  • While waiting for a weather window before sailing around the western tip of cuba, we take a short trip North East to explore what we’ve heard to be an untouched reef system. Along the way we are caught off guard by several unexpected challenges caused by the microclimate of Cuba.

    The mizzens main function is to keep you balanced, it's a steering sail more than anything else, also when going upwind there's this concept called slotting which comes from tall ships where they figured out that many small sails can be more effective upwind than one larger one because of how aero foils interact with each other and increase efficiency, like how a good staysail can give you such a big boost if set inside of a big Genoa, if you get your mizzen set just right in relation to the other sails it can make steering really really easy

    You guys are always so positive, even when things suck, and things go wrong, and you’re feeling sick....you’re a great example for others to follow. It’s all about attitude, life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it. Keep it up guys...you’re life is awesome and always will be as long as you keep your positive attitudes going.

      I found the Delos channel through a 'living offgrid' interview and spent the last month watching all their videos. After wanting more, I found these two as well as watching quite a few other 'cruising' channels but the others just dont cut it.
      Jordan & Desiree have good camera work with consistently good sound (the amount of other channels who have terrible sound and no grasp that it ruins it) and great editing so the story doesnt lose momentum, its a joy to watch their adventures.

    You buds are fantastic, I really like it that you are making the most of every opportunity and exploring as much as you can even when waiting for your weather windows. The mighty Atticus really slips along and looks great under sail. I’m sure that rum is as good as if not better than cash , but please make sure you sample at least a couple for yourselves. Would be a real shame to be trading with a bad batch. ( although I am not sure there has ever been a bad batch in the history of Havana Club ) still though , best to be sure your product is good. I look forward to watching more. Jordan you gotta get yourself some pirate pants man and a bandana. You could even pull off a captain Dan if that was your thing. The only bad thing about this video is that I have now watched it all the way to the end and there is no more until next week. Safe travels buds.

Plans have changed , I just made it to Bocas Del toro, Panama. If nothing else I would really like to learn a little more about the boats History. I’m not sure how to continue this dialogue elsewhere. Cheers! And Jordan I’m glad you didn’t cut out the responsible Indiana Jones Hat! Lol

    You guys have put a bunch of sailing miles on Atticus and I am sure you know the boat super well by now but the only thing I noticed from the video is that you may have your outhaul a bit tight and the sail is pretty flat. Sometimes giving the sail a bit more belly can gain you a bit of extra speed depending on windspeed and condtions, could be something to play with if you haven't..

  • @navarredr

    You know that if you sailed a catamaran your seasickness would just about disapear.
    My wife was the same way, we chartered a catamaran and dicovered that she didnt get seasick. In conditions that would have done her in on our monohull. We are converted cat sailors now and wouldnt switch back.

  • @michaelbrownlee9497
    @michaelbrownlee9497 5 років тому

    As soon as you start to feel the on set of sea sickness, go out on deck, sit amidship on the windward side (wind in your face) and keep your eyes focused on the horizon.
    Might be a good idea to have your harness and clipped onto the jack line. ( should always be doing that btw but ....)
