- The best batman movies ranked (by Rotten Tomatoes) shows the timeline of highest grossing batman movies as well as the best batman movies of all time from the year 1989 to 2022. In this video, the list ranks the batman movies by best in ratings as well as grossing using the comparison Bar Chart Race graph. It is a visual representation of data which highlights the best batman movies over time. Note that the gross number represents the worldwide box-office gross in dollars and the list is not adjusted for inflation.
The fictional superhero Batman, who appears in American comic books published by DC Comics, has appeared in various films since his inception. Created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger, the character first starred in two serial films in the 1940s: Batman and Batman and Robin. The character also appeared in the 1966 film Batman, which was a feature film adaptation of the 1960s Batman TV series starring Adam West and Burt Ward, who also starred in the film. Toward the end of the 1980s, the Warner Bros. studio began producing a series of feature films starring Batman, beginning with the 1989 film Batman, directed by Tim Burton and starring Michael Keaton. Burton and Keaton returned for the 1992 sequel Batman Returns, and in 1995, Joel Schumacher directed Batman Forever with Val Kilmer as Batman. Schumacher also directed the 1997 sequel Batman & Robin, which starred George Clooney. Batman Forever and Batman & Robin were poorly received by both critics and fans, leading to the cancellation of Batman Unchained.
Following the cancellation of two further film proposals, the franchise was rebooted in 2005 with Batman Begins, directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Christian Bale. Nolan returned to direct two further installments through the release of The Dark Knight in 2008 and The Dark Knight Rises in 2012, with Bale reprising his role in both films. Both sequels earned over $1 billion worldwide, making Batman the second film franchise to have two of its films earn more than $1 billion worldwide. Referred to as "The Dark Knight Trilogy", the critical acclaim and commercial success of Nolan's films have been credited with restoring widespread popularity to the superhero, with the second installment considered one of the best superhero movies of all time.
After Warner Bros. launched their own shared cinematic universe known as the DC Extended Universe in 2013, Ben Affleck was cast to portray Batman in the new expansive franchise, first appearing in 2016 with the Zack Snyder-directed film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The film would begin a sequence of further DC Comics adaptations, including Justice League and Zack Snyder's Justice League crossover films featuring other DC Comics characters, and the stand-alone film #thebatman, directed by Matt Reeves, with Robert Pattinson in the role. Affleck and Keaton will both reprise the role of #batman in the upcoming DCEU film The Flash (2022). Leslie Grace will lead the HBO Max film Batgirl (2022), in which Keaton will also reprise his role.
The series has grossed over $4.99 billion at the global box office, making it the eleventh highest-grossing film franchise of all time. Batman has also appeared in multiple animated films, both as a starring character and as an ensemble character. While most animated films were released direct-to-video, the 1993 animated feature Batman: Mask of the Phantasm (based on the 1990s Batman: The Animated Series) and 2017's The Lego Batman Movie (a spin-off of 2014's The Lego Movie) were released theatrically. Having earned an unadjusted total of U.S. $2,783,118,504, the Batman series is the fourth-highest-grossing film series in North America.

Honestly, I don’t think Aaron Eckhart gets enough praise when it comes to his role as Two-Face, I mean it would have to take some serious acting skills to pull off a D.A. that turns evil because of his loved one, don’t get me wrong Heath Ledger was incredible as Joker, but people seem to skip over Aaron Eckhart’s performance

It was good not because of the Batman but because of the whole story and the villains particularly Joker. Heath Ledger's Joker IMO was the one who hyped the whole film.. Bale' s Batman was a lost cosplayer with a soar throat hehe

Batman v Superman [Ultimate Edition] is a modern masterpiece from comic-book/superhero genre.
It definitely is not THE best (since TDK and 2022's The Batman are superior ones) but it's really great, it's very underrated and a massively misunderstood & over-hated film too.

