store data onto, so Mario 64 DD was one of the disks that only ever made it onto 1 disk It was only made for showing off how powerful the N64 is. The person who showed it being played on their console was given it as a gift at a Nintendo loce showcasing, after they showed it off, they took it out of the console and gave it to somebody at random, they luckily years later showed it being played as well in their UA-cam channel. Why 1 was only ever made was to only show it being played and they showed how however the game wasn’t complete with 2 other areas, they were only going to show off a bit of the game, but not all the areas, so some areas were scrapped and that’s why when they showed their video, they were only able to get 118 stars entirely because of the outcome of the disk having 2 areas cut from it since it was only being showcased. When LuigiBlood made the updated version of the game, Hard4Games Tony and John copied off of the hardware and firmware of MetalJesusRocks console, and disk that came with it, the software, they modeled the software into a special kind of emulator, it’s only specialty was that it would support N64 Disks but it didn’t have the support to conjoin N64 Cartridge games with DD games together. Their test cartridge of Mario 64 that has the white label on it that says Test Cartridge itself doesn’t even have beta content stored onto it because it was the same kind of test cartridge that was sent to Toys R Us stores for the staff to take a look at and send back Nintendo if they were able to report that anything wasn’t right with the games just yet That explains why there’s a 1.1 version of the Japanese version, it had some fixes made and one of them was the backwards long jumping glitch. Mark De’Lora who MetalJesus got to contact thanks to AssemblerGames reaching out to Mark told MetalJesus stuff on the phone like why it doesn’t have any playable American disks made for it, he explained that it was more money to make each disk then to sell them for, so that wouldn’t have made Nintendo any money He explained why blue disks don’t work on regular disk drives and it’s due to the fact that they can tell the difference between a regular disk between a blue disk, so development consoles can read both kinds of disks because Tokyo Japan is the source region of all disk games made, with that of also being Lot Checked, they were able to test the compatibility of games and developments versions of them. They only now know how to put beta content onto rom hacks and even on micro sd chips beta versions of games because people were able to acquire developement cartridges that are used on computers and cartridge data dumping third party devices were made so that people can make their software into usable emulators and roms
don’t get me wrong, this is an amazing video and great job, but i just can’t with those cliches in every video about liminal spaces, it’s always like “you just feel so [dramatic pause] …alone” or “it just seems so [dramatic pause again] …empty”, i’ve heard these 2 sentences too many times, the same with the whole definition of the word “liminal”, i can just spit it out word for word any time i want because of how much i’ve heard it, i can’t click on a video without hearing those things and i always expect that to happen, be more creative! (labour up the point and not repeat the same sentences word for word which other people use, it’s getting old) there are tons of ways to avoid these repetitions, like how you can avoid the “once upon of time” when you write the beginning of a fictional story
I loved this rom hack and I liked the whole personized copy concept, course because the thing that sucked out the enjoyment it was the wario apprehension but im thankful for the people that made b3313 decited not to put it in due to how much of a meme it was becoming

Alongside the road were colorless pipes and dead trees. There were no stars in the level even, just a pit with water that didn’t actually go anywhere.

2:10 “luminous space” liminal space lmao
I think I might know why it's called b3313
since this is a creepypasta about a beta of mario 64, the B could stand for Beta.
B + (3 + 3) + (1 + 3)
B + 6 + 4
Beta64
It's just the build version.
It's a common thing for us programmers. When we're building software we just go for b for build, and whatever the number of for build that is.
Sometimes it's v0.XXX for when the developer wants to follow a more conventional approach. V for version and 0.X for the alpha/beta builds of your software. Hitting version v1.0 would mean the official release of the software.
The bXXXX moniker would be dropped and v1.0 would only be picked up retroactively if there are bugfixes for the game
V0.X works particularly well for when you plan to keep maintaining the software you're working on while bXXXX works particularly well for when you plan to have v1.0/the final build of your software to be the actual final build of your software.

