I'm sorry to hear all your family members have passed away. My parents, brother, and sisters are all doing well. I'm grateful for good genetics. Everyone is healthy. I remember Christmas in the 80's. I miss my childhood.
It is hard when we lose so many. Our holidays everyone left goes their seperate ways. No one lives in a big house any more to throw a Christmas party. Our kids are married with kids. This Turkey day my mom spent it with my brothers in-laws . My nephews wife’s parents.
I'm 53. Christmas in the 80s was awesome because it didn't start in September and all your family were alive for family Christmas parties and you didn't even think about everybody leaving this Earth.
Same here. I am the same age. I look back at the pictures and all of my aunts and uncles, both parents, and many cousins are gone. I can go in some stores in July 4 and see Christmas products. I have begun to wonder how many more of the seasons I will see. Such is the way of things.
"It didn't start in September" Historically speaking, yea it did. "Christmas creep" has been a thing since the early 1900s. There's radio ads advertising Christmas shopping like 2 weeks before haloween. Its always been a thing, you just didn't have a thing in your pocket to see people complain about it then.
So much this! I'm 49 and just started looking at home videos from our 80s Christmases and realize so much of the joy was in seeing everyone healthy and alive and laughing together. Now, all my Grandparents are gone, my Aunt is gone, my beloved father passed just earlier this year. Some family members have drifted away. There are still reasons to smile at Christmas but that perfect magic of just having sugarplums dancing in your head, rather than all of life's troubles is forever gone.
Graduated H.S. in 1986....I remember how excited I was to get out there on my own, see the world etc.....fast forward to 2024, and I wish I could go back and do it all over, but I can't go back, I know. 🎶🎵🎵
Damn I miss the 80s, being a kid in the 80s and being a kid in the 80s at Christmas Time..... best times of my life. Thanks for bringing back so many memories.
I was born in 1978, so I was definitely an 80's kid at my prime! I remember decorating all day, then going to the malls and Gemco. Coming home and helping mom and sister make (taste test) christmas cookies. We'd listen to Christmas music the whole time and then at night mom would make us hot chocolate on the stove with Nestle's Quick and my sister and I would watch the Christmas Specials on TV. Id be exhausted after all that and lay under the christmas tree in my pajamas, smelling the pine scent, tasting the red and green wrapped Hershey kisses, hearing my mom singing in the kitchen making kitchen noises, feeling the warmth of the real fireplace as my dad sat in his chair stoking the flames. I loved gazing up into the Christmas tree mesmerized by the lights and trying to determine which light color was my favorite. No matter where I am or what time of year it is, that is my happy place memory. both of my parents are gone now, but that memory keeps them alive in my heart. Merry Christmas Mom and Dad, I love you forever.
What a wonderful comment. Life is so cruel when our loved ones are gone. It’s my first Christmas without my darling husband of sixty six years, I’m dreading it. I miss him dreadfully.
Grow up poor. None of this happens. Our parents took care of our needs, and a few of our wants. But growing up in a 3 bedroom apartment with 5 other brothers and sisters makes me cherish those times, and definitely cherish what I have now, because I know there are families out there that are lucky to get the clothes they need and a meal on Christmas, and I know I was one of those back them.
Christmas in the 80's - and also the 70's - was so special because life during the 80's was simpler, kinder and we took the time to really appreciate the holiday season.
@@debrakelly4505 oh, you mean like my father coming home drunk every night and exposing me to clouds of secondhand cigarette smoke? Or the fact that he cheated on my mother and left her after she was diagnosed with cancer? Yeah, those were the good old days. But that's ok, right? At least gays stayed in the closet.
