      Pete Townshend also said in an interview back in the early 70s that Blackmore essentially invented heavy metal - that while some folks attribute that creation to his own Who and to perhaps the Kinks, Blackmore was doing that stuff before any of them.

      But Hendrix did very much influence Ritchie's use of the whammy bar (and Strat). Black Night (BBC 1970 sessions) on UA-cam shows how he took whammy technique to another level I think - .

    I read an interview with Nick Simper where Simper said the first time he saw Blackmore was in 1961 in the 2 i’s coffee bar. Blackmore was only 16 and was already using feedback as part of his sound. This was 5 years before Hendrix came on the scene !

    • @Gk2003m
      @Gk2003m Рік тому +4

      Yep. The stories come from various places/people. Nick Simper, Brian May, Don Airey, others. Look up the writings of drum legend Carlo Little, who talks of how all the musicians used to come watch a 15 year old Blackmore bring down the house.

      Jimi Hendrix was already a big name before he went to London to make his own band. He played with all the real big names of the time on stage. Some even wanted to reject him, 'cause he looked too young, but the they heard him play...

    Prepare to be intrigued: To know what he means listen to The Outlaws Keep a Knockin and Shake w Me from ‘64. RB was indeed a phenom pre Hendrix and get this - Hendrix heard Shake w Me and told Jeff Beck he liked it. There is a possibility that RB has some (small) influence on Hendrix. Both had bombastic styles, and RB ended up w JH influence of course.

    No, Ritchie was not famous before Hendrix..! Hendrix was performing very successfully in England and then returned to the US in 1967 where he gained more fame when played Wild Thing at the Monterey Fest. Jon Lord and Ritchie formed Deep Purple in 1968. Ritchie said in interviews that they were heavily influenced by Hendrix. Sir Brian May, you stand corrected..!

    • @marknieuweboer8099
      @marknieuweboer8099 9 місяців тому +2

      Brian May actually doesn't say that Blackmore was famous before Hendrix, only that he already was a legend (among who?) when Deep Purple released its debut album. That's dubious too.
      Brian May also says that Blackmore already played his guitar in a wild manner before Hendrix. There are no albums registrating that, but it could be true. That should be during his time with Screaming Lord Sutch, who was famous for his stage antics.
