- Long term review on the iPhone 14 Pro Max. It's been a solid phone of course not perfect but hopefully if you're planning to pick one up in the near future this will give you an outlook of how it holds up.

Just upgraded from 12 Pro Max to 14 Pro Max. I would say it's a major upgrade, so many features and this phone is much solid for daily usage.
The point of the battery controversy is that the battery degradation was insane even with normal use. For me, after a year of using both the 12 Pro Max and 13 Pro Max, they were at 99%. Right now after a little less than a year for my 14 Pro, it’s at 92%. Same charging habits. I actually unplug at 80% and never let my battery dip below 30% and I even use the 5W charger most of the time to keep the phone cool. It’s not the way people are using their phones this year. Something is seriously wrong with the batteries on a lot of people’s 14 Pro’s
It’s quite posssible!
Especially when there are tons of reports from people who bought it a bit later, stating that their battery health is fine. It is very likely a manufacturing issue somehow.
For what it’s worth, I bought the iPhone 14 Pro at launch, due to satellite connectivity, and my wife bought hers a couple of months later. Her battery health is much better than mine, and a far higher percentage than what a couple of months of no use “should be“.
I have an iPhone 14, mine is still at 99
@@akhilalexgliar 😂
@@jesmond5562 want a screenshot?
The fact that battery degradation is widespread with the 14 Pro series compared to the previous models is a clear indicator that it’s an issue with Apple, but go on and blame the users. Just because it didn’t happen to your phone doesn’t negate the fact that it’s happening. My phone is 90% and my partners is 97% both bought on the same day with similar charging usage/charging habits. What happens if Apple acknowledges this and offers a battery replacement to all those affected, will you put out a video saying you apologize for blaming the users and assuming that we don’t know how to properly charge an iPhone.
Hell if I spend $1100+ on a phone I would hope it would last 1 year....
Lol
😂
You should hope it lasts atleast 2 years well unless you can afford to spend 1100+ every year..
i have the iphone 11pro. it better last 3+ years lol
I use a 300$ dollar phone for atleast 4 years lol
I had a 13 Pro Max since launch day and I now have a 14 Pro Max since launch day. At this point the 13 was at around 98-99% battery life and the 14 is at 92%. This is with basically the same usage, charging habits and with similar number of battery cycles. Even with the same MagSafe chargers…

I’ve had the smaller 14 Pro since mid December, while their have been a few minor glitches most of them seem to have cleared up after updates. Overall it’s been a good experience with this phone, battery health still holding at 100 percent. Like someone else mentioned I’m wondering if the premature battery degradation is from those first batches released in September, maybe those batteries were not up to Apples usual standards.
There is a shortcut that shows your actual battery percentage. Mine is still 100% but the actual is 95%. I believe when 15 pro release and ios 17 older models will show the real battery health
For the battery capacity, I’m not sure where you’re from but people think it has something to do with the record breaking heat this summer. A hotter environment while you’re using your phone for months will drastically impact the battery life. Luckily for me it’s been winter for me, but summer is coming and it’s gonna get hot (Australian hot) 😳
I'm currently on an iPhone 13 Pro. I'll be upgrading to the iPhone 15 Pro Max for sure! The battery on my current iPhone is at 87% battery health.
iOS 16 in iPhone 14 is buggy, however the same iOS in iPhone 13 is pretty stable and reliable, using it for last 1 year on iPhone 13, did not face any problem.
I saw on your pictures I live very close to you around Yonge & Eglinton… I watch you on youtube for many years and I moved last year from Brazil. Your content is always relevant to me, thanks!!
Well hello neighbour! Welcome to Canada = ) Where in Brazil did you move from?
@@MatthewMoniz Thank you Matthew, I appreciate it! My hometown is called Novo Hamburgo, from the southern region of Brazil. My wife and I are loving the neighbourhood… se you around 🙂
Just got one today and had the 7 before this. Man this is one hell of an upgrade. I’m loving this thing
I’m keeping my 13 pro max for 2 more years. That dynamic island is a gimmick and the battery life is ridiculous on the 14.
iPhone 12 was my favorite camera, iOS 15 had the best battery life, and all the last 3 series have had really good screen durability. My only issues with the 14PM seem to be software driven.
