I love how the drum beat changes appropriately (similar to the styles of Alcest & Lantlos.) instead of being blasts for the sake of blasts. This might be their most dynamic body of work. And to think I avoided listening to it 'cause it was called "Demo." It deserves a better name .
+Cody Andrews And Dan Tracy's drumming is just blasts for the sake of blasts? I don't think we're listening to the same records. Especially on New Bermuda, Tracy's drumming is extremely diverse and elegant, but always remains powerful.
Cody Andrews I like to think that this demo is Entitled by their abbreviated name, "DFHVN" but I would also love to know there this image originates from
Best thing theyve ever put out and its gotten the least amount of attention. Grabbed the 10th anniversary libertine dissolves long sleeve recently so at least they acknowledge that this demo exists
It is amazing that their albums sound great, all of them despite the variations in style. Not many bands have achieved that. I also happy that they dropped their black metal band logo seen above.
Even though I like their demo, I find these songs to have a lot less personality than their later releases. Call me bandwagony or whatever, but I find Sunbather and New Bermuda to be modern masterpieces and these early releases only hint at their later greatness. Just my opinion. :D
So they fused black metsl with some British rock subgenre, so freaking what. I seen the video when they played at the Maryland Deathfest and it was good why? Joy Division, that awkward moment when you realize that another Cali band found something great and they explored it. Good for them. I will see them in Asbury Park and I can say they have that Joy Division wtf aspect to them.
Their demo by the way is incredible and that moment you realize that you have to accept it is similar to accepting the fact that the USA is truly divided and Trump is there to make it all awkward for us but we are still enthralled in some aspect of it all to see how it will turn out...sort of like how Opeth's beginnings taken us on a journey into something we all live with now...25 years later, holy shit I can not believe it type revelation.
I think it's clear to me that putting Bedrooms as the 2nd track on this album makes virtually no sense to me. I know it breaks into the same key signature as the third track but I don't think it offers a very proper transition from track 1. If it were the third track it would be a lot better.
I don't get why deafheaven gets sch a bad rep for being black metal hipsters. these guys aren't black in the least bit. I hear way more skramz, powerviolence, and shoegaze influence more than anything blackened. I could see where people get that maybe George's vocals are reminiscent of bm bands, but a shrieking vocal style, black metal band it does not make.
Dylan Herron K so that's apparently a thing... Powerviolence is characterized by its hectic sounds and lots of changes in pacing and rhythm. I don't hear anything like that anywhere here. I would say this pretty classic Blackgaze.

"I loved a girl I'll never speak to again. I spoke to a girl I never stopped loving". I love these lyrics, so emotional.
coming back after listening to the new track of their new album at 2021.

This to Sunbather was one hell of a transition, i fucking love Sunbather

+Andrew Reed might he be referring to the drumming in other black metal records?

The bands that blasts just 4 blasting..are not worth to hear, cause they doesnt have nothing to say other than "I've not a personality'👍™🍾
Excuse my english, have good vacancies anyway..✌™
Still visit this demo from time to time, love it.
Exit:Denied, fucking love it.

muito bem produzido pra uma demo
Concordo.
Wow, big deafheaven fan but somehow never listened to this before. Last track is fucking fire !
Boring zzzzz
This is the best.
Written and recorded on an acoustic guitar and drum machine.
John Kline played actual drums on this EP
Probably their cd that I love most
I like that they’re black metal with a twist. A lot of major keys and the lyrics aren’t about Satan
This is great.
Yeah, this is their best for sure... but all of it is good.
I enjoy this new hip hop music

That logo is sick wtf lol
@@TheFallOfManbearpig it is sick as fuck but it’s not the vibe/aesthetic that would come to be associated with them
@@TheFallOfManbearpiglooks like the Wolves in the throne room logo
If they come back one or two years from now, the record will have this logo. Wanna bet? ❤
@@ondrejmayer on a purely shoegaze album

I used to think so but the newest album was great but also devoid of the noisey blackened major chords I loved. This left me satisfied.
You are incorrect lmao
Agreed. OCHL for me is pinnacle. But tastes are tastes.

what the fuck are you talking about?

first time listening here and i thought that the transition was gorgeous, but i'll pay attention to it on further listens

lol what? I'm a Black Metal fan and I definitely hear BM here o.O
Powerviolence? Are you drunk? This is pretty much the polar opposite of powerviolence.
8523wsxc I meant more like emoviolence
Dylan Herron

8523wsxc after listening to more bm I hear a lot more of it. so can anyone recommend more in this style? blackgaze. and yea emoviolence is like orchid
Sounds more like metalcore than bm
+Devin Hummel The only people calling it black metal, are the people who are pissed off about people calling it black metal
+Devin Hummel ???????????? lol
I guess it's more like something between ska metal and reggaecore
+Devin Hummel lol ?
damn you almost baited me there gg
