  • In this episode of The Surfcast Podcast, Jerry and Toby talk with Matt Broderick, the managing editor of the Long Island edition of The Fisherman Magazine and an extremely well-rounded surf, boat, and freshwater angler. While they touch upon a few different subjects, they primarily discuss fishing outflows and jetties for striped bass. From seasons to bait, and techniques to tides, they break down how you can catch more fish from these fishy but sometimes forgotten hot spots.

As a guy who is newer to salt water fishing and specifically shore and jetty fishing; there is definitely a hint of that feeling of wanting to have it all happen immediately. I know how to fish, it should translate immediately! I have to remind myself that failure is always a part of anything worthwhile. Outflows and tidal rivers and estuaries set-up differently and there are adjustments to be made. I'm already improving as I've started keeping logs and taking notes on why things work in certain conditions. It's all the difference in being a casual fisherman and a real stick. Gotta be a little humble and know you have more to learn.

packed with useful information and opinions, not surprised at the quality of this podcast. Matt, Toby and Jerry we really enjoyed this episode to the point of " hey, rewind that for me" several times. Working inlets is difficult, dangerous at times and also a helluva rewarding way to spend a tide. Tip of the helmet- job well done lads.
