    "Libertine Dissolves"
I married into the fly trap
    I sunk into suburban sand
    Victimized by restlessness
Blacking out in the lion's mouth
    I laughed at the cigarette stain;
    Inhaling black on the blinds
And cried at the digital bulb blasts
On the frames of my memory
    I am transparent
    Denied, segregate
    From the obvious
    Drunk and despairing, sick
"I loved a girl I'll never speak to again
I spoke to a girl I never stopped loving
    I never stopped loving her"
    I am transparent
    Denied, segregate
    From the obvious
    Drunk and despairing, sick
    I am transparent
    Denied, segregate
    From the obvious
    I am transparent

    "Exit: Denied"
Choked whines filter through the crack in the window
Where the sun fell through moments ago
And in this hour, the seas blows in the cataracts of his final day
    His blessed concussed confusion
    His seizing airways
    He holds his head
    Wishing for his mother
    He takes to the cold
    Where has the child gone?
    Where has the child gone?
I thought he was anchored to his texts?
    His revered studies?
He grew tired of the distant solar systems
And stopped counting his nightly collection of clouds
And he smudged the blood of his lover
And he smudged the blood of his lover
    "We are never apart
    Maybe in distance
    But never in heart
    We are never apart
    Maybe in distance"
    "We are never apart
    Maybe in distance
    But never in heart
    We are never apart
    Maybe in distance"

    "Daedalus"
    Conjugate the spilled verbs
    Which is best for regret?
Which allows your heavy eyes to sleep?
    Where has God gone wrong?
Shake the hand of your deepest fear
Was it not your hero who saw when you wept?
Could you call if you began to weep?
    Where has God gone wrong?
Her glassy eyes still feel the warmth
So carry on to seas of bliss
And heal your heart with those you miss
    Weighed down by stone doves
Hand in hand through dooms of love
Hand in hand through dooms of love
Hand in hand through dooms of love
    Conjugate the spilled verbs
    Which is best for regret?
Which allows your heavy eyes to sleep?
    Where?
    Where?

I love how the drum beat changes appropriately (similar to the styles of Alcest & Lantlos.) instead of being blasts for the sake of blasts. This might be their most dynamic body of work. And to think I avoided listening to it 'cause it was called "Demo." It deserves a better name .

    • @andrewreed4924
      @andrewreed4924 9 років тому +4

+Cody Andrews And Dan Tracy's drumming is just blasts for the sake of blasts? I don't think we're listening to the same records. Especially on New Bermuda, Tracy's drumming is extremely diverse and elegant, but always remains powerful.

Even though I like their demo, I find these songs to have a lot less personality than their later releases. Call me bandwagony or whatever, but I find Sunbather and New Bermuda to be modern masterpieces and these early releases only hint at their later greatness. Just my opinion. :D

So they fused black metsl with some British rock subgenre, so freaking what. I seen the video when they played at the Maryland Deathfest and it was good why? Joy Division, that awkward moment when you realize that another Cali band found something great and they explored it. Good for them. I will see them in Asbury Park and I can say they have that Joy Division wtf aspect to them.

  • @anthonyjewgieniewsokol1407
    @anthonyjewgieniewsokol1407 8 років тому +1

Their demo by the way is incredible and that moment you realize that you have to accept it is similar to accepting the fact that the USA is truly divided and Trump is there to make it all awkward for us but we are still enthralled in some aspect of it all to see how it will turn out...sort of like how Opeth's beginnings taken us on a journey into something we all live with now...25 years later, holy shit I can not believe it type revelation.

I think it's clear to me that putting Bedrooms as the 2nd track on this album makes virtually no sense to me. I know it breaks into the same key signature as the third track but I don't think it offers a very proper transition from track 1. If it were the third track it would be a lot better.

    • @TheKoNoGuN

I don't get why deafheaven gets sch a bad rep for being black metal hipsters. these guys aren't black in the least bit. I hear way more skramz, powerviolence, and shoegaze influence more than anything blackened. I could see where people get that maybe George's vocals are reminiscent of bm bands, but a shrieking vocal style, black metal band it does not make.

      Dylan Herron
K so that's apparently a thing... Powerviolence is characterized by its hectic sounds and lots of changes in pacing and rhythm. I don't hear anything like that anywhere here. I would say this pretty classic Blackgaze.
