- Shannon King, 22, was sentenced to four years and 10 months in prison for driving drunk in January 2024 and hitting two women. St. Johns County Sheriff's body cameras recorded witness interviews, deputies conducting field sobriety tests with King along with her talking to deputies. Law&Crime's Angenette Levy goes through the footage from that night in this episode of Crime Fix - a daily show covering the biggest stories in crime.

How hard is it to not drink & drive? Make the punishment more severe, 4 years seems too lenient
It's absolutely ridiculous how lenient they are with them. I've heard of two cases in my state where someone got 7 or 8 DUIs and still had a driver's license. I have an uncle that has gotten 4 DUIs and still has his too.

Less than a 5 year sentence after driving drunk and hitting 2 women causing serious injuries? Should have been longer than that
But we all know why she doesn’t have a longer sentence.
She doesn’t know anything but she knows what the legal limit is in Florida. Disgrace.
They beat it into you down here. I knew what it was before I was even of driving age.
I knew the limit when I was like 12, I feel like you couldn't watch tv from 1999-2009 without hearing what the limit is.
It’s kind of weird for her to know the legal limit but still think it’s ok to drink more than 1 drink and then drive! @@shawnmaria9064 Just because people know the legal limit doesn't mean they know how much to drink to get to that. It isn't even the same per person per volume of alcohol. That being said, most of the incidents in these videos seem to be WAY more than a couple of drinks.
@ No matter how much they drank or if they knew how many to drink to be over the limit in order to drive doesn’t really matter because at the end of the day they will be sentenced if found guilty and we can only hope they learned the lesson to not take chances or rely on their own opinion whether they can drive after drinking.

You just drive with yer toes 🥴🤢🥹
I have no sympathy W?o the ad campaign. Anyone old enough to drive a car should simply know better.
DUI is one of the crimes that should have absolutely ZERO tolerance. It NEVER has to happen. You make the choice to do it before you ever take a drink. There is no I had no other choice. You need to make sure you have a guaranteed ride home before you drink and not get so sloshed you can’t realize that you’re unsafe to drive. I’m so tired of seeing DUIs getting a slap on the wrist MULTIPLE times especially in my state. These judges need to be held accountable for dropping charges and giving them “probation” and/or not suspending their licenses.
Nah, that should be using a phone while driving! Automatic licence suspension and prison time! Causes more injures and death than the DWI sacred cow!
I mostly agree, although most other crimes never have to happen either. The only crimes I’d say are somewhat ‘accidental’ are involuntary manslaughter or if you’re an accomplice in a crime where one of your accomplices ‘pops’ someone but it wasn’t agreed to.
Then you got The Station nightclub owners who got charged (only one went to prison) and they never meant for the fire to happen - which that was really an “out for blood” trial. I get they needed to hold someone responsible but there’s other ways to do that. It’s not like anyone meant for all those people to perish and they didn’t authorize the use of fireworks either, the band manager did. But I digress… unless what you’re doing is intentional, the “crime” shouldn’t be charged as a crime.

