Every new thing he said... opened up another entire world of music. 64-step sequencer with XYZ mod control on each? Multiple LFO and five-point envelope with loop and assign to anything? Multiple VCO with variable digital oscillators? Microtuning? Crazy. Just crazy.
16:54 A WILD GAZ APPEARS
Great looking collaboration
That's the synth of the year I think
Looks like I'm going to be glued to sonicstate videos all day!
It really does sound sweet. A full filter sweep with all 6 oscillators is big and brutal.
One of the most impressive new synth designs I've seen in a while. It's nice to see new ideas and concepts instead of another reissue. Can't wait to buy this.
$999 for a Ableton push kinda controller/sequencer with the expression of a touche and a dreadbox poly attached - Yes f^&kin please!! Actually had me @ modulate everything.
This looks incredible. Gives me an "if Serum went part-analog and became hardware" vibe :)
Finally, a new analog synth with PERSONALITY! With a character that goes beyond 2 or 3 oscillators, a filter, a couple of envelopes and an lfo (Uno.......). THe 6 oscs will surely offer unique sonic potential :)
If this thing is actually capable of what this guy just said and for 999, this could be the synth of 2018. I just hope dreadbox keep up with the demand and they don’t run out for stock in two days.
The functionality of this thing is super-extensive, I don't think any normal user could come up with a modulation idea that they can't implement. All those envelopes, all those oscillators...! Very impressive!!!
This is a completely well thought out piece of kit designed and realized by fans of pure synth geeks. And major tour de force engineers who realized the opportunity that had been presented and knocked it out of the park with this one! Peace Christo 🎶🎶🕺🕺🤖🤖🛸✌🏻🛸🛸❤️👊🏼👍🏻👍🏻🙏🙏🐕🐕👏🏻👏🏻👽👽🔦🔦
"We go Bonkers!" love the excitement here! Thanks for the coverage team. Can't wait to hear this synth first hand!
Polyend are a great group of thinkers. They have created some great stuff. Really cool to see the Polyend ideas integrated with Dreadbox. This thing looks incredible.
So they basically took the Elektron workflow, got rid of all the nonsense, kept all the best bits and added tons more cool features. I'm in love.
What is the "nonsense" you refer to? I've only been able to play with a Digitakt for about 30 minutes with zero prior knowledge on how to use the thing, and I had a hard time figuring it out. But I was pressing buttons, they felt satisfying, and I was doing some cool stuff. Makes me want one for the satisfaction of figuring it out, haha.
My love for mechanical keyboards with a nice, satisfying tactile response probably helps.
@@mikeexits He is obviously talking out of his ass. This thing did not work out so well for Polyend, but I am glad because I got it for around 500€ and it is amazing, but comparing this to Elektrons robust sequencing is the nonsense. Medusa sadly has only one sequence per patch, that means whatever amazing you can make those 64 steps, it ends up there and you need to change to another patch if you want another sequence (that´s not very good for live performance). From what I read, they did this purposely so you do not get the full functionality of their other sequencers. However, if I understand it correctly they later added possibility to control voices on multiple midi channels by external gear - so I am excited to sequence each of its 6 oscillators on different sequence using that "nonsensical Elektron box".
Damn this thing is just insane. This is mindblowing.
Love the functionality. Everything to everywhere is very liberating. And the amount of ENVs and LFOs is pretty nutty.
superbooth 2018!!!!!!!!!! what great stuff this year. sonicstate you guys rock!
Gorgeous. I'm loving several of these mono synths coming out, lately.
This one is paraphonic not monophonic.
Looks absolutely awesome.
oh god, that's much more then what I expected
I agree, definitely one of the best synths of the year!!!!
That is an incredible synth right there.
Most fun synth box I've seen ever. GAS
Oh shit! I've been waiting for this!
This thing is insane! Amazing!
Instant buy. My music will be happy to have this
Wow, incredible!!
Excited!
Had no idea about the wave tables. This thing looks crazy.
