Jason , I am so glad I can store mine at home , the insurance is covered on my traders policy , with gap insurance approx 10 quid per 1000 value extra to trade prices, I fitted a pedal lock , also a gps tracking system , 80 quid a year subscription, have caravan alarm already installed , ford key immobiliser, have covered up the vin number and I can service it myself as I own my own motor repair business , great video guys to show people the hidden costs of owning a motorhome , well done 👍👍

Habitation check and service? Need to keep on top of any damp or water ingress and ensure all electrical and gas systems are working safely. Vital to do this yearly on newer vans less than 10 years old (and record it with the converter, e.g. Chausson) to maintain the manufacturers water ingress warranty.
Cost of habitation check is between £200-350 usually

Great video, I can confirm after my first year owning a motorhome the £20 a week budget is spot on.

Great video, very informative and it's easy to forget certain aspects with regards to annual checks. The current UK tyre legislation states you must have a minimum of 1.6mm depth of tread all the way around the tyre & across 3/4 of the width of the tyre. Whilst it makes good sense to keep a regular check on any vehicles tyres & change them after 6 years, you can let them go to ten years providing they have no splits or cuts greater than 25mm in length. It's easy to check the date code of the tyre as this will be on the outside side wall of the tyre, usually four digits in length ie: 2719. The first two digits (27) are for week 27 & the last two digits (19) are for the year 2019 so that particular tyre was manufactired at week 27 from tne start of the year 2019! There is no compromise to be had with tyres as these are the items that keep your motorhome / campervan in contact with the road. One should always fit the tyres designed for the vehicle, for campervans & motorhomes always fit the tyres with the letter C after the size ie: 225/75/16C

Thanks for another great vid, everything explained in easy to understand terminology. We need 180 days European cover as we are allowed 90 days in 180 so go twice a year.

Very good useful info! Steering and pedal locks are all well and good if you don't have a Windscreen cover and it wont be seen! A wheel Clamp will be! Warning stickers in windscreen won't be seen! Visible detterents are best obviously! We have window locks and each has a visible sticker! 😀 Doberman with spikey collar tied up outside is good too! 😀 We have a good Tracker but it's not one of the expensive 'Recognised' ones! 😀

  • @DariaCorven
    @DariaCorven 2 роки тому +1

The insurance had gone up this year as well though 300-1k isn't unsual
And a tracker fitted on a coach built last year was 750.... including first year updates.
The caution is having a collection option when it vreaks down. Especially if going abroad as not everywhere is covered under a policy
Having had to Need to picked up recently :/
The is another brilliantly informative and helpful post especially aimed at newbies:)
Oh and don't forget to allow for a reversi g camera if not fitted. Makes a huge difference

Thanks for the video, very useful. Is a habitation check another thing to consider? Are there different types of habitation checks, how often should they be done and how much do they cost?

With respect you forgot to mention a annual Habitation check. But as you rightly say a customer needs to factor in these extras
Also items like water carriers….wast carriers….Hook up cables…..levelling ramps…TV’s if not already fitted…..windscreen covers internal and external. Etc Etc. Thank you for your highly informative video vlogs…..I really enjoy them so much.

I’m very lucky in that respect because when I’m hunting/ camping I spend a few days putting out of their misery usually deer and sometimes wild fowl that some hooray Henry’s have shot but don’t finish them off. I do on almost all occasions get to travel through in my opinion the best scenery that this island has to offer and I also get to meet and greet with the best fellow travelers and in finishing this post I have to say that I did like the information that you and cupboard Kevin gave. 🙏🙏🙏

Some of the extras like an alarm might already be on a used van and, if not, you might get a bit more back when you sell it (or it could make it easier to sell).
I don't count the cost of food as a holiday cost as we eat at home anyway.
Anyway, I must get down to the tyre shop in the morning and negotiate a good deal on some decent quality tyres.

That is a unfair comment………Joker’s can’t sell Motorhome and run a successful business. The fact that Jason has opened up his business for all to see shows his honesty……good all round knowledge….and good advice. A suit and tie does not always sell a Motorhome….If I need to buy one in the future…….Jason Would be my first port of call.