6:09 this young lady seems to have a solid head on her shoulders instead of a ton of useless emotions.
She could definitely have a future in any of these first responder fields.
My last drink was two years ago at least When i went off the road, hurt nobody, ruined my car. Went to rehab , 2 actually. The 1st one kicked me out for relapsing. I no longer have cravings, dealing with health issues from drinking...but have improved. Blood test, liver scan, brain scan , all normal now
Its always not even a scratch on the drunk driver themselves. Ironic
Miss kings gotta be the most polite and well mannered drunk person I’ve ever seen on UA-cam. Congratulations on your upbringing, great job.
So glad I'm alcohol intolerant. Drunk drivers can be lethal.
I'm not intolerant and I'm enjoying a bourbon and coke now. I don't drink and drive!!
There's a lot more accidents caused by sober drivers. I'm no mathmagician but I'm not risking driving before I've had 8-10 beers and a couple shots.
@@aaadamt964 The NTSB also says most drunk driving accidents happen within 5 miles of your home so make sure to drink at bars further away from your house and then drive to a friend's to sleep it off. It's much lower risk that way.
@@aaadamt964 It's pretty obvious you've been drinking. Had a nephew who died from drinking and his mother was an alcoholic and aliented her entire family. Cheers or Salute!
@Trishmurphy-y1p
Men who have been unfortunate enough to wake up with you must be pretty alcohol-intolerant too.
That's my home county. It's a bunch of rich kids with no accountability.
4 years. 10 months?? That's it ??
I’m a recovering alcoholic and I never made the moronic decision to drive drunk. Having a disease doesn’t put you behind the wheel drunk. Absolutely ZERO excuses for people to drive drunk. And I have ZERO sympathy for anyone arrested for DUI
Every time i watch a Law and Ad Crime channel i go heres comes the sponsor lol. I would rather watch raw body cam and guess then hear L&C’s narrator about to plug theyre sponsor lol
just skip it
“Next time you drunkenly mow down pedestrians on the sidewalk, make sure to call Morgan & Morgan” 😅
I just FF through it. On a desktop, just hit your L key to go through 10 seconds at a time. The amateur commentators are just as bad as the painful ads. And they repeat what we have already watched. There are much better DUI channels out there if that is what you prefer to watch.
Ask for your money back.
@@NChant101 from who morgan and morgan lol or for watching the l&c channel
I've been hit by a car as a pedestrian and severely injured. If those women live, they've got a long road ahead of them. It's completely unfair. I hope they recover. This shouldn't have happened.
Well damn Her passenger acted worse than the drunk did
4 yrs 10 months in prison ,not sure if thats enough time.
4Y10M in prison, meanwhile that student's recovery time, maybe to be able to walk and run like she used to, and play soccer at the collegiate level is over. She might be back to normal in 4Y 10M.
It sucks when spoiled rotten brats grow into young “adults” parents need to say no
masterful camerawork throughout this video
Creepy ASF
@@BeeatrixAlmost as creepy as your pfp
Wow! So she is complaining that she just turned 21 a few weeks ago and she needs to pee and she is scared and her mom is scared! Did she even ask about the 2 women she hit with her car? She knew the legal limit is .08 so she understands what’s happening and she is showing no concern for the actual victims because she is trying to play the victim card herself! Oh yes and I forgot the handcuffs hurt! Let’s all demand for handcuffs that don’t hurt and that are comfortable to wear. Shall we demand fuzzy handcuffs for them due to her pain?
"These handcuffs hurt!" The irony is completely lost on her.
DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE!!!!!
I can order a taxi without even making a phone call, infact i can order a taxi for the future while im sober so when im drunk i have a go home time and a safe ride for everyone....there should ve zero tolerance for drunk drivers and a universal punishment nationwide of losing your license
Anyone want to bet this was NOT her first DWI?
"Drunk Florida Woman" - Oh, this could be anything.... "Plows Down Two People on Sidewalk" - No surprise at all.
For the Generation that grew up with Lyft and Uber? No excuses. She ruined hers and everyone else's life.
And nowadays, pocket breathalyzers are only $20 for a cheapo, $50 for reliable medium tier, and ~$70 for high quality fuel cell. When I started drinking more I bought one so I could know my BAC based on how I feel and how much I drank. I can pretty much exactly guess my BAC now.
You should never drive if you have even sipped an alcoholic drink period .
Is it really that hard to not drink and drive? I’ve managed to do it for the last 29 years. It seems more and more people just cannot help themselves from getting wasted, and instead of calling an Uber or Lyft, jumping in their car and causing a horrendous accident. And they always walk away with no injuries at all. Disgusting.
We have an entitlement epidemic in the US. As also evidenced by the way her friend acted and countless other body cam videos. Sad.