Widgets are definitely buggy in ios
Is it a bad idea to downgrade from 13 pro max to 11 pro max because of the camera
We used leas demanding apps also back then. Also we may have evolves to use our phones more often than before.... just UA-cam takes so much time these days
That phone stays in my mind rent free. I have the 13 pro max and it’s really nice! It’s the most premium phone I’ve ever had and it’s my second flagship phone. But I miss the camera of the 11 and the 12
@@suprxmefire9497 yep but only because it may only have a year or two of iOS updates left.
I have the 13PM and it baffles me how iOS users always shy away from talking about how buggy this software is at times. It also frustrates me how Apple never seems to fix them. It's little things here and there, like swiping through home screens becoming super laggy out of the blue, the blurred out effect of the wallpaper stopping to work all of a sudden only to work again by itself at some later point, apps getting removed from memory and restarting on a software that is supposedly good at keeping apps running in the background and so on and so fourth... it just hasnt been a clean and smooth software experience for me
I talked about it. Ios16 has been the most glitchy for me
@@MatthewMoniz yes I know! I’m just reiterating :)
Just dont update unless official release
I make receive a call ☎️ soon as I done the phone refuses to end the call, screen freezes iOS is very very buggy
I recently just upgraded to the iPhone 14 Pro Max. I originally had the iPhone 12 Pro and before I upgraded I checked my battery health and it was sitting at 89%. That’s really good for how old the phone was. And that’s the only one I ever use.
i agree with you on the weird bugs. been using 14pm for almost 9 months now. the battery health is at 90%, which is quite shocking for me.
Sooo... I am thinking of buying 14 plus. How is the battery now? Any advice?😅
Re: battery. I’m currently at 88% on a 14PM. Only wirelessly charge via MagSafe. It does get plugged in when I’m running CarPlay. However, my 13PM was at 98% when I handed it off to my brother in law last year, using the same exact charging habits (wireless at hone, plug in only for CarPlay). Not too sure if it’s because of a change in climate (moved from Colorado to Arizona) but this battery is not it this year. Hoping for better performance from the 15PM this year.
Heat could have a big impact on it
@@MatthewMonizstill doesn’t justify weak battery performance. Especially if people are using and charging the same as last years models.
You fell into the trap.
They made the battery degraded faster this year so you can buy the newer iPhone.
I purchased a 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max at launch, miraculously my 14 Pro max just dropped to 99 % after Ios 17 developer beta 6 and my 14 Pro still at 100% , I don’t use cases on my devices, I turn off 5G since day one because LTE still fast for me , no fast charging at all, I charge both devices overnight using 5 watt brick
Staying with my iPhone pro 12, serves me pretty well, plan on keeping it a few more years
I completelyyyyy agree with you on the pixel camera.. I’m about to sell my pixel 7 pro as I got the iPhone 14 pm and if there was 1 thing I could swap between them, it would be the camera… I sooo miss the amazing AI capabilities of the pixel camera… Like the pictures were next level… But everything else specially the network, I like my iPhone… Pixel would drop network in a minute of being on call… Main reason I’m selling it.. Still tempted to give it another shot and get it replaced again, but too much of a hassle..
im surprised, probably another bug, but my 14 pro max battery health is still at 100% despite heavy use every day. weird
I regretted “upgrading” from 13 Pro to 14 Pro. Worse cameras unless I used ProRaw (inefficient), worse battery life, it would randomly heat up, and always-on display bugged out sometimes. I had my 13 Pro for about a year, couldn’t stand using 14 Pro for more than 6 months, I ended up selling it. Now I’m using a temporary Android phone (Pixel phone).