I loved Christmas in the 80’s…. The old school Christmas lights and decorations can’t be beat! All the Christmas shows that I still watch today at age 53 could never be topped…. When I watch them it takes me back to that time with all the great memories! My favorite Christmas gift had to be the stretch Armstrong and stretch monster which was green if anyone remembers….. plus all the games. Way too many things so it’s very hard to pick one! It was the best era to grow up in and I will always consider myself an 80’s kid, but those 80’s Christmases are unbeatable
I was born in 75.... The paperchain decorations! Woolworths shopping trips, and cabbage patch kids, and yes, we had hide from our siblings and parents while doing the wrapping! ...the real hot cocoa. ....this video all making me teary eyed! My father had to wrestle the last cabbage patch kid from a group of shoppers for my sister, and I distinctly remember shopping in the Woolworths to buy toy cars and airplanes for my brothers. We were so in the moment. No cell phones. No internet. No texting all day. Christmas started the day after Thanksgiving, not at halloween. It was all sooooo much better!
I will never forget xmas 1983. The infamous Cabbage Patch Kid christmas. I woke up xmas morning to find that I did not have a CPK under the tree. I was so disappointed, especially since my spoiled brat next door neighbour came knocking at the door to brag that she got two CPK dolls🙄🤦♀️. I will never forget my mom’s words “Christmas is not done yet”. She was right. We still had my grandparents house to go to. We arrive at my grandparents and my cousin yanks me into the bathroom and blurts out “we got your a cabbage patch doll!!!!”. Opening that present was a feeling I will always remember. It was a lot like Ralphie getting his bb gun in A Christmas Story. And like Ralphie, I clutched my beloved gift while I slept that night. Best Christmas memory ever.
We couldn't afford those dolls, everything came from the goodwill. My mom somehow managed to get the CPD head and real body and she made our dolls. Mine was blonde, my sister's brunette The dolls even had that scent.
We couldn’t afford them either! I remember being at a store, maybe Toys “R” Us, where they were having a drawing for a Cabbage Patch Doll. I was chosen to draw the name out of the bucket. I was hopeful, since I was drawing the name, that I would get one, but it never happened! Now that I look back, I don’t know why I ever wanted one!
Before Muslim terrorism which is blighting our lives especially in Europe where they’ve decided to come and eventually take us Christian countries over. With liberal governments they will.
@@thomashouse6090 Many of the schools where I live have decorations. Garland, fir boughs, holly, ribbons, trees, lights, presents, candles, etc Only the overtly religious ones (say a nativity scene or angels) are not permitted. And no mistletoe for obvious reasons. The Jewish schools are done in blue and white year-round, but they added garland and candles for December.
That’s the hardest thing to deal with on holidays as you get older - remembering those that are no longer with us. It’s very tough. This goes for dogs too
We have lost what it meant to have to wait for something special or work for something for someone else. Today everything is at our fingertips and there is instant gratification. Something has truly been lost because of this. Things just don't feel as special because we don't have to wait or work for it. I miss the 80s.
Mis my Grandma. She raised me. She made it every Christmas special.. An oh boy all the food .she would start cooking all sorts of foods for Christmas. And all the baking. I swear ,like living in a bakery 😅. Man I can almost taste the goodness of Christmas from back then. Yes it was the best time of the year growing up. All sorts of things would happen at Christmas at grandma's. The yard looked like a used car lot lol. Everyone came for Christmas. Guess I'll keep the memories locked in my mind and ❤️😅😂
I love that content creators are keeping this pre-digital Era (GenX, Xelennials, and Millennials) alive for us as we become the older folks. I am so grateful that I was born in the early 80's. I've had the best of both worlds. We are a lucky bunch!!
I'm holding back tears watching this. We lost our dad to cancer this past July. This will be the first Thanksgiving and Christmas without him. Lots of wonderful 80s Christmas memories.
My sincere condolences. Remember the happy memories, he will always be alive in your memory. My dad has been gone 33 years. I think of him everyday. 🙏🏻❤️
I lost my wife to septic shock in 2021 so I remember the first Christmas without her to this day. May your deceased relatives rest in peace. Three years later it hasn’t gotten much easier but I still have some kids to celebrate with.
