You are a gem! I've only recently happened across your channel and subscribed. I had been trying to watch Lesko for a year or more. Unfortunately, I would get a headache a few minutes in and end up just leaving. You've said more in a few minutes than he does in an hour. I don't mean to discredit or sound mean, but truth is truth. Thank you for the time you put in to get this info to us.
We wish there was a good website for affordable electrician, plumber, roofer, handy man/woman that does good work correctly and shows up and finishes in a timely manner that doesn't drag it on for months.- John's wife
Okay these have already been looked into MatthewLesko promotes this all the time. There are no programs of this type in our area. Housing repairs are real issue that needs to be addressed. And we mean paint roof electrical and all sorts of repairs. Some of the programs we did contact and they were helping people with fires and we never did get a completion for that. Also the USDA we looked into that That's very invasive they want to be on your insurance and you have to be in your property for 3 years and you do have to pay it back. They do put a lien on the property. That's nothing we want We don't want to have to give out all our information as well as have them basically own our house! All these programs are for usually the East Coast never out this way in the West Coast. These grant and all do not ever go and are just wind in the air
@@menorah7USDA does have grants for safety issue home repairs, but you have to be age 62 or older and very low income for your area, based on how many in household. They have a chart broken down into states, counties, cities. Depending on where you live, the income allowed is actually fairly generous. $10k one time grant for safety issues like bathroom accessibility/working, heating, floors, roofs. These grants don't require usda to be a lien holder. They do have generous loans for home repairs, the terms are long and interest very low. They should be on the deed as a lien holder as it's a LOAN. There's no government agency that's going to hand you free money without some proof you qualify for a grant and the loans are doable for people with no credit, bad credit, lower income.
I ran a plumbing business for a few years. Here's why trades workers are so expensive. License cost, business expenses ie rent utilities, workman's comp insurance, liability insurance, vehicle insurance, then you have to match the workers taxes, you have to pay municipality license fees state operator fees, gas in the vehicle's and oil changes. It goes on and on until you can't really make a living unless you have a large company that is staying busy. I hope this gives you some insight as to why plumbers, electricians, and heating and air conditioner is so expensive.
@@menorah7 There are a few grants out there from Feds, but they have qualifiers such as age 62+ and very low income. Maximum income number can be found on program websites and is by state, then county/city. The above grant is lifetime $10k max and is only for making home safe, possibly including weatherization. There is no lien. Loans have very good terms like no to low interest and 33 year terms, with mediocre credit. Can't get that at a bank. Anyone that loans money absolutely should place a lien on property. USDA has always been primarily for farmers and people in rural areas. Try HUD for suburban and urban resources. Try to find community resources to help with home repairs, some only require sweat equity. There are other programs for disabled people that can help with home repairs to make it safe and accessible if you qualify. People used to move to find work or better paying jobs, now they want government to pay them to stay in areas where work has dried up. The internet and covid greatly expanded online job opportunities which is a positive imo. Finally, I'm sorry you're struggling, but most things in life aren't free and it shouldn't be up to government and taxpayers to foot the bill.
I looked got the V.A. for a wheelchair ramp, they wouldn't do a ramp cause they said it was too short. So I had NO ramp and didn't know where to turn. I had to take my 98 year old father to a medical appointment, having to go down the inside porch step about an 7-8" in height. He fell out of the wheelchair. THIS is what happens when veterans are turned down. I'm NOT happy w/ the V.A. and their limited services. Wouldn't recommend them. 😡😡😠😠😠👿
thanks for going through theses processes....step by step. I am a older person so I really need help in going through the inner workings. I am going to stick with you in the future. Thanks too for the advise when running into a road block while searching.
Thank you very much. I am going to look up help to replace my two decks wood is rotten, and sat in the porch chair it went through the porch step and broke in half. Need porch to get into home wood weak lifting up, and nails rusted. I do not understand exactly how these grants work where you do not need to pay for them, but you are also not allowed to work a few years or have to pay back the grant. Confusing we are seniors on social security, and can't get part-time food work extra food money? Would have to pay back a grant if we work any job during two or three year period.? W.V. Area
I think local services would serve you better than a grant for what you listed. You can call the phone number 211 to get connected to those agencies. Or you can search findhelp.org, which I showed how to use in this video, ua-cam.com/video/Vf8NDBQRKwE/v-deo.html
Hello, I love the information you provided. Unfortunately the website switched over to USA.Gov and is very different I havent even used the old website, but I still like the old one better lol. Can you talk about the new USA.Gov please.
How do you discern between one’s that are low cost, just outright assistance/free, and what is actually a loan or signing away rights to the home as another commenter said on your other video? Thanks Tiffany! -Lexi
Great question! And wasn't that a sad situation the commenter had? I remember that very well. It was my aim in this video to list resources that are legitimate. But of course, the one seeking the support needs to read all details carefully and understand what they're responsible for. For example, I currently work for a nonprofit that provides free and low-cost services, so long as those who sign up follow our requirements of attendance and participation (which we try to support best as we can).
Thank you for your prompt response! What is the website for the company you work for? Also, any resources for churches? Our church in FL is in need of a new roof and other building repairs post-hurricane, but unfortunately so many non-profit grants exclude religious institutions which is ironic to me.

What does one do in the State of California when a grantee has embezzled the Department of Energy Weatherization Program? I have reported to the OIG and the Grantor which refused to intervene

I don't have any other suggestions than your actions, at least at this time. I wish I did.

I am a Senior Citizen who disabled on a fixed income. My wife and I are looking for a grant to help pay off bills and help buy our first new washer & dryer. The amount we need is $25,000. We do not have a 501c3. What types of grants are available for our needs?
I have another video on a free searchable website, that connects you to all kinds of local assistance, without needing to write a grant. It's at ua-cam.com/video/Vf8NDBQRKwE/v-deo.html
The biggest problem with grants is that almost NONE of them go to private individuals. The money goes to well established nonprofits with guaranteed tax breaks and other benefits for donors. I'm sure there are thousands of people in the same position but don't have the basic skills to survive.
Yes, most individuals receive services and benefits that are paid for by grants to nonprofits or from govt agencies. I spend time in each video regarding individual support making that differentiation. Have you reached out to agencies for support? You can call 211, or use findhelp.org to get a list of services in your zip code, and there are lots of large and small nonprofits founded by veterans, for veterans. These help systems really do rely on a computer. Or searching on a cell phone. Do you have a family member, friend, or neighbor who could help? Or, there is also a service by phone call. You only dial 3 numbers, 211. The operator is supposed to provide ways for you to get connected to help.

I give up…
I don't understand why you guys can charge money for delivery as it's supposed to be a grant.
I’m a little skeptical about a “delivery fee”. I have a recent video on avoiding grant scams; does this help?

learn to do as many repairs yourself...
I like DIY myself, though in my current house, people who made their own fixes 20 years ago are causing me to spend money on better repairs now. 🙄
