Rain sure has a way of pulling up those moody, low feelings in most people. Especially if there is a lot of rain on your trips - for me I've been so lucky with the weather up until this point ne day of rain didn't really bother me at all!

Hi Runa, Loved this episode, I always thought Lake Hawea is as beautiful as Lake Wakatipu, so mystical. I loved driving the Wanaka - Cardrona - Queenstown "Crown Range Road" with it's one lane bridges and the steep zig-zag section on the Queenstown side. I had a snow fight with strangers at that high point viewing park, over looking the steep valley, lot of fun. Like you I also explored the Arrowtown shops, especially the gold shop, on a day trip from Queenstown. ! This brought back so many memories for me. Thanks so much for sharing your trip, it's just wonderful Runa. Great Music again. A rainy day just makes the sunny days seem brighter on a bike. 🤩🤩🤩👍🦘🦘

Until some time in the early 90s Haast to Wanaka was a gravel road. Was really fun back then
Absolutely stunning landscapes, it reminds so much of Norway so I can understand that you love it.
I totally agree with you and traveling in rain. Riding in the rain is not the biggest problem but packing up all gear in rain is awful. Taking on and of clothes inside the tent especially the trousers is an real challenge. I slept one night in the back of my car this summer and to it was even a bigger challenge to undress in the back of the car than in the tent.
Arrow Town looked cosy, perfect name for an archer to stop for an ice cream (liquorice ice cream is awesome).

Once again, amazing episode ... What you told about meeting that guy in the petrolstation, who advised against riding your planned route ... Talking with locals can bring sooo much usefull info. When I travel alone, after arriving on my day destination, looking for a place to eat or enjoying a drink, I always choose those small places where mostly only locals go. First, it's awesome to connect with those locals instead of other tourists. They will tell you about daily life, but more important about the really special things typical for that area. Almost every singel time it results in learning about locations or events who are a must see, a must visit. It has led me to places, not described on the traditional (online) travelguides. But it will also inform you about potential or real dangers and places or routes to avoid. This all if there is no language barrier ... handsigning can result in hilarious "conversations". And the rain ... enjoying travelling in such weather ... only after investing in decent good raingear, it's like you mentioned ... soak it up and after (for me) a long time it can be fun. Great that you shared also that part of your travels, we all know it is a part of it all, but shown so rarely.
That is so true! The best information of all sorts comes from the locals - and they sure make better food than the typical chain restaurant or fast food kitchen as well. If you enjoy traveling amongst coasts, lakes and mountains, rain is bound to be a part of your trip sooner or later, sometimes it sucks but when it's only one day here and there one really can't complain! It can be so stunning, after all 😍

Love riding that road from Haast through to Wanaka! Although most times, we’ve done it in the sunshine. Another fantastic short ride, just before you leave Haast, is a quick ride down the coast to Jackson’s bay. That road is stunning.

Thank you, Jonas! I frequently get asked questions about it so thought this was an alright way to do it. That ice cream was delicious, with little chunks of black licorice 😍 It was a nice surprise to discover New Zealanders enjoy this black, salty candy too!

That area is near my back yard, give or take 350kms, and I often ride on my Ducati Diavel V4 down the West Coast and back through either the Lake District or head to Southland to Invercargill where there is an amazing motorcycle museum. Hope you enjoyed the trip. Take care.

I love watching you explore my home country and the roads I have ridden on over the years. I live in Canada these days but used to have a bike stored in NZ and go down every year to ride. Just think how many people are going through strife and struggle and really need to be where you are in this video. You know you have lived in a camping-style tent more than anyone I have ever known. I can see you might get used to the pitter-patter of the rain, but those wind gusts would be hard to adjust to.

Parts of the West Coast are better seen in the wet.
In the dry the waterfalls are far less dramatic and new temporary waterfalls appear on the mountain slopes

We had a trip down south last year & riding through Haast was the wettest I have ever gotten on a bike, uggh 😢
Haha, it's alright if you know you can dry up once you get to where you're going! But packing down AND up your tent in rain with all your gear wet is no fun

Hi, Roy and greetings to England 😁 Thank you! it was a really nice day despite the weather - or perhaps because of the weather! It sure can be stunning sometimes. I love black licorice in general so this ice cream was a 10/10 for me! I have really enjoyed my KLIM gear and it has kept me nice and dry always (except the boots somehow does get a little wet when walking though streams/puddles). I have switched gear now as you might have seen on instagram, to try something new! I think it's hard to go wrong on gear these days, the quality of most of it is great.

Here I am post operation recovering in hospital and your latest vid comes up recommended. It’s a great diversion from the reality I’m in and it’s wonderful therapy in that respect, like the therapy of riding that I hope to do in a couple of months.