If I were to "blame" anything for the lack of that 80s magic in todays christmases (I mean, apart from the obvious "internet convenience and constant dopamine rushes") it'd be myself. It's now up to me to make christmas magic for the younger generation. I don't have children of my own but my brother have two (2 and 1) so starting this christmas I'm going to make more of an effort to BE the christmas I remember, instead of wanting it back. 🎅🎄🌟
Oh, my best Christmas memory is all of them. I can't single out something. My mom and other relatives were very good at making it special, every time. Well, I obviously liked that it was similar every year, being on the spectrum I do have a soft spot for somewhat predictable holidays. But one thing I've always loved is leaving the table before everyone else and walk around in the darker, colder parts of the place we're celebrating at. Hearing the voices in the distance, faint Christmas music, ornaments sparkling in the dark. Like a moment of reflection and appreciation.
There are so many things to miss about Christmas in the '80's! I miss shopping at the mall at Christmas and the catalogs that we would flip to the back as soon as they came. I also miss everyone having real trees and tree lots on every corner. We still get a real tree every year, but it's getting harder to find them. The '80's were when people cared and were meticulous about their outdoor lights and decorations. No inflatables! And no one decorated before Thanksgiving.
👍. Yes. I remember the annual treck through the tree 🎄 farm every year TWICE a year. Once to tag it & then the second time for Mom to change her mind at harvest & spend 4 more freezing hours surrounded by trees 🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄! Of course Dad complaining the whole time.🤯🤣💖🤘
The only reason I can see to set up before Thanksgiving is if you get actual winter and the ground is frozen and/or covered in snow after Thanksgiving. Just wait to actually turn it all on if you do it before.
I was a child of the forties and fifties, even better, no tv and you could visit without fear of disturbing the households viewing like these days. The eighties were good too, my kids loved them.
@@brendaroseblade2858 - I was born late 40’s. The 80’s were a nice time to raise my children. I do miss the 70’s and 80’s. I do miss the old heavy tinsel from my childhood. It hung on the tree so well, looked fabulous. The lightweight stuff that followed was awful. Apparently, the heavy tinsel had lead in it. Who knew?
Everything today is commercialized and people have access to the internet, computers, and smartphone! Back in the 70s and 80s life was much more simple and whoever you went to kindergarten with, you graduated with in grade 12!
The season starts WAY too early, it it's crammed down our throats by commercialism. Instead of waiting eagerly for Christmas to get here, it's more of a relief for it to be over. I hate it. Christmas should be treated with respect and not just a money making opportunity. Corporations will still get their Christmas profits without shoving it down our throats, and it will actually mean something again. It's likely they'd make even more money just being patient and letting it unravel properly as there would actually be Christmas spirit.
i was a teen through the 80's What an amazing decade it was. We had so much freedom and so much fun. In the uk we would go to the pub at weekends from about the age of 15 (under age i know but no one seemed to mind as we were all very well behaved and decent.) with our friends. Christmas time was especially magical.
Christmas Eve with Uncles and Aunts. Listening to Muppets and John Denver Christmas Together, eating way to much ham, playing Win, Loose, or Draw and then watching old 35mm home videos of sleigh riding of years past. I'm now 48 and have become one of those Uncles. No one gets together anymore. The entire feeling of Christmas has changed so radically. It's barely joyful anymore.
No one wants to really know aunts and uncles anymore. Regardless of living near or far, extended family are a thing of the past-not included anymore. Sad…
I'm going to offer that the lighting is different. Incandescent and halogen bulbs are warmer - the new LED's are a cold light and much brighter. It really does make all the difference in mood, etc. Even the old florescent tube lights aren't as bright and harsh as LED's. That will account for part of what you're talking about. Also, decorating trends have a lot to do with influencing mood and memory. The 70's and 80's (and before) were warm tone color trends, prints, and pastels (still color!), wood paneling, carpeting, and the like. Cheerful, even if one didn't care for a particular pattern. Today, we have a push towards a gray/beige everything, hard flooring, plain neutral walls, natural fabrics, basically a kinder gentler Brutalist aesthetic. Compared to some modern house decor, I've seen jail cells with more charm. Also, smells and sense memory are a factor here whether they be conscious or sub-conscious. People used to smoke, and wear perfume, and wear heavy jewelry. Regardless of one's feelings about those scents and personal decor choices, to quote the kiddos today, "It was a vibe". And it certainly was. No comment on mean people, politics, or world events past or present. Every decade has had its challenges, some more than others. Peace.
