  • (4-30-2015) This is an amazing building! Enjoy a tour of this historic property as we look around some of the upper floors that were abandoned at the time of this shooting. Sadly as of 2017 this building is no longer open to the public. I believe it is undergoing an extensive renovation. At the time of this visit, there was alot of vacant space in this building.

    Beautiful old building, DD!
    Thanks for getting out of the elevator and exploring the rest of the building, too!
    I love how the music turned ominous when you entered that mechanical area, lol.

    I worked in that building for 10 years or so - lots of stories. You guys are very lucky you didn't get stuck in the elevator. They were always broken for the last few years we were there.

    Fantastic!! I don't know how you got into the upper floors and balconies of this building. I've lived in Augusta for 24 years and no one here seems to know ANYTHING about the top floors of this building. I found out that I. M. Pei, designed the top penthouse on the Lamar Building which was completed in 1976. He died in May, 2019. He was the architect for the John F. Kennedy Library, Boston
    ; National Gallery of Art East Building; and the famous glass Louvre Pyramid in Paris, among many other beautiful buildings around the world. How did Augusta ever score such a great architectural talent for the Lamar Building!?!? Also, the absolutely beautiful stone and masonry work at toward the top of the building is essentially wasted at this time since no one can see it from street level and no one is allowed to go to the upper floors and out onto the upper balconies. It's really a shame, and a waste, that the building has allowed to fall into such incredible disrepair. I bank at the adjacent SunTrust building, and noticed the other day that there's a huge area of the glass penthouse (at the top / back of the building) that looks like it was broken out and covered up with lots of plywood. Super ugly. It's also a crying shame that the outside glass elevator is no longer functional. So sad. Thank you so very much for coming to Augusta, GA and to show us a UA-cam video of the inside of the Lamar Building. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

      exploring the building now is a whole different story, back door stays wide open so anyone comes in, powers shut off, water off, spray paint and concrete everywhere but people are supposed to be renovating, but still an amazing building, wish i would’ve checked out the basement

    Lots of office buildings have shower facilities. Bathtubs are rare, but as a software developer, but I've worked in many office buildings that had at at least one bathroom with a shower. It's usually in the basement where the maintenance workers hang out, but they've been in the main office area as well.
    I've even used these showers a few times. After commuting to work on the bus and subway on a sweltering August morning, I'll arrive at work a few minutes early with a change of clothes, and take a shower when I arrive. I imagine that people who bicycle to work love having a shower available, too.

    What an awesome historic building! Have you tried contacting them recently during the renovation to see if they are removing the crank panel from the scenic elevator? Perhaps you could get that and preserve the beautiful piece of history it is. There's also those nice Touch Sensitive Lexan panels that will almost definitely be ripped out.
    Interesting call cancel when the elevator hits the bottom floor. It's a very good feature for theis elevator since old Otis relay controllers are notorious for placing random calls. The Touch Sensitive ones I rode had plenty of controller glitches, placing random calls, and at one point not moving or letting us (I was with upanddownadventures) out!

      From what I could tell, no. However, from the parking lot across the street, we could see blinds in the windows blowing around, indicating either the window was broken or left open. I imagine the building is in pretty bad shape, and probably the reason why the building is shuttered.

    It is actually a really shame that the senic elevator doesn’t work anymore because it does look like a regular old automatic elevator but it actually also looks like a signal control system because the call buttons are right beside the doors and that’s not something you see all the time on new systems but I’m more sure that it was a standard automatic system

      It's cause blind people couldn't feel the Braille without accidentally pushing the button

    • @DieselDucy
      @DieselDucy  7 років тому +1

      I will try. Anyway touch buttons can be activated by heat as well which makes them a fire issue.

    • @WestCoastElevators
      @WestCoastElevators 7 років тому +2

      Touch buttons have multiple issues. There is no way for a blind person to know if they have pressed a button, they could accidentally get pressed by a blind person trying to read the braille plates for which button is for which floor, older systems like this which use vacuum tubes can be a fire hazard, they have a tendency to place random calls, and firefighters need physical buttons for use in fire mode as touch buttons are much less reliable.

    It's so sad to see such a cool, amazing, historic building in such poor condition. I'm sure when they renovate it, it will be nice again, but those poor Touch Sensitives probably have no chance of surviving the renovation. :( Knowing they were modded in the 60s and that they used to be manual Otises, the mod is great, it's vintage and tasteful!!!! But they will sadly probably get modded again. But this is a pretty cool building, but in poor condition. Also, too bad the glass elevator broke too, I hope they fix it, even if it means it gets modded. And that fridge was NASTY!!!!!
