Met Ritchie in a bar after a rainbow concert in Philly in the early 80s!! Contrary to the BS news media, he was a cool nice dude and signed the first Rainbow album for me which I still have!!! Met Roger Glover too and he was a really nice person and down to earth cool dude!!
He's cool if you don't approach him like a fan. I lived not far from him on Long Island, he frequents a bar I used to hang out at (worked there for a time too.) He's not the nicest person, but he's not the mean prick people make him out to be.
He’s nice to people as long as they are not singers.

They seemed like cool witty dudes with witty dry humor having fun making goundbreaking experimental music and being screwballs on stage. I heard Richie was quite a dick, but I dig his humor, especially beating the hell out of those pricy Gibsons. Jon Lord seemed cool and mellow. RIP. We need more bands like Deep Purple around.
Seems during their mid-80's reunion-tour they were alternately drunk on stage . seriously drunk . and now ? they are still : musicians , professionals , and ALIVE . and still drunk.....😂

Yes, I would agree with that. Edinburgh Playhouse ( 1987 !?) Whole band were just not right. I left feeling very disappointed.

@@CB-xr1eg I think that part was fake tantrum also, for show. If you look carefully, he's not hitting the camera that hard. I think he's holding back a little. He breaks the lens hood, but I think that's the majority of the damage. I don't think he planned it before the show, but I also don't think he's trying to destroy the camera in a rage.
He did manage to break his guitar neck on it, though, so I don't know. Maybe it was already weakened? That was the guitar he was planning on throwing in the air and destroying, I think.
I'll have to watch it again. It never gets old. 😄
Without Ritchie DP is just a tribute band
I respectfully disagree. The real issue is that some people in this band are just no longer their old selves, and some out of it as well, including Ritchie.
No doubt with out Blackmore some of the Magic is gone! & Now that Jon Lord ✝️ 🙏 has Passed on. DP is not the same? But as long as Ian Paice is still Their playing 🥁 The ❤️ Sound & Soul of DP Lives & carries On!

No - when I say some people are not their old selves I'm talking about the two Ians. But then, drummers and singers are quite usually the least ageproof ones.

I am a DP and Steve Morse fan alike but combined and sans Ritchie just wasn’t the same. There’s a lot of good things you can say about the more recent Purple but I understand why their ardent, most long-term fans just aren’t into it. I’m still a huge Tommy Bolin fan to this day as well. Although Morse stepped down to be with his wife while she was dealing with serious health issues, his role in the band was critical. Not only did he fill in the shoes of one of the finest players in music history (not to mention being a master axeman in his own right) but he became the band’s chief motivator. What I personally enjoy is that they brought so much of the old stuff that hadn’t seen the light of day on stage in 40 years, in some cases. That is also what I enjoyed about King Crimson before their final US tour and the current incarnation of Yes