When my Dad passed years ago, I was going through the boxes in the garage, and I found the original Christmas light bulbs. Remember those? They were the size of eggs and shattered if you dropped them. Those lights brought back a flood of memories of him climbing the ladder and hanging them by nails on the roofline.
My dad worked all the time, however, mom decorated the house at Christmas and we watched Christmas movies and cartoons together. She played Santa perfectly. Had me in bed before midnight when Santa was supposed to come.
Born in 84 and Christmas in the 90s were very special to me and my brother. Boy how I miss those times. I often dream about them. World today is a joke and everyone in it is a part of it.
I miss the emotion of that exact second you gaze into the room where the Christmas tree is and see how different it looked from the night before because Santa had visited. Realizing he literally was in your living room, eating the cookies you left him, drinking the milk, stuffing the stockings, and putting down the gifts you asked for… that moment of emotion is something I would like to experience again. But since mine will never be the same I put 200% effort in making sure my kids experience it…. and then year after year, I almost experience it every year myself. 🎅🏼 🎄 ❤
I miss relatives who were still with us in the 80's. Today we try to keep their traditional holiday recipes alive and, man, my heart will always go out to them, it was so much work and responsibility! I miss local and cable channels, Saturday mornings, having off from school for almost two weeks, and it ACTUALLY snowing for a change (thanks to "global warming" or whatever). I miss going to the malls, the toy stores, the arcades, the book stores, the food. I miss all the old animated specials, and holiday music. Today we have them on DVD or Blu-ray. But it's not the same without the holiday commercials of the era! Each year I put one of our Rankin-Bass specials that are "on disc" aside, and do a UA-cam search for a version of that special that aired on TV with 80's holiday commercials. Let me tell you there is no thrill like seeing the Pillsbury dough boy in stop-motion... or Tyco race tracks... or Kodak cameras... or Norelco electric shavers... or the mighty GI Joe U.S.S. Flagg aircraft carrier playset commercial as it aired back in 1985... legendary.
I was a kid more so in the late 70s into the 80s, but same vibe. Waiting for the animations and cartoons and then chstting about them next day in school was unique to those times.
I remember so many things...decorating the tree with handmade ornaments, waiting for snow to come to make it feel more like Christmas, the smell of the dinner cooking on Christmas Day, opening gifts on Christmas morning (my Mom told me that Santa came until I was 14), shopping at the mall for great gifts, and finally, watching the classic Christmas specials each year. I'd love to go back to those times just once and have that feeling again.
Christmas in the 80s meant hoping in the Volvo station wagon and driving to Grandma and Grandpa's house. All of my Aunts and Uncles would be there and my brother and I were the on ly kids for about 13 years till my Aunts and Uncles started families of there own. The smells of cookies and Pies filled the house and the Christmas tree at Grandma and Grandpa's was always bigger than the one at my house. Everyone was together playing board games and talking and just being connected. My favorite gifts I ever received was Castle Greyskull and a 12 inch Indiana Jones doll. 😊 The 80s was the best decade ever! ❤
XMAS was MAGIC... The food the toys, the tree, the school plays. I remember the table for the kids and the PILE of coats in the back bedroom from everyone visiting on XMAS eve. ALL the double parked cars outside. I remember going with my Dad to pick up my Grandmother on XMS eve. There was NOBODY out. I was SOOOO excited cause it was the ONLY night I can stay up after midnight. Other than New Years eve. But now ALL my family is in Heaven. Just my Mom and my Brother now. Just lost my Pops last year. It will NEVER be the same AGAIN.CHEREISH ALL the times when you gather with your LOVED ones. God Bless you ALL. And HAPPY HOLIDAYS...
Best childhood ever. I still decorate my tree with old ornaments handed down, bought for our family and the ones my kids make. Kids are only young once. I choose to make memories with them. Ot have the perfect decorated tree..