Great video. I am going to go with the 15 pro max this time. I miss the big screen and battery life since having the 13 pro. I thought you said you were going to stick with the pro max size since you always end going to it at some point? A little off topic but where is your Apple Watch ultra band from its looks similar to the trail loop band.
I’ve loved the 14 Pro Max since I got it at the beginning of this year and as of now I’m not planning on upgrading to the 15
What colour
What kind of wireless charger do you use on a daily basis to get that kind of results? and do you use apple original cable? and do anker MFI cables equally as good?
My 14 pro 9 month 2 week and battery health 98%...I don't know how some people still got 100% battery health after a year lol
...thanks for the reassurance that i made the right call in switching to the 14 Pro Max and not the 15 after my 2nd BB Priv died....................
Best video formats 4k30 or 60 with hdr off. HDR just looks weird when uploaded to social media and UA-cam
I swapped out my 14 plus for the 14 pro max within the 30 days bc they are offering a new pro max on us deal. I could never have gone back to a regular size phone. And I wanted the dynamic island badly and the 48mp
I love how serious you have to be in these videos these days Matthew but please for the old timers like me. Do some outdoor comedy tech videos again ? Lol. You got great views from those back in the day & they were very funny. Anyway, big love, kindest regards, as ALWAYS, Richard U.K
I have experienced many random crashes in any app or even on the home screen too, Maybe like 30 times till now since installing iOS 16.
Bruh
My dad is the most light phone user I've known. His average screen time for a day is less than 2 hours. Even lower than that sometimes. His 14 Pro's Battery Health is at 89%. HE ONLY GOT THE PHONE 6 MONTHS BACK. He's not even an over-night charging person. He charges his phone when he's in his office.
I have a lot of friends facing similar issues. This is not an individual issue caused by dumbo charging.
Picked one up for a nice discount and just keeping it unopened until the 15 presentation to see if they can sway me, but most likely not due to price. Going from a regular 12.
The only thing I wish iPhones had is a better PWM, like Xiaomi, which is superior in terms of that aspect.
I bought the 14 pro max and you were some of the UA-camrs that convenced me lol
Bought mine in march. A really solid phone. No complaints. I’m very happy with it. Great display, great battery life, great performance, great cameras, almost a perfect phone for my needs.
Same! Still 100

Does ur twitter do that wierd refresh thing?
Gonna keep my 13 pro, not a fan of esim and like this guy I use a pixel as well
Do you think it’ll be worth trading in the iPhone 14 pro max for the 15 pro max?
most definitely not
what apple really needs to do is, 1) add individual volume sliders for ringtones and notification sound alerts , 2) then add another volume slider for the alarm clock . 3) Apple really needs to over haul the DND function, and the focus function, cause do you really need 2 functions that can do the same job. Because of this it does cause issues with the ios software for not knowing what to do with notifications. eg/ when both these are disable, you can get a notification pop up with no sound alert, due to ios not know what to do because it does not know what to prioritize to use DND or Focus.. 3) Add a battery that last longer then a day no one really cares if the iphone going to be a little thicker or taller this is proven with screen size getting larger and ppl are still buying them. 4) The dynamic island, just get rid of the notch apple already acknowledge its a eye sore , and trying to hide it with dynamic island which really is a useless function that cant really do anything great.
Startee using my 14 pro on january and thus week my battery health is ar 91%. Its really bad 😢
After one year on iPhone 13 pro, my battery health was 92%. My 14 Pro is still at 100%. Still, the 13 Pro had better battery life.
How?
I do a thing called a “spouse purchase”. I buy a new iPhone right when it comes out for myself. I give her my old one. So my wife is always 2 gens behind and I still get a new phone every year but she also gets a “new” phone and isn’t the wiser
Legend
I've also been using the 14 pro max since launch, and the one thing that has bugged me, and really it's just this one thing since everything else has been outstanding -- it's the screen dimming issue when using the phone in an even semi-warm location. And then after it dims, the phone often throttles down to 60hz, which is jarring and frustrating.