Polyend kicks ass! This is amazing and then the reduction in price of the SEQ?! Amazing!
The more I watch the more I know there is NO way around this!!!!!! A snapshot/preset on EACH pad!!!!!! Is this REAL??? Madness. Can you imagine the scope of this feature alone?????
Well. Goodbye OP-Z, Hello Medusa! It seems like Launchpad Pro and Peak had an affaire with a SEQ and everything turned out perfect!
okeribok I was strongly considering the novation peak and the OPZ until I saw this 6 osc man all it needs is real time sequencing but hey I got a Digitone and a mpc so this totally works
I’ll surely get one. I only wish it had stereo outputs, allowing for panning of sources.
I think "Chimera" would have been a better name for this synth. It does look fantastic though.
I agree that Chimera "feels right," but Medusa is easier to pronounce and more recognizable.
Craig Z I was thinking the same thing- Chimera it is!!!
Crai
So many amazing synths! This, the new DSI, the low cost IK Multimedia, on and on...Gotta put a lock on the wallet!
Superb!!!
This synth is bonkers, and I mean that in the best way possible!
Is it best synth 2018 ? It's depth of possibilities is crazy ,wow
A patch sequencer - very, very cool.
This device will explode a million heads at late night techno parties in 2019.
I love it!
It sounds sweet. Yanni had told me that the digital oscillators sounded almost exactly like the analog oscillators, and it's true. All 6 osc's humming together were brutal with a filter sweep. They really went to town with the digital side, as Piotr kind of says. The paraphonic mode isn't working yet, but the intent is it will be either 3 voice with 2 osc's or 6 voice with 1 osc paraphonic. Uh...which he basically says at the end of the video, lol. Not as important, but it really is a good looking synth too.
Import our own wavetables? 😍 Hell to the yes!! Will we be able to import wavetables made with the Serum vst synth? 😵
yeah i think so! it could be great :D
Tbh this is a steal! Ableton push is like $600-700 and this is only $1000 no software needed!😎👌
Was going to buy a digitone but think I'll wait for this. More bucks but my god it looks really deep. Exciting.
love this
I might get one. It seems very interesting. The price is what I was expecting.
Incredible functionality for 999. This is like a workstation. Additionally. Piotr way of playing is a bit Akai Dan 'esque :)
WHOA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that is awesome
This thing is fantastic. All it needs is some DAW integration. I'm sure it will have some software support at some point.
Oh yes. I am making space for this. Maschine Jam on steroids without the need to connect to a computer. I'm definitely having some of that lol
Dedicated target/destination knobs? And the oscilloscope reacts to envelope changes? Five, not four, LFOs? I might die. Is this The Hydra or the Medusa?
Kool, definitely interesting! :)
damn i love the age we are livin in WOW!!! guys for real
Shipping in September at $1000 it is mine for sure !
Genius
so you can add some of the classic Massive wave-tables to this :-) but only 20 per patch or 20 global?
Exceptional
Wow - dang SonicState my GAS is getting worse and wallet is creaking with each new video! :-) Did not expect to like this as much when the vid started - fascinating!
i need this
A launchpad w/ 6 oscillators I’m interested
8:55 Love that resonance.
Is it possible to shift the octaves down without looping to the end? Perhaps a SHIFT button press with the OCTAVE button? That would make the synth much more playable if this is possible.
Yes it will be possible, you'll be able to transpose your sequence in the arp mode of Medusa. Thanks for asking, Best.
Great looking and sounding synth. It would have been great to see the nice reverbs that they used for the Erebus and Nyx.
didn’t they say it had all types of effects?
Looking at the specs it doesn't seem to have any effects at all which I feel is a bad choice. May not be a deal breaker though.
I didn't think it had effects. Doesn't stop having a nice post pedal chain to compliment it though! :)
There will be no onboard FX in Medusa.
WHEN WHEN WHEN ????
think this can sequence external gear on top? (like a real polyend) any know?