I’ve carried over some Christmas childhood traditions into my adult life with my own kids. I hope they carry them on and create new ones of their own once they have a family.
This was just precious. I sat here with tears in my eyes, and nodding the entire time. My mom always made my Christmas’s so magical. And you hit the nail on the head when you said how Christmas back then required presence. I honestly think that is what I miss the most. My favourite gift was my Cabbage Patch Kids that I got when I was 7 years old. Santa really came through that year, 😂. I also really loved my Barbie camper. Thank you so much for this video. It was so wonderful to go back in time and remember when life was simple, carefree and happy. Merry Christmas. ❤️
It was fun being a kid in the 80s, despite how rough the economy was for my parents. They did the best they could to give us a good Christmas each year.
I miss Christmas in the 80s so much! My brother, sister and I actually got 4 Christmases - Christmas Eve we went to my grandparents' house on my Dad's side for dinner, carols, and presents. Christmas Day, itself, we got our presents at home followed by going to my Mom's cousin's house for dinner, where all our relatives on my Mom's side came for Christmas dinner (and she had cable, which we did not, so we got to see all kinds of Christmas specials we couldn't otherwise see). The day after Christmas, my grandparents on my Mom's side came over and brought our Christmas presents from them! Finally, closer to New Year's, my aunt would deliver big gift baskets (usually laundry baskets) full of all kinds of unique gifts! I sure didn't realize how good we had it back then. Somehow, we always got everything that was on our Christmas lists, too!
My granny and grand auntie were still around during Christmases in the 80s, it was an innocent time yet hopeful despite not having the internet and social media.🌲💚
There was no snow in southern California where I grew up, but we could immediately go out and ride our new bikes, skateboards, scooters, etc. We had an artificial tree that we all helped put together every year. We were always told "not to expect much this year," but somehow there was always a big pile of presents under the tree 🎄
I remember the cat eventually climbing the tree and "timber" it fell over. Those C7 bulbs that you dare touch and owies. I missed the angel we had on the top of our tree ~ The 1960s Noma Angel. But at the same time, having the LED cool touch lights is a real blessing. I went hunting on Ebay and bought that angel for our tree an told the seller who lived in Texas and she was so pleased to make our future Christmases that bit happier. Having the ornaments we made at school, the awful flu, colds and Snow days off of school. So it is a mixed memories ~ the hands frozen with wet winter mitts. Frozen climate that you sniffed too fast, you nose froze shut ;-D
The 80s really had the BEST toys! I remember getting Barbies, My Little Ponies, Rainbow Brite, Ninja Turtles, Star Wars, Care Bears. My mom like to theme presents. One Christmas I got the full line up of Care Bear Cousins. Another year, it was all Barbies and her outdoor deck setup. My favorite year was when I got Lady Lovely Locks. All the dolls, the castle, extra pixie tails, a nightgown, coloring books. If it had Lady Lovely Locks on it, it was under that tree. Yes, I’m an only child. How’d ya guess? 😂
I loved watching this video! Brought back so many memories! Until I was 16, I was the only kid, and my folks were the only ones with a house, so everyone came to our house for Christmas. The driveway and yard were filled with cars while the house smelled like a mix of apple cinnamon candles and food cooking in the kitchen. Being the only kid in the 80s, I had so many toys, and I swear our house looked like a miniature toy store. LOL I would always get up before my parents but I dared not open *any* gifts before they got up so I'd just sit on the couch and stare at the tree and the gifts until they got up. Of course, they also had to make coffee first to get that boost of energy to deal with their over-energized child anticipating that first gift. Christmas in the 80s were THE BEST. That all changed in 1993 when my cousins were born and my aunts and uncles got their own houses. It was never the same after that, but I'll always cherish Christmases in the 80s.
Im from a family with 9 children , i realy mis Christmas from the 80ths because it was way more authentic than now .The preparations started 2 weeks before Chrismas ,people were shopping and on every corner of a street you could have a congnac or a gin .
