50 Years Celebrating Mel Showers - WKRG

A compilation of WKRG celebrating veteran anchor Mel Showers in the weeks leading up to his retirement on 5/22/19. This package includes clips of Mel reflecting on the biggest stories, technology changes, and remembering his co-workers from his 50 year career, interviews with former Anchor/Reporter Stu Kellogg, and a piece about how Mel was one of the first black reporters in the Mobile-Pensacola television market and the first African-American to anchor an evening newscast. It also includes a news clip of Mel being named a "Journalist of Distinction" by the National Association of Black Journalists, as well as the City of Mobile declaring May "Mel Showers Month". Enjoy.