Yes, Medusa has a one track sequencer which can at the same time operate the internal sound module and any other external source over MIDI DIN or MIDI over USB.
what a monster
VERY cool
Just tell me the price and when its available. I will buy this definitly!!!
Medusa should be ready late summer August/September 2018 at 999€.
very cool thing here ! Now a CV pacth bay expaander please :)
Sebastien Leger polyend.com/poly
PLEASE ADD THE SCALA TUNINGS!
There will be a ton of orders for this one. Peace 🎶🎶🎶👏🏻👏🏻👽👽🐕🐕🙏🙏🛸🛸👍🏻👍🏻✌🏻✌🏻🔦🔦🕺🕺
Sounds crazy from a technical perspective. But the sound didnt really convince me.
I see it's the year of hybrids. Waldorf Quantum, Prophet X, Dreadbox Medusa... What's next?
i love the functionality and 6paraphonic mode minus the sequencer.
Excuse my language .UUUCK!!! This is going to be insane!
I am wondering if I can afford it and how long till I can get one? This just might be a great replacement for a few of my synths that take up so much space in my small studio check out my Reverb page. Bat cave Records as I am going to start selling stuff today to get the cash for the first run of these !
Monster synth.
What happened to the original MEDUSA prototype??
James Reeno it's doing well, thank you.
just going to set up a direct debit to dreadbox soon and let them send me everything they make
This looks pretty awesome actually.
Why did they put the grid on the left side ?
turn it upside down:P
Because its more of a sequencer and modulation grid than a keyboard.
Maybe they had more space left on the left
Yep, it's very counter-intuitive for performance. Should definitely be on the right.
Finally throwing a bone to us left handers!
Where you at MatrixBrute?
What IO does this have? Any CV in/out? Midi in/out?
Thomas Synths MIDI input/output/thru
Thomas Synths polyend.com/poly
Interesting module. Thanks for the link.
Nick, run back and give us some sense comparing pads to launchpad pro or the Push2 ...not sure if this new company can make sensitive and reliable pads especially with third dimension THANKS for these great vids
Imagine trying to use this when youre stoned...
Wantwantwant….
incredible instrument, though I wish they would've come up with a better drum kit than that to showcase its potential as a drum synth.
Fancy. But isn't this just a more complicated Elektron?
Wasn't the Medusa supposed to be a cheaper Dreadbox? Around 429€ or something?
But I had a feeling that was out the window when I heard Polyend got involved.
I mean it looks pretty darn awesome, but 1000€ seems steep for a paraphonic synth with a Launchpad attached.
What monitors is he using - those look sick, too ... ??
Kieren Moore I guess new ones from Adam. Looks lika a Adam tweeter.
Adam s3x-v!
Thanks!!
This is very exciting! But they should have put the button matrix to the right, because if one would play the synth with the buttons, then doing it with right hand would be the most usual choice. I hope they'll change that :)
As a leftie and a pianist, I was wondering why people felt the grid was on the "wrong" side.
When we're at it, the best way to do it would be so that it is detachable and can attach to both sides.
Can the pads also be used as a clip launcher for ableton? Does it have some kind of MIDI mode where you can use it as a controller as well?
The pads will be able to send the notes out and a simple sequence of notes, so you can probably use it for launching midi clips in any DAW. There will be no special MIDI mode in Medusa thou.
Can you layer tracks on this unit ? Can you put drums on top of synths etc
Cult Snarez the Medusas sequencer is a one track 64 steps type, it has 6 voices so and the Grid allows you to make complex sequences based on these 6 voices.
fuck! I want it!
0:04 Synthmonger
for what all those Ableton Push kind of drum pads when you play it usually with a keyboard? ridiculous imo.
but if you can use them for ableton too, that would be a useful bonus.
what is the speaker in this video?
Gaz in the background :-)
Modwheel, Pitchbend wheel. Where they are?
The pads are 3d pressure sensitive with assignable targets like pitchbend or modulation and almost every other parameter of the synth.
I'm not a synth wizard but after a while it seems a little bit complicated
