Where's he from? I only know the name Shango as an African (i believe specifically Yoruba, if i'm not mistaken) storm god with a double-sided axe for a symbol.
Ahh. I remember this game well. At the original time of its release (on Xbox), it was known for having the largest Boss in videogame history. Kind of taking advantage of the HD and the memory advantage of the Xbox in order to produce such fight.
Phill Spencer's favorite Xbox game. He loves it. Yet he won't bother to help make a sequel. But then again, I'm not sure if I'd want a sequel. Voodoo Vince was a mascot, kinda. There's also Blinx, but Microsoft completely forgot about him. (edit) Matt, I don't know if you've played on the channel, but Akuji the Heartless is one game that comes to mind that has voodoo magic, both gameplay and story plot.
I know people have started to turn on Phil Spencer lately, deserved or not the state of the xbone is what it is under his watch, tons of jobs lost, but when he's moved on if nothing else he'll have Voodoo Vince as part of his legacy. I mean that too. I don't think a lot of executives would have green lit this game. But Phil looked at a game, one he supposedly had a fondness for, that probably had no real chance of being a huge money maker but was by all accounts just a solid little 3d platformer and said Yes. Yes, we will spend a bunch of money and put out a fun niche videogame remaster on our videogame playing machine. It won't move the needle but it won't be financially detrimental either. It's a weirdly refreshing attitude from an executive. Shame things didn't work out.
Voodoo Vince! Great OG Xbox game, if you’re looking for others I’d recommend Phantom Dust, a deck builder/fighting game (not really, but Microsoft considers it a fighting game) that got a remaster for PC / Xbox in back in 2017
This game always makes me think of another weird Xbox platformer, Dr Muto. You played as a mad scientist that could transform into different creatures, it was super off the wall. Man I played the demo for that so many times in my teens, but yknow, who knows if it was actually any good it not Anyway I'd love to see you give it a go! I think it's right up your alley
Burlesque is a performance art usually involving songs, dance, and a classy version of a strip tease. It's a very adult show but high end. The las vegas strip has multiple types to see.
For a definition of a Roustabout, which i remember from trying to look up circus and jester terminology: It's a term for a simple circus worker who isn't an artist or performer, but helps with setting stuff up, taking care of the artists/animals, maintaining the tent and equipment, etc. Am i correct in remembering this meaning with this definition?
That's the traditional term, but in modern parlance is more commonly used by upper-class Englishmen to describe troublemakers, ne'er-do-wells or street punks. I don't think I've heard that word used in like 20 years, frankly!
@@FinalGamerJames Thank you for the reply and clarification! That description checks out for Cosmo's henchmen on both fronts. Hope that the return of that word within this game has been a delight for you.
Seeing this gave me massive deja vu, I'm sure I've played this at a demo booth or something as a kid. I had totally forgotten about this until I saw the video :0
I remember seeing ads for this game in gaming magazines back in the day, usually right next to another ad for a that game where you play as a weasel(?) handcuffed to an immortal rabbit? Whiplash I think it was?
Indeed, that's Whiplash. Some years ago a game with a similar mechanic came out named Hell Pie. It seemed to be a solid game but be warned, that one can get quite gross and edgy.
You gotta check out Wreckless: The Yakuza Missions. Really silly driving game playing as some sort of cops, in just ridiculous missions. Its been years since I played it but I remember getting it for the cover knowing nothing about it and enjoyed it a lot.
I do miss the days of all the mascot platformers coming out. Mario, Banjo, Voodoo Vince and the like, much easier to doodle in your notebook than someone like Nathan Drake
5:50 Is there another well known Henry Rollins that's not the rock star? The only video game character Henry Rollins ever played was himself in def jam.
Can't think of anything to say besides "this game does actually look surprisingly good!" which adds nothing, so I'll just comment bafflegab for the algorithm.
No, wait, given which channel I'm on, Simpsons quotes are always appropriate. "Are they talking about the bordello?" "No, the burlesque house. So keep your mouth shut!"
Aside from my definition of Roustabout, what i believe happens in burlesque performances is... well, it could be defined as adult entertainment. Not outright nudity, but stripping, pole dancing, erotic songs and music and performances, with the aim perhaps more so to provoke and be ludic than to be straight-up titillating. May accompany and/or be part of cabaret. Hope that this description makes sense and that that's close to the truth.
18:44 The game you're thinking of is "South of Midnight".
Yeah. It got announced I think last year (2023) as a in development game so probably won't be till 26/27
If you're looking for voodoo icons you can't forget Papa Shango.
Of course!!!
Where's he from? I only know the name Shango as an African (i believe specifically Yoruba, if i'm not mistaken) storm god with a double-sided axe for a symbol.
@@jurtheorc8117 It was an early WWF gimmick for the Godfather.
@@martincann5052 Thanks for explaining!
...😮 cheers for dredging that up ! Too true, Shango is a terrifying presence 🤘

This, Whacked!, and Blinx: Time Sweeper were somehow the only games I remember a relative having for the original X-Box
Back when XBox was trying to compete in the family market rather than photorealistic graphics being their primary selling point.
The latter was the selling point for Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball🤣

Didnt knew that it got a remaster. This and Stubbs The Zombie are my top list of games I going to play on PC.
The warped dream like architecture and dark but funny style of the art is giving me big Medievil vibes.
The voice of Vince sounds like it's trying to go for a Bruce Cambell impression.
To me he sounds more like John Mulaney
@@StatueBreaker I don't think he was a thing when this came out.

Voodoo Vince is still one of my favourite Hidden Gems from the OG Xbox.
18:00 the game is South of Midnight and it was at a Microsoft show last year.

Still loving the impeccable Simpson's references, then a teeny clip. Love your editor 💚💚💚💚💚💚
I have never played this game but I run a New Orleans inspired D&D campaign and use a LOT of music from this game.

Kudos to the blue skeleton for not making a “Voodoo Child” reference…
When Matt makes a likely Justin Wilson reference and likely nobody watching knows who that was, lol.
I knew him when I looked him up just now, but I would not have known his real name other than that, "I Gaur-on-tee" tv chef
@@Endocrom I am old enough to have seen him on TV as a kid. Guy made some good food.

I remember this hame but not having something to play it on made it hard to even try. Wanted to play it, as one of my best friends name is Vince.
I can’t believe that boss died in a freak gasoline fight accident
Play "South of Midnight"

Need more of this, very funny
Forgot about Voodoo Vince, we need more problem-solving platformers!
This is Thunder McQueen's favorite game.
Life has many doors, roustabout.
the voice of Vince reminds me of John Mulaney
10:40 Matt McMuscles is a detractor, dood **snort**

roustabout is an old timey name for an oil worker.
Does this game remind anyone else of psychonauts? I don't know something about it just gives me a real double fine/Tim Schafer vibe.
Doctor voodoo from marvel is a good example
must like for the wrestling reference (VKM).
This game is cool. But yeah Vince sounds like an out-of-work sitcom star.
