    Lots of criticism on their forum. Pointed out that Lightroom has iPad app included in subscription. And that there are still plenty of issues with main program that need to be addressed. Like, how about a decent manual? I had days of frustration to get proper operation under Win11, and their "help"? Well it couldn't.

    • @DigitalPhotoMentor
      @DigitalPhotoMentor 4 місяці тому

      Sure but if you buy the Luminar Neo 2 year plan for $119 and 2 years for the iPad you're paying $179 over 2 years instead of $240 for Adobe. So which is the better price?

  • @markhorst3628
    @markhorst3628 4 місяці тому +3

    Thanks Jim
    I tried the app and watched the video and tried app again.
    I’m disappointed that it’s another subscription. If they want to stand out among the other mobile editors, another subscription plan is not the way to do it. I’ve been with Luminar for quite some time and have adjusted to some of their price changes , but I have been very frustrated too. I don’t think like you said this is any kind of a replacement for Lightroom mobile. The interface is cute but for me that doesn’t mean much.
    So wish Luminar the best in their start up and hopefully some dramatic improvements to set them apart from all the other mobile editors. When I think about what Apple photos will do this, other than some of the AI is not special.
    I’m not trying to be negative, but I was looking for something , that would completely amaze me not just offer me something less than or similar to something else

      Hi Mark and no worries. I do think it will evolve over time and get more features, etc. For now it's not a desktop/laptop replacement but a good app for quick edits etc. Thanks.

    Very interesting. It has potential! I’d like to see some more of the features from Luminar Neo ported over. At some point I’d also like to see both this and Luminar Neo sync to a cloud service. Downloaded the app last night. Just started using it, and am enjoying it so far. One thing I found wonkey, is the import of photos from Apple Photos. They are all put of order (chronologically). Trying to find a specific photo I want to edit, is challenging. Even if I know the date the photo was shot, because all photos imported in a random order, finding the photo is difficult and really time consuming!

    • @JimNix
      @JimNix  3 місяці тому

      That's good to know. I only had a few images in iCloud that could sync with this app so I didn't really run into that one.

    Hi Jim, thanks for this update. Does this replace imgmi? I have been waiting for an iPad editor from Luminar for some time now. A while ago I started using ON1 Photo for my iPad and have found it pretty useful for quick edits. Obviously it does not have all of the tools available in Photo Raw 2024 but it does have masking in a limited capacity and it is easy to use. Wondered if you have had any experience with it?

    • @JimNix
      @JimNix  4 місяці тому

      Thanks Frank and no I have not tried the On1 Mobile app yet. Perhaps I will check it out. I am not sure about imgmi but I am guessing that app will fade away so to speak. I never used it myself. This app is branded Luminar so I suspect it is their real focus between the two.

    Thanks Jim! This seems pretty powerful for a mobile app. The controls are perfect for controlling with your fingers, very well done. I'm a bit sad it is subscription only, but being a fan of Luminar products I might set aside my principles.
    I have 2 questions, I hope you can answer them. Is the iOS version the only requirement, or is a minimum iPad model required as well? Is there a need to be connected to the internet to use this app? I own a wifi-only 10th gen regular iPad, that's why I am asking.

      Good questions. I am not sure if iOS17 is the only requirement - I have asked them and will share when I find out. I suspect iOS17 only works on more recent models but that is just a guess. I definitely am no going to try it on my old iPad Mini from 7 years ago. For usage, you do not need to be on the internet. You need internet to get the photos in it of course, but otherwise no internet is needed for the actual editing. My iPad Pro is wifi only too.

    This is very cool--thanks for the overview, Jim! Very creative and out-of-the-box thinking on the interface. I'll bet there are some Star Trek fans at Skylum! Doesn't Luminar have another app called Luminar Share? You should do a video showing how we can use these two apps together to shuttle images to and from our Luminar catalog. One question: will Luminar Neo subscribers have access to this app, or do we have to pay for another subscription?

One in the first few years so many things didn’t work as well as advertised originally and more recently all the next level features were added plugins that cost extra. And of course the monthly subscription. I spent so many frustrating hours that gave up on them some time ago but hope all has worked out for the new users and the die hard faithfulls.