I have the same issue the temperature in my country is 46 celsius, which is 114 degrees fahrenheit during the afternoon. I can't even read an entire message without the screen dimming when I am working at a construction site.
@@baderkaki-kk3ovI would guess that if there was a case that can get all the heat out on the phone, it wouldn't help all that much with your temps outside
My iPhone 12 was at 90% after 1 year. Maybe because it has smaller battery capacity than the pro max variants.
Unrelated but which is the best Lenovo Legion laptop to get for a good price:performance and not too pricey??
2:16 I don’t think dynamic island is a feature. It’s basically the notch, volume buttons, or mute switch: just a basic part of the hardware. iOS 17 doesn’t even add anything to it, so I still think it goes away this year or next.
Keep dreaming 😂😂
Hey Matt how are you? love your videos and your information. I would like to know where i can find that wallpaper, please bro. thank you
I’m at 90% but I got my phone on release day unfortunately and the battery didn’t last very long out of the gate, but because of the massive problems and a lot of phones had to be replaced, I was told in a month they would switch it out with a new one, Apple then REFUSED to switch out my phone and if I wanted a new battery I WOULD HAVE TO PAY $100 for a new one but other than this I honestly love my phone
Remark about the max. battery capacity: My iPhone 8 Plus (that will "retire" this year) is still used daily and has the max. capacity of 85%. That's all about using and charging it properly...
💯 I've had mine since Nov. 2022 and my battery is still 100% (175 charging cycles). It may be a faulty batch of batteries that are hitting the P's, not PM's. In any case, I don't know what all the complaints are about. The phone has been absolutely solid. Coming from the Note20U, I simply love this thing, how it works seamlessly with my Watch (S8) and laptop (M1 Pro). Happy camper.
I’m in the same boat as you, had mine since October and still 100% on my 14 PM. Works great with my M2 MacBook Air.
Are you charged using an apple cable/adaptor?
Are you charging 100% or 80%?
Are you draining your battery to 0 every time?

I just got my 14 Pro Max in Space black from my Graphite 13 Pro Max, and mostly cause my girl had smashed her 11 Pro Max during her pregnancy last year and her front camera was completely blurred and looked like it had steam over it when on FaceTime or photos and her back glass was so demolished her case had tiny glass partials all over it. So I handed down my 13 Pro Max to her since it was in absolutely 100% flawless condition, and got a 14 Pro Max. We initially were gonna both get 15 Pro Max’s but after seeing how easily the new modular glass breaks neither of us wanted it especially her since her history with phones isn’t the best… 🤣 but yea not only that but the over heating issue, the discoloration of the titanium, how easily the titanium scratches, someone even had their battery become a puffed up spicy pillow and it pushed their display out just by charging it not even on its max charging rate, he only used his 20w charger which is what I have as well… plus my carrier gave me an amazing deal on my 14 Pro Max cause it was not only discounted already from its original price, but my plan/ upgrade covered most of the price so it was a no brainer to just get me the 14 Pro Max (which is 98% of what the 15 Pro Max is, but even more durable and strong and not as many issues) and hand her my flawless condition 13 Pro Max that a physical finger has never even touched the actual phones body. Both have AppleCare+ on them, the 13 PM is already fully paid off, my 14 Pro Max is almost already fully paid off not even $100 financed with the deals. Can’t beat it. Especially in this economy. Even to my girl the 13 Pro Max over the 11 Pro max was such an upgrade to her. The display is larger, has 120hz, the cameras are way larger and better sensors, the battery life is way better, the A15 in it is way faster than hers and never skips a beat, has the durable squared design, and she can actually use the 5G access I was already paying for on both our lines with our T-Mobile plan. Best decision I ever made with a tech purchase. Basically paid for itself.
will Apple still sell the 14 Pro (and at a lower price) after the 15 comes out?
don't recall them ever continuing the Pro's.
