My one and only effort at solo speedway riding, circa 1971, on a borrowed J.A.P. at Castlereagh practice track, resulted in a total demolition of the engine. I was puttering around the track at slightly above walking speed and on the next lap I gave it a bit of a handful and there was a bang . I pulled in the clutch and I felt something bumping against my leg; it was the cylinder head and barrel being dragged along by the throttle cable. The connecting rod had snapped about mid length and the inertia of the flywheel and the lower piece of rod had smashed the crankcase allowing it to fall from the frame.
Bet that cost a few quid! That's why I stopped riding it's not a working class sport anymore like it used to be and I'm afraid speedway is dying a painful death here in england
Kristiansand (Norge) I'm speedway mechanic but I just visited this track . At few meters is Tess company , maybe the best in zone in fitting hidraulic hosses
Mantis Community i weigth 34 and about 1,45cm and my bike starts best at 2 and a tip is to practice on 2nd and stamping in 3 before the curve and when you fu the start dont hold full gas almost full then when you let the (i font know it in english but its like a brake) you go full

WOW!.. That SUCKS.. What did the guy you borrowed it say to you?
Amazing how stable a human head gimbal is!! Awesome
Liked and Subscribed! Great Track, Where the Hell is it? Greetings from a Reno, Nevada, U S A Fan.
sounds like it was too lean / didnt get enough fuel

The motors cost about 5k-7k USD
The rider didnt do anything to cause the engine to stop. I'm not sure why the engine failed, but i'm sure it didnt "blow up".
Hope it wasn't too expensive repair..was sounding really good though..😉
that sounded expensive!!
Engine didn't sound healthy from the beginning.
Defo blown a valve 😂😂😂
Vilken bana?
What happened ?
it was the tip of the throttle needle that had broken in pieces and was blocking the fuel flow in the carburetor :)
It blew because it was running too lean so ?
yes because of this blocking it ran to lean and got to hot :)
where it is?

Why cut in the annoying helmet
Should have changed up to 2nd gear ;-)
I don't think speedway bikes have gears.
They have...one :-D But very old speedway bikes realy had a second gear.
Good idea, but first someone must build in a 2nd. gear ! ! LOL how little you know. !
This is speedway not grasstrack
they dont have gears maybe just a different gear ratio
