That's a pretty incredibly well put together set. Would be great if the bigger publishers legitimately released stuff like this. It would be the gaming equivalent of a well put together film boxed set.
I nerded out a little at that Godzilla game the moment I noticed all the little background details.
Mellow Gaming I agree. I'd love it. I'm not a big fan of the huge box stuff with figures and statues. I'd rather have something about the size of this and Working Design's PSX stuff. That will sit next to my regular games and not be gigantic.
Glad you guys posted this. I've got my 1st RGB/Region modded Duo-R on the way and wasn't looking forward to paying ebay prices for OG discs. Burning copies is an option, but their releases look amazing.
Excellent show as always! But I can't help wondering: Are the repros even close to legal? If not, are they just hoping that the IP holders won't care?

Just got all the caps replaced in my TurboDuo and Express and can't wait to get them back! PCE Works are kind of known for being shady though -- might want to do an update.

Kind of wish they had just translated the mini-game in Godzilla: Battle Legends, it'd be easy points to unlocking more final bosses.

I just got into PC Engine emulation a few years back. The library of games I missed out on as a kid is saddening. The PCE had some solid diamond gems and really good ports.
I just got the PCE Mini and it’s soooooo freaking cool to have an official way to play PCE games with the official style controllers
These came from tobias in Germany same guy who made the sapphire repos and tried to pass em off as the real deal on ebay with his fake hudson soft letter saying they were second print atleast now hes not trying to pass off as real

Now there are out there a number of repro copies of different games very difficult to differentiate from the original.
I just got a Duo R with an RGB mod last week and I've been playing a lot of great PCE CD games. The reproduction set you showed off does look cool but for me I have no problem just simply burning the games since I already went to a lot of trouble to get the unit and I just want to play the games on the original hardware. Someday though it definitely would look much better on my shelf to have something like what you showed instead of a bundle of CD-Rs.

Wow, this was a beautifully edited unboxing. Excellent video as usual, Mr. Coury. I really enjoyed your analyses of the games included here, especially since I haven't had much experience with PC Engine/Turbo Duo stuff...hopefully to be rectified sometime soon. ;)
Jimmy Hapa (Import Gaming FTW!) Thanks! I'd never really done anything like this before, so I was very happy with the way it came out. I'm so into the system right now, I feel like its all I want to play and buy games for - but that's so expensive right now, so its taking a bit of time.
They could get a Godzilla license but they couldn't port Street Fighter 2.
I just got this in the mail. Great set. You can also play them in an emulator. I loaded Godzilla up on Retroarch to test it out.
Hey, folks. Retro streams every day. Quest for completing every good game on every console existing. Now i'm playing PC Engine. Comments are in Russian, but I also understand English, French and Italian.
The 2D Godzilla fighters (Battle Legends and Great Monster War) don't get enough loves. For example, where's the good Godzilla games everyone wants? Well, those are them.
For the Godzilla game you might need the NEC Avenue Pad 6 for the extra moves? I'm not sure.
It comes with a Godzilla sticker? Does that mean this is an official item?
Indie Games Searchlight Not official as far as I can tell. I think its the group just celebrating in their own way.
I do need to collect Dungeon Keeper for the Mega CD one day.
Do I need to make any modifications to get these reproductions to play on original hardware?

[Try4ce] Yes! We don't know for sure when it will hit. We wanted to do it a long time ago, but we don't have everything we need to do it right now. It's definitely a priority for us to get back to.

I ordered one of these and it didn't have Dungeon Explorer 2, yet it still costs the same price as when it used to include the game. I didn't realize it till after I already bought it. Plus if you look at the photo of the set on his webpage it STILL shows Dungeon Explorer 2...it's like he's tricking you into thinking you're paying for something you aren't really getting. What a complete ripoff!

What I meant was I paid for it but didn't see that DEII wasn't included till after I paid because the "availability" page shows the photo with all 4 games but the old page where he first announced the box says it will NOT be included. How long ago did you order yours? I don't see how he couldn't include it because the box holds 4 discs and it has the artwork for all 4 games on it. I was kinda hoping it was still included but he just didn't mention it. I mean the whole thing is sketchy to begin with...he didn't ask permission to use fan translations plus he sold fake Sapphire bootlegs years ago
TheBadcompany25 it says on the page he stopped selling it due to a copyright claim by one of the voice actors. Knowing him though, he most likely is still including it, he just isn't mentioning that it's included just to cover his ass. I mean the thing still costs the same price as the other set that has 4 games so it SHOULD still be in there

However I didn't receive the "limited edition coin" that was supposedly going to come with all orders...I kinda dont care as I didn't really want that anyway

What's the legality of these? Isn't this the same as paying someone to pirate the game for you? I get it, these are long out of print and I am seriously tempted to buy the Bonk 3, but are these actually legal?
John Sundberg [Coury] Reproductions in general are a massive gray area. Sure its producing bootleg versions of these games, but its rampant especially on 16 bit systems these days. These at least have a bit more effort put in that you could rationalize that you're paying for the packaging itself and not the bootleg games.
Some of the games have fan translations patched into them as well - and that even makes it tougher. Those fans don't have legal right to hack the game and alter it's source code. So even that, the legality is questionable. I just think its not mass produced enough to even warrant the effort of the companies.
+John Sundberg The companies that made these consoles don't stand to gain any money from them. The patents on retro consoles up to the N64 have now expired. What does this tell you?

David Medina it runs 119 Euros, which translates to about 150 USD. Considering that the games in this box would run over 1,000 USD for them all, its well worth it.
Whoa that's a steal. I don't even have a Duo yet. Maybe I should consider getting these repros first before they are no longer being made
+David Medina they made only 100 of every piece, almost all sold out...you should buy it until you can :)