That's incorrect.
Liminal means 'relating to a transitional or initial stage of a process.'
The use of liminal as a word meaning "weirdly empty and nostalgic" is a misunderstanding similar to how people think that 'literally' means metaphorically, while in reality it means the exact opposite.
Quote found from an online article by Julia Thomas to help understand what a true liminal space is: "The term “liminal spaces” refers to places between destinations that aren't meant to be existed in as much as passed through."
And as I've also said, it's a space designed as a path, and not a destination.
It doesn't mean anything as exciting and unique as many might think, it is just a word used to refer to places designed to be pathways, that is the cold truth.

I'd like to point out that in the mob vote video for the sniffer, tiny agnes states that the sniffer will add new plantS (in plural) to the game, and the vine that is seen in the video is just some concept art. Multiple ancient plants sounds cool.

I really liked Dry Town in this hack. The music is just so relaxing.

What does this have to do with the video?
I searched my sister’s account name and this is what was the first result.
The reason that us humans are creeped out by being alone, is because back in the caveman days, people used to live in tribes (small groups) and we are probably still used to that feeling because most people live with other people
I think one of the reasons why loneliness creeps people out isn’t because of the fear of being alone; it’s the fear that something else is with you

Miamoto said on a radio type of talk show why they don’t release beta version# if their games, it’s due to having to make games in a kind if software that would onl6 then keep on going through changes so that Nintendo can make areas look better, make they’re audio bits fit in well in the games, animations play accordingly
Mainly, it has to do with the software firmware updates that lots of companies try to conjoin with Nintendo’s development hardware, so it’s just that they cannot make able to be played beta versions because their being made on computers to begin with, when their making games, they update the games firmware with changes, tweaks and fixes to software that’s not doing what they want them to do
Ultra in example couldn’t support the kind of software that Nintendo was developing, they’re staff were less experienced then Nintendo’s own employees, they weren5 willing to spend a couple years in college to learn how to program games much better, they were going to move on from the gaming business anyways.
Silicon Graphics was capable to make Nintendo have really good visuals since Silicon is from Silicon Valley in New Mexico, Silicon Valley is in Albuquerque, Microsoft and Apple b3came businesses there all to begin with, so they’re manufactured chipsets, computers were passed on over to China for software engineers so they would script the software
Ultra and Nintendo would’ve looked at how chinas software is currently doing when they keep on getting better development software and they talk to chinas engineers about what’s needed to be added to the software
If yo7 guys ever watched MetalJesusRocks video of showing the NTSC version of the N64 DD Add-on, what happened was that people like Kaze who makes really good rom hacks explained that the C language was pretty new to script games with, it was for a while a known only to a bunch of people new scripting language, so many things he tweaked in Mario 64 to make the game do better at weren’t able to be done back then because there older versions of the C language that didn’t have the whole potential to tweak everything with very fast scripts.
The NTSC version of the Disk Drives Copyright date was made before the Nintendo 64 was even made yet! Why they started off with making the add-ons first is cause they were going to make disk games for the Nintendo 64, but they wanted it to also play other kinds of games, a cartridge kind of game, since Nintendo was aware that a few years later, Floppy disks themselves were proving to be unreliable or dependable to store data onto, so Mario 64 DD was one of the disks that only ever made it onto 1 disk
It was only made for showing off how powerful the N64 is.
Their test cartridge of Mario 64 that has the white label on it that says Test Cartridge itself doesn’t even have beta content stored onto it because it was the same kind of test cartridge that was sent to Toys R Us stores for the staff to take a look at and send back Nintendo if they were able to report that anything wasn’t right with the games just yet
That explains why there’s a 1.1 version of the Japanese version, it had some fixes made and one of them was the backwards long jumping glitch.
Mark De’Lora who MetalJesus got to contact thanks to AssemblerGames reaching out to Mark told MetalJesus stuff on the phone like why it doesn’t have any playable American disks made for it, he explained that it was more money to make each disk then to sell them for, so that wouldn’t have made Nintendo any money
He explained why blue disks don’t work on regular disk drives and it’s due to the fact that they can tell the difference between a regular disk between a blue disk, so development consoles can read both kinds of disks because Tokyo Japan is the source region of all disk games made, with that of also being Lot Checked, they were able to test the compatibility of games and developments versions of them.
They only now know how to put beta content onto rom hacks and even on micro sd chips beta versions of games because people were able to acquire developement cartridges that are used on computers and cartridge data dumping third party devices were made so that people can make their software into usable emulators and roms