My 13 pro max has also 0 scratches. Used it since launch. And yeah I have dropped it. The back is completely cracked. Own fault should have more careful. But still 0 scratches on the screen 🤷🏻♂️
Also iOS 16 has 0 problems for me
I have 93% battery health and I charge my phone overnight on a 5w charger once a day, normally so maybe I should switch to a wireless charger on my next phone

By the way, I currently have an iPhone 11 Pro and I have 97% battery health.
Thanks Matt. As nice as the Pro Max iPhones are I can't justify the price, pretty much all I do is text and take pictures of my cats. The base iPhone 14 I bought a few months ago will do the job for a long time (I feel safe saying that since I upgraded from a 6S Plus).

Do you charge your phone to 100%?
When it comes to charging you want to charge your phone all the way up to 80% then you want to discharge the battery so using it to about 20% if you run it all the way dry or fill it up to 100% you were actually wearing down the chemicals on the inside of the battery You’re wearing it out and those people on Twitter are probably doing that leaving it on the charger overnight and in the course of 365 days their battery health went from 100 to those numbers. That’s what I usually tell my friends to charge it to 80 and use it till it’s 20.

i honestly dont know why people get iphone when it has less features than an android flagship for example the Xiaomi 13 Ultra. Xiaomi 13 ultra has a better camera, better screen, fast charging, fast wireless charging, it has reverse wireless charging, it has an IR blaster, it has better customisation. people are just spending money for the brand lmao. The only good thing in iphone i guess is the ecosystem lol, and even then i would say its only useful only for content creators, the other decent thing in iphone is the video mode, its just slightly better in some scenarios lol, people hype up the iphone video camera so much when its just in line with other andriod flagship.
Because it is more reliable, second to none camera, build quality, status.
@@dragospahontu what do you mean by "reliable"? for camera, xiaomi is better. build quality is pretty much even, but the iphone is more durable cause of the stainless steel but it is not comfortable to hold.
@@eihabkhan6362 reliable in the sense of the stability iOS has from update to update. The only clear advantage of Android is the customizability.
Because it works and it’s reliable. Xiaomi is still plagued by poor software experience, it puts all of these “vanity features” to cover the fact that its software is full of bugs, remember hardware will always be cheaper than software, long term the iPhone will last a lot longer than the Xiaomi with its features. I own phones from both OS, I owned a Pixel 6 Pro last year and it was the worst phone I’ve owned to date; that puts a bad taste in people’s mouth who are coming over from iPhones. As of now I own the S23 Ultra (entire ecosystem) and the 14 Pro Max (entire ecosystem), I just switched back to my iPhone after a month of using the S23 Ultra and receiving the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic. Could be release buyers batch. Batteries are a thing they're constantly getting new batches of... They don't just have 10 million batteries sat in a pile waiting to be put into the phone so chances are the battery manufacturer made a dodgy batch (whether known about or not). It sucks but when you're making 100 million devices a year some shit will creep through.
I have had the iPhone Pro Max since the end of 2022. My battery life is 97 percent.

That’s what’s I’m on rn I bought it just like a month before it came out xD
Battery health is only an estimate. It’s not really that accurate. When I had my XR, it dropped to 88% within 9 months. I bought that phone back on September 23rd of 2019. It was at 88% back in July of 2020. It was 86% back in 2022 and dropped to 84% back in August of 2022. As of today, it’s still at 84%! It hasn’t dropped for a year. I drained it heavily because I use my XR as a secondary device. I used it day. My iPhone 13 Pro Max, which is my current phone is currently at 89%. I bought it back on May 30th of 2022, so it’s almost 1 year and 4 months old. The battery health hasn’t dropped since May of 2023. I bet my battery health will still stay at 89% for another year. My mom’s iPhone 12 Pro Max dropped to 91% back in April of 2022 and it’s still at 91% as of today! Again, battery health is only an estimate. The only phone I had problems with battery health was my iPhone 11. It was at 84% after only 160 charge cycles! That phone had battery issues. My iPhone 13 Pro Max and XR does not!