The 80's were the most incredible time to be a kid! My dad set up a scavenger hunt for me to find the ultimate gift.... my Atari 2600. I have never forgotten it and i am a diehard gamer to this day at 49. Also got my first walkman and my first tape... Poison Look what the cat dragged in. Would not change one single thing!! Merry Christmas!
My first Christmas memory is actually my very first Christmas memory. I believe the year was 1989, right at the end of the 80s; I was born in 1984. I remember there was so much decoration and so many different color lights. Mom and Dad kept giving my sisters and brother packages and just kept saying "open, open"! I had never received so many toys before. I didn't know what was going on at the time. All I knew was there were toys, cartoons, everyone was smiling, and everyone stayed home that day. Which was great to me 😊!
Yes what a time to be a kid!!!!! Mom and dad always filled me stocking with fishing gear. I lived on a creek that salmon ran up. And the sea run cut throat trout …. Fished it almost everyday through winter months. Washington state on the sound was beautiful! Biggest fish was 21 inch. Sometimes some steal head. Mom Dad. I love and miss you everyday. At 58 now. Never knew what I had. Dad. Your words. Right now best time of your life! Don’t waste it. Didn’t mean anything to me until now……
I loved the Christmas in the 70’s, I grew up in 80’s from the age of 10( 1980) to age 19 ( 1989). Those years were changed for my life, but the 70’s were great 🎄
I'm a Boomer, but 60's & 70's Christmas was just the same. It was challenging for many autistic & ADHD people, though. I hated crowded malls, loud noise, and having to smile for relatives who I didn't care about. But I loved the pretty lights (as long as they didn't twinkle!), my favourite Rankin & Bass and Peanuts specials, and the music. For many years, I was hung up on all things medieval, especially during wintertime. Ivanhoe and Lancelot were my literary kiddie crushes. One year my mom bought me a reprint of a medieval chivalric romance, with lovely book paintings. I treasured it for years, until it got lost during a move. RIP Mom! ❤😢🤗
Christmas was just better then. It actually started after Thanksgiving, not before Halloween and I remember all of my relatives getting together and celebrating the holiday together. It was a more of an innocent time before the internet and social media. Not that those things are completely bad.
I was a teenager in the 1980ls. I remember getting lots of make up and hair products for Christmas. I also got lots of clothing with shoulder pads and wide belts. My father gave me a TV, one year. It was a 4-6 inch screen and it was a black and white TV but I thought I was lucky to have a TV in my bedroom, spending many nights arranging the antennas so the picture might come in less "snowy". Good memories.
That's what I'm missing .... an 1980's Christmas 🎄 .... when life was simple!!! ... My favourite memory is we used to have a snowball on Christmas Eve!!!
I miss beable to feel and smell Christmas in the air getting excited about going shopping decorating the tree 🎄 love the 50/60/70/80s they were tge best times that's when i had the time of my life 😊
76 born, i remember all my 80s Christmas with grandparents etc round, or us round theres. It still feels like such a rustic and authentic experience in my memory compared to now..i remember our real Christmas tree being hauled into the house like it was yesterday, and i actually loved my stocking most of all, which was just a pillow case on the end of the bed. Im nearly 49, and i just last week I was at a pub with one of my nans whise still with us, almost 99yrs old, im so greatful to have her around still, im also a nan myself now when is so bizarre lol 😆 most people i know haven't had grandparents alive for a very long time, despite the 80s being the best Christmas times, im blessed to still have a piece of it still here with us today ☺️
At a time, the best memory was toys and video games, Ghostbusters, he-man, voltron, ninja Turtles and NES games but now it’s the memory of my family when everyone was alive, healthy and happy.

@@brendaroseblade2858. I am so sorry for your loss. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!🎄🙏❤️
That sounds wonderful❣️
me too! very similar! I was born in 1975. 80's kids had the best life!
Knowing you would have to wait a year if you missed the TV special made them much more special than today!!
Christmas in the 80's - and also the 70's - was so special because life during the 80's was simpler, kinder and we took the time to really appreciate the holiday season.
