Atlantic is, for me, one of their most compositionally perfect songs. The lyrics, the structure, the melodies - it's everything. This one also lends a ton of background to Vessel's personal lore (or at least what we've been able to discern from lyrics), and it's heartbreaking.
This song breaks me every time. I’ve been where he has been. I have never been able to out how I feel so often in words… this song says it exactly. ❤❤❤

"Merry in the morning, earn your bitter fodder, it's easier to try not to eat" 😢 and "they talk me through the damage, consequence, and how it's a pain they know they don't understand" 😩 this song is heartbreaking but so beautiful 🥺 I believe this song is about survivor's guilt or a failed s*icide attempt 😔
I’m pretty sure it’s the latter at least that’s what it seems like based off the lyrics

It's categorically about a suicide attempt. I used to volunteer with Samaritans in the UK, and we were trained to acknowledge that we "don't understand" the position of a suicide attempt survivor's mindset. It's basically rule number one.
Atlantic is another i had to sit down and cry it out many times.

One of my favorite songs of theirs especially lyrically. As a drummer I never cared too much for lyrics or even vocals but Vessel has completely changed that for me.
I think the songs about guilt and someone waking up in the hospital after killing someone, likely an accident like a car accident but them feeling so guilty they'd almost rather die than live with that guilt.
It's blue light over murder for me
He's saying his life is over, he deserves the blue light of the ocean as his body is sunk with the other bodies instead of being known for what he feels he caused.
They walk me through the damage,
consequence and how it's a pain they know they don't understand
He's waking up in the hospital bed and his family, the police or someone explains to him what happened.
Fill me like Atlantic bandage up these trenches
Anything to get me to sleep
He just wants them to bandage him up, fill him up with painkillers, whatever they have to do so he can just go to sleep and be left alone.
Incredible lyricist, he's so good and painting pictures with words. A true visionary in many ways that Vessel. Love to see the ST reactions let's go!!

Oh man do yourself and ourselves a favor and start at the very beginning. Start with Thread the Needle on the One EP and the Fields of Elation and my personal favorite When the Bough Breaks then The Way You Were single then go to the EP Two then the Jaws single and do Sundowning album, Then This Place Will Become Your Tomb album then all the way through the Take Me Back to Eden album. It's so spiritual and completely heartbreaking but when I came out on the other side I had healed things I didn't even know I needed to. Even if you don't video everything listen to it on your own because it's something you will never forget. I promise!! Cry, sob, let it out, heal. And if you do this for yourself thank me later. 😁 Especially since you said you can relate. I promise it's worth it.
