The Engineer that stopped just short of a flock of deer: Big thank you. For I know how hard that is to do, After Driving 18 wheelers for 35 years pulling 79,000 plus, you cannot stop for wildlife, they become victims of the road and rails too. But the wildlife in these videos are a treat as well as sunsets and snow trains, to the video staff of Virtual Railfan, I salute each one of you for a terrific job done in these videos shown each day, God Bless you all.

The fact that they pushed back into the yard likely means they were doing shunting operations. Shunting operations are usually done at relatively slow speeds for the safety of workers who have to couple and uncouple rolling stock. It would therefore be relatively easy for a train to come to a halt in a shorter distance than it would be if the train was a consist at track speed or on it's way to somewhere.

When I was 8 or 9, I was on the Capitol Limited and my father and I were in the dome car (this is before it was re-equipped with Superliners) with the conductor somewhere east of Pittsburgh at night and the train stopped middle of nowhere without a signal visible. Conductor called forward and turned out the train had hit a deer and the engine crew was needing to clean the lights and windshields because they couldn't see.

There is a video from the cab of CP train in northern Ontario, posted a few years ago, that showed the train running over a herd of deer trying to run away from train in the snow. You could hear the train crew shouting and hoping the deer would run away on the left or right rather than trying to outrun the train. The video was horrific and caused a lot of controversy in Canada. CP had to explain that the train could not be stopped since it was going uphill, if I remember correctly. Also, CP mentioned that the policy indicate trains cannot stop for wild life.

The Fort in Iowa it looks like a food grade spill! Tasty morsels of goodness! Waste not, want not may apply here...grain is indeed a Agriculture commodity. No hazmat needed here. Just hungry hungry animals!

0:47 what a cool sky to launch a rocket into
1:04 As a kid, I used to think contrails of planes way up high were spaceships. If I saw this myself today without knowing what it was, I would've thought it was a plane dumping fuel.
1:22 Amtrak business cars in Elkhart
    2:26 NS high hood geep
2:42 some ballast cars with conveyors in them and a Schnabel! What an unusual combination of cars on one train
4:50 another Schnabel, this is loaded and has a covered hopper and caboose surrounding it.
5:16 moving the Skykomish SD9, hopefully, to have its paint job completed. It's been here since 2013.
6:24 WOW! It even gets to ride right behind the BNSF locomotives wearing colors inspired by the Great Northern diesel
    8:50 repainted CEFX AC44CWs
    10:36 BNSF 7695 leading
12:34 signal goes from red to yellow
    13:06 so many birds!
    13:25 NS 1073 and 1121 on a UP train
13:54 these ballast conveyor cars are different than the ones seen in Elkhart but probably function in a similar way.
    14:44 warbonnets sandwiching a KCS dash 9
15:36 two warbonnets behind an NS unit
16:50 CSX OCS with 13 cars
18:12 I believe these small containers carry construction waste
18:37 this car running from the cops jumps as its hits the crossing. That could end the chase faster than spike strips, not to mention that road doesn't go very far and the chase would end up in the middle of a field
20:43 a lot more birds along the Mississippi River
21:55 a single dash 9 without any cars is sent to plow the tracks with its normal snowplow
22:22 wind turbine blades have perforations on them
22:50 WOW! UP new livery, NS black, the two KLWX experimental repowers, CP red, and CN on one train!
23:23 nice to see some P&W action
    23:34 Northern Pacific heritage hopper
    25:47 11 units on a mixed freight
27:12 three Ferromex SD70ACes, one in the new livery
    27:30 orange switcher in Chehalis
27:59 Amtrak 160 "Pepsi" leading the Coast Starlight
28:06 the new "No left turn" light is red and has a 🚫instead of words. I hope the old yellow one wasn't too damaged and finds a new home.

It hit my eyes right away as I see some on occasion pass WB thru Milwaukee on the CP en route to North Dakota. The first batch may have come from Birmingham as it has some BNSF flats. They 2nd batch maybe for a natural gas pipeline. The third group in gondolas brought a smile to my face as I had seen them in a 1\10 video shot in Marinette WI in a CN SB frt coming from Sault Ste Marie Ontario. They were in a cut of 13 gondolas which probably got split up in Chicago. Well in the Spirit of Uncle Jed with all that pipe he sure must have found a big patch of bubbling crude!

This is the SD-9 that had been stored in Skykomish Washington, for many years. Well it's on the move to a new home in Eastern Washington

Saving it from scrap. A museum in Reardan which also happens to have GN's other dynamic brake-equipped SD9 bought it, so now the two twins can live on together!

"Hello me, it's me again!" That's me at Ooltewah TN at 00:13 .
I highly recommend the Whistle Stop Café there. Aside from hosting our camera, they have a good food menu, amazing milkshakes and an open-air terrace on the third floor. Prices aren't bad and they show the live camera feed on a widescreen TV on the second floor, too!

I don't believe in reincarnation, but if I did, I would wonder whether deer and other animals killed on the railways would come back as the car drivers you see running level crossing barriers and/or driving down the road in La Grange into the path of a train. Just wondered.