Not very kind for me, but glad you enjoyed it.
And people were a lot nicer to each other also. Back, then people observed common morals and values.
I am so thankful I grew up in the 80's! Was 12 in 1982 so I got to experience the best years of the decade. I miss how life was back then.
I really miss the 80s too. I miss the joy and magic of Halloween and Christmas back then
Before corporate America took over. Before private equity. Before Citizens united, before manufacturing went away
That is a prime age for the 80s.
I MISS THE 80S TOO EVERYONE WAS STILL AROUND AND IN GOOD HEALTH!!!
The 80s was the best time I wish we still had these times
The world was a happier place without the internet
@@khamluong8071 was fine with internet in 90s and even 00s, wasent untill social media became "the internet"
I'm a child of the 70s and the 80s. Definitely a different time.
Quit saying it’s a different time. It’s the best of times. Nothing wrong with the 80s. Many ways we should make it more like the 80s
I was 10 in 1985. Best year and Christmas ever, best toys and the best mom. I sure to miss her, she passed on in 2017.
me too! We all turn 50 this coming year! We had the best childhood!
@@lisanapoli6061 We sure did! Too bad we can't go back to it.
10 too in '85. Not a great Christmas for me, but a great decade. Next year the big 5-0. Oof.
me too! Happy 50th Birthday this coming year to all us 1975 babies!
@@tattales9262 Oof is right, I'm starting to feel it already.😁
Mine was blonde, my sister's brunette
The dolls even had that scent.
@ sounds like a very clever lady❤️
We couldn’t afford them either! I remember being at a store, maybe Toys “R” Us, where they were having a drawing for a Cabbage Patch Doll. I was chosen to draw the name out of the bucket. I was hopeful, since I was drawing the name, that I would get one, but it never happened! Now that I look back, I don’t know why I ever wanted one!
I miss my Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles and ALL the Cousins...LOVE...
I am going to cry now.
And I try to still follow those traditions for my kids. They deserve the warm fuzzy Christmas that I had,
And you can't forget remembering those family members that are no longer with us. Man I miss the 80s and 90s
Christmas was everything back then. Full of light, wonders, joy, love, warmth, innocence and magic. Cant describe it, you must have been there.
Goodwill. There was goodwill back then.
Well said. That was it in a nutshell.
Before Muslim terrorism which is blighting our lives especially in Europe where they’ve decided to come and eventually take us Christian countries over. With liberal governments they will.
That was when you could put Christmas decorations up in school without worrying who you were going to offend
Word!
why start now
@@thomashouse6090 Many of the schools where I live have decorations. Garland, fir boughs, holly, ribbons, trees, lights, presents, candles, etc Only the overtly religious ones (say a nativity scene or angels) are not permitted. And no mistletoe for obvious reasons. The Jewish schools are done in blue and white year-round, but they added garland and candles for December.
being with my dad. god I Miss you dad
That’s the hardest thing to deal with on holidays as you get older - remembering those that are no longer with us. It’s very tough. This goes for dogs too
@brianmeen2158 Especially for dogs. 🐶😪
My parents had these multi colored lights on our tree that were snow balls. I was obsessed with them.
We have lost what it meant to have to wait for something special or work for something for someone else. Today everything is at our fingertips and there is instant gratification. Something has truly been lost because of this. Things just don't feel as special because we don't have to wait or work for it. I miss the 80s.
I think we just miss our childhood. Nothing wrong with that. I was that 80s kid and it was amazing.
Know how you feel. Lost my mother this last spring. First holiday without her.
@ - 🙏🏻
Sorry for your loss.
I lost my wife to septic shock in 2021 so I remember the first Christmas without her to this day. May your deceased relatives rest in peace. Three years later it hasn’t gotten much easier but I still have some kids to celebrate with.
What made back then better was that we all recognised and knew each other . God bless
We were definitely much more social and connected with neighbors and such back then
If I were to "blame" anything for the lack of that 80s magic in todays christmases (I mean, apart from the obvious "internet convenience and constant dopamine rushes") it'd be myself.