Dark Knight Rises beat the Dark Knight because that movie was solid. Even if you don't like Batman it's a good movie on its own. Dark Knight Rises wasn't nearly as good, yet beat the predecessor because of the popularity of the previous film.

I love DKR maybe a little more than DK. I know it’s not as good, but the movie rides so well off the first 2. I know it’s not a perfect movie, but it gives a perfect ending to an absolutely phenomenal trilogy.
DKR is actually better imo as a whole . I think Dark Knight is still phenomenal, but the joker was so iconic it's what people place on that pedestal. As a movie, including action and story line, I think DKR is the better film . IMHO

I'd say it's most underrated in Sam Raimi trilogy. And has everything I often miss in New Marvel movies: Those big heroes never get to face problems of a normal human like peter, batman does and effect on other people around those super heroes.
Although, I'd still stick with tdk because of great cinematography, effects, dialogues and obviously acting. It may sound half baked but there are many things I wanted to write but cannot remember r8 now.

My first Batman was the "Dark Knight", a great trilogy by the way. But my favorite was “Batman Vs Superman”, it was a movie with a great milestone in my childhood, seeing two great DC heroes battling was one of the reasons for my interest in Super Heroes

My #2 is a close contender and more comic book accurate.
But Gotham City as a "character" shines better in #1, and the costumes and overall visual style is flawless. You could even mute the entire soundtrack and enjoy it as a silent movie.
I also love the city's portrayal in "Joker" and the TV series "Gotham".

well we first have one of the hottest snyder slow mo sequences as he initiates the traumatic events of young bruce acts like i'm reading a graphic novel although i have to say the waynes deaths are stupid i mean walking dead tohmas hits a gunman and walking dead martha also attacks him in Batman begins it was much more tragic but then we see what Superman has done in metropolis from the perspective of a human and it's crazy to see what was really going on and then I also buy the bats for the masses killer, in contrast to you, Keaton becomes Psycho and then we have a lot of Superman but I'm talking about Batman now and what Ben Affleck delivers in terms of acting is amazing, which is why I also understand why he now wants to kill Superman and Batman's relationship with both Diana and Batman in general Alfred too, although Alfred is much too young and I have to say I also think Diana Doomsday and the Justice League h we had nothing to do with it and when I look at lex I don't see lex but marc but still the cinematography the actors and the fights are all awesome I might have seen more bvs but the fight is awesome anyway oh and spoiler alert the last 30 minutes are justice league prequels and doomsday itself looks like the tmnt fucked lotr and everyone really everyone knew clarke was coming back but in the end i will say the pictures the action and the development of bats and supes makes me love this movie and after the snyder cut i love this movie even more in the end there is 10/10 as gere and 6-9 as a general movie and i was always a bit more dc than marvel anyway

Batman Returns is criminally underrated. Easily the best non-Nolan Batman film, and maybe better than the weakest Nolan film (it's been too long for me to remember how the Nolan films compare to each other).
The 1989 movie, Batman Animated Series, Dark Knight, and The Batman are the only ones I will acknowledge. The rest is just Hollywood milking a cash cow.
The Dark Knight was a good movie but not from Bale's Batman, it's good because Heath Ledger was amazing Joker. That's why people love so much this movie. In my opinion Zack Snyder's Justice League and Batman v Superman was amazing movies and i think best Batman is Ben Affleck so far. (But i didn't watch The Batman still)

Yes its true Joker is the best part of The Dark Knight, but in terms of Writing? The Dark Knight is easily the Best DC movie with The Joker right behind it.
I get all of yall don't actually like movies, but here's the thing. The Dark Knight is celebrated as the best because how tightly written the movie is. I can go on about this, but It'd be a massive essay. So I'll point you towards many of the video essays about The Dark Knight on why it succeeds at being more than a super hero movie. To think Snyder or anybody else can write a tighter plot than Christopher Nolan is baffling. None of them has the credentials like Christopher Nolan.
Batman: The killing joke is criminally underrated. I thought it was really good.