The good old days. These kids will never know what they are missing
The 80's Christmas was such a wonderful time of joy and family. I will never forgot those happy childhood memories!
And the 70s
Christmas was a different entity back in the 80s and early 90s. Much better days.
I miss the 80s period
The extended family would actually come over christmas eve night. There was a literal mountain of presents under the tree and we would have dinner.
Receiving a Nintendo for Christmas in the 80's was the absolute best! Priceless memories that will last a lifetime. Cheers!
I still send out over 60 Christmas cards a year, I hope it makes people smile.
Indeed! Can I send you my address?
Born in ‘74. Christmas was always special. A little different now. The rush rush atmosphere exhausts me.
@ I totally agree. Seeing Christmas stuff at Walmart in August says it all.
Yep. I remember complaining to my parents awhile back that Christmas is like 90% stress and rushing these days and 10% joy.. very unfortunate
i was a teen through the 80's What an amazing decade it was.
@@Schwansonian_Townsonian agreed 😔🤍
No one wants to really know aunts and uncles anymore. Regardless of living near or far, extended family are a thing of the past-not included anymore. Sad…
Even without a child’s rose colored glasses, the world seemed warmer
@ I already know it
@ it’s not so much the conspiracy theories it’s the world in general and mean people
@ Patrick, within 1 comment you cannot judge a person responsible or not!!!
Peace.
My favorite.
Part of Christmas in the 80s was watching all the Christmas TV specials. You're right we lived for those
just something so special about Christmas in the 80s(and early 90s) that cant be explained and will never be duplicated
When my Dad passed years ago, I was going through the boxes in the garage, and I found the original Christmas light bulbs. Remember those? They were the size of eggs and shattered if you dropped them. Those lights brought back a flood of memories of him climbing the ladder and hanging them by nails on the roofline.
I don’t have happy childhood memories but I like to hear others stories. It’s cozy.
Me, neither. Here's wishing you the chance to make better memories now & in the future. 😊🎄
My dad worked all the time, however, mom decorated the house at Christmas and we watched Christmas movies and cartoons together. She played Santa perfectly. Had me in bed before midnight when Santa was supposed to come.
No happy childhood memories? None?
What happened?
Be good to the child within. 😍
I still remember going to Pizza Hut in 1986.
Me too!!!!
I miss old pizza hut.
I miss the 80s so much Christmas was wonderful all my great childhood memories with huge Christmases with my grandparents and family was huge then
Born in 84 and Christmas in the 90s were very special to me and my brother.
Waaay before cell phones.. walkie talkies were the ultimate present.
I still have a lot of the old store bought ornaments from when I was a kid in the 80’s. I still enjoy looking at them.
Watching … *It’s a Wonderful Life* … every Christmas Eve before going to bed. Been doing it for decades now.
I am in tears remembering family memories from the 80's. Us Gen Xers had such an amazing time
Christmas in the 80s meant hoping in the Volvo station wagon and driving to Grandma and Grandpa's house.
I miss Christmas as a child growing up in the 60s. Nothing like it. My son was born in 1985.
I was born in 1985 too. New Year’s Eve.
Lets just say the 1940's 50's 60's 70's and 80's were all good around christmas at least for the fortunate ones 🎉❤🎉
It was fun being a kid in the 80s, despite how rough the economy was for my parents. They did the best they could to give us a good Christmas each year.
The Reagan years were good for the economy... Hope you got all caught up!
@ good for the few, not for the many.
I miss everything about the 80s
I've cried and laughed watching this. Thank you for a treasured trip down memory lane.
Im 48 and this video is creating tears. I want those days back so badly.
Didn’t mean anything to me until now……
I miss the magic and anticipation of frosty and Rudolph and grinch etc. only coming on once.

Everything in the 80s were so great special for kids. It's sad they not have screens like tablets and cell phones to watch stuff.
At a time, the best memory was toys and video games, Ghostbusters, he-man, voltron, ninja Turtles and NES games but now it’s the memory of my family when everyone was alive, healthy and happy.
